I assumed it wasnt really a big deal, but I'd like to get a second opinion.

I have an older family member who has a hatchback trunked car in central Florida. It rains an out in summer and their trunk has had moisture issues from water getting in. The car sits in an open apt parking lot , with bushes, grass, trees, and near a dumpster and pond/lake (not sure what it’s called)? My family member drives it about once a week. She placed an old tan deflated air mattress on the bottom to protect the cloth material of the trunk and then stored some stuff on it for a year. I was helping her take some stuff out and I noticed yellow stains on the air mattress. It smelled of something, I’m not sure if it’s a urine or musty or old smell.

I don’t know what the yellow is and I’m concerned it could possibly be rodent or other animal urine. I looked around the trunk and back seats and under the area where the spare tire is kept, and thankfully didn’t see any chew marks or dropping or shredding. I took a wet wipe to wipe it off and yellow came off. Ai told me to spill hydrogen peroxide on it to see if it bubbled or fizzed, and in some area of the creases, it did. But not other areas. AI said that means that there is some sort of biological material that could be urine, mold, or something else. They said the only definitive way is to get a 395nn uv light to see what color glows, but gave me conflicting answers if the peroxide would have taken away any uric crystals to make it definitive. It also said I could buy a urine strip and send it to a lab, but we can’t afford that.

I dong care about the air mattress, it will be trashed. The issue is figuring out if this is animal urine, mold, or something else so I can figure out if there’s a bigger issue and remediation needed on the car.

Any advice?

I’ve got all sorts of mold stains, blue hair dye, and strange colored substance coating the floor of my shower- especially so near the corners and drain. No matter how hard I scrub, there’s always stains inside whatever material this is that don’t seem to come out.
Please be patient- I have literally no experience with cleaning outside of vacuuming and scrubbing, so anything helps. I’ve tried bleach, powder, and a handful of mister clean products to no avail.
Does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of these?

I’m not really sure what it is but I’m guessing it’s bacon grease? …….partner used the oven and definitely forgot to put a liner/pan under.

We just bought a house and noticed that the stainless steel range hood chimney has these large vertical streaks/discolorations.

We aren't sure what caused them. It looks like chemical etching from an harsh cleaner?

Has anyone seen something like this before? Is it fixable with a specific polish/cleaner, or has the protective finish been permanently damaged?

Now I don’t mean clutter blind. (I can stand to live in some messy environments but that’s mostly from being homeless so many times)

I’m talking about a smaller thing that consistently seems to happen. I can’t seem to see small messes, like example : people asking me to sweep. I do so and then I’m being asked to do it again.

It’s to the point where I sweep 3 times cause I know I can’t seem to see when it’s actually clean so I’ll just do the job 3 times and hope.

This happens enough to be a pattern and it’s frustrating.

Hi, I’m not actually sure if this even falls under cleaning category but this induction stovetop is roughly around 10 years old and overtime the glass or whatever has just become white or cloudy. Any tips on how I can remove this?

This wooden chair has been in our house for 11 years and it is so hard to clean all the nooks and crannies.

Best mice repellent? I thought this would be as simple as buying one product, turns out everyone has a completely different idea of what actually works.

TLDR; need the best mice repellant (weighing peppermint oil, ultrasonic repellents and tomcat rodent repellent) 

A couple of weeks ago I noticed what looked suspiciously like mouse droppings in the garage, and somehow that sent me down a rabbit hole I wasn't expecting.

I figured there'd be one obvious answer. Buy a repellent, put it down, problem solved.

Apparently not.

The more I read, the more it felt like people weren't even trying to solve the same problem.

Peppermint oil came up constantly. Plenty of people said it helped discourage mice from hanging around certain areas, but just as many mentioned having to keep reapplying it because the smell fades pretty quickly. It seemed more like something you'd maintain than a one time fix.

Then there were the ultrasonic repellents. I wanted these to work because they seemed like the easiest option, but the reviews were all over the place. Some people swore by them, while others said they didn't notice any difference at all after months of use.

Tomcat rodent repellent was another one that kept showing up. It seemed to get decent feedback from people using it around garages, sheds, and crawl spaces. The only hesitation I had was that most people still talked about it as part of a bigger plan rather than something that solved the problem on its own.

I also noticed quite a few homeowners saying they stopped worrying so much about repellents once they focused on sealing entry points instead. Steel wool, expanding foam where appropriate, and closing up obvious gaps seemed to come up almost as often as any actual repellent product.

One thing that genuinely changed how I was looking at it was reading through the EPA's guidance on rodent prevention. It wasn't really about finding the strongest repellent at all. It focused on removing food sources, limiting shelter and sealing entry points before relying on repellents or traps. That made a lot more sense than expecting one spray or device to solve everything.

If I had to try something today, I'd probably use Tomcat rodent repellent, but only after going around the house and sealing any obvious entry points. That seems to be the common thread across most of the advice I came across. The repellent might help, but it probably isn't doing much if the mice can still walk straight back in.

For those of you who've actually managed to keep mice away long-term, what ended up making the biggest difference? Was it a specific repellent, or did sealing entry points solve most of the problem?

Moved in 3 months ago. The side of the wardrobe has mold but I’ve now noticed these dots next to the wardrobe and all along the same side of the room above the window.

I’ve had a leaky loft but as far as I know nothing has been leaking where the window is, but obviously it’s damp as the wardrobe on the same wall is damp.

I just want to make sure it’s not dried up water and it’s actually mold!? And what do I do!?

This floor in my apartment has been dirty since we moved in a year ago. I have scrubbed it on hands and knees to no avail. It's slightly textured to mimic woodgrain but it's definitely not wood. I live in a cheap comlex with little to no maintenance or oversight so it wasn't even clean when we moved in.

I have many pets and it's only getting worse no matter what I try. Walking around for too long barefoot will make your feet black 😭. I'm scared of ruining it in an attempt to deep clean it! Help!

Not sure if this is the best sub to post this, but I thought with a bunch of people fanatic about cleanliness...

I'm Asian and raised in a household where everyone wears slippers as our childhood home had only tiled floors. Now I live in a small 2-bed apartment with my partner who is from Eastern Europe and a baby. Our current home is a mix of tiled floors and carpets.

My partner feels that wearing slippers, which usually has silicon/rubber soles, is "dirty" because the soles pick up a lot of dirt particles which get "dragged around" as I walk. He wears socks, which I feel is no cleaner because it also attracts dirt and also absorbs any tea or oil liquid splatters that might be on our kitchen floor. He then also wears the socks onto the big playmat where baby's at, while I tend to take off my slippers when going onto non-tile surfaces.

Help me resolve this domestic debate once and for all. Thanks!

This appeared on the basement floor of my unfinished, 100 year old house in the hood. It's been raining the past few days pretty heavily, not sure if that's connected at all. Im so scared this is asbestos. I accidentally stepped in it. Is there anything I can do about it??
