General Advice EMERGENCY: Sister brought lethal lilies into the house, cat sniffed them, and my family is laughing at my tears. What do I do?
UPDATE: CAT IS FINE AND I TROW AWAY FLOWERS!
So, my sister got some flowers (lilies) which are deadly to cats. The cat has already sniffed them, and I don't know if she ate any. She is going to the vet tomorrow.
When I explained this to my sister, she told me that I don't even know what kind of flowers they are, that my problem is that I have nobody to buy me flowers, and that she doesn't plan on moving them just because of me. She also laughed in my face while I was crying out of worry for the cat.
When I told her I would throw the flowers away if she didn't move them, she said, "Wow, you're so tough."
My mother doesn't believe me either, and she is laughing at me too.
What should I do?
•
u/Relative-Damage-1458 14h ago
Throw the flowers out or move them to a room the cat doesn’t have access to. Lillies are incredibly toxic and it doesn’t take much of the pollen to put a cat in kidney failure.
•
u/walpurga 14h ago
With people like that I wouldn't even trust them to not playfully give the cat part of a leaf or something to be funny.
•
u/meow4612 14h ago
I told her to keep the door closed, she said that she won't do that bc she wants air. She got these for her birthday idk what to do
•
u/librarians_wwine 14h ago
I was just at the emergency vet last week, and some man was there with his 3 cats, all 3 had eaten his lilies that he bought for his wife. All 3 died he ended up with 3 dead cats and a bill for $10k. Toss the flowers.
•
u/DraconicEtherealVCat 14h ago
Throw them away, better yet destroy them or put them on a place where they won't put them back. Then just get her new flowers to make up for it. You'll probably get in trouble, but I think that's better than a cat potentially dying.
•
u/Fragrant_Total_48 14h ago
If you can’t get rid of the lilies, put your cat in a different room and keep her there until the lilies are gone.
•
u/shoe_owner 14h ago
Take them outside, destroy them and throw them in the garbage. Your sister will be annoyed for a few days but your cat will be dead forever if you don't.
•
u/Sullkken 14h ago
Ask her why she wants your cat dead for her ego. She can keep her flowers to herself just fine.
•
u/Amazing_Snow_8882 14h ago
Stand your ground and throw them away. She can always get new flowers that are cat safe.
•
u/Alice_600 14h ago
you know what kills flowers fast? hot water just replace the water with hot water in the vase and they will wilt quickly then you have evidence whoever gave them to her was cheap cause thouse flowers weren't fresh.
•
u/malary1234 NOT Verified as Veterinary or Care Professional 14h ago
Throw them out. Her flowers are already dead LESS important than the life of your cat.
I’m not suggesting you do this. If it were me, I would take a picture of the flowers. Toss them out. Print the photo and put it where the flowers were. “Now you can her dead plant genitals forever! What a nice sister I am!”
•
u/Relative-Damage-1458 14h ago
Throw the flowers and the sister out tbh. The brazen disrespect towards a living creature is disgusting.
•
•
•
u/VenomBite214 14h ago
Throw them out. Immediately. Don't argue with them. Just throw far away from the house
•
u/Good-Butterscotch498 14h ago
Actually, toss them in the garbage bin. There may be other cats in the area.
•
u/Bree4444 14h ago
Yea absolutely. Best if you can seal them in something unappetizing, like a bag of used litter, coffee grounds; this is what’s suggested when you have to throw away medications if you can’t get them to safe disposal.
•
u/RidgeGardener 14h ago
Build a concrete dome over them so the radiation doesn't leak out! Lillies have a halflife of 1,500 years!
•
u/l0vebug89 14h ago
With family like this, who needs enemies. Toss them and protect your cat all costs
•
u/SirMightySmurf 14h ago edited 14h ago
Throw the flowers out. And give your sister the bill for the vet visit.
•
u/TK_Nanerpuss 14h ago
You're sister is a visitor, (she's also a bit of a bully.) Your cat lives there. It is their home. You have pledged to protect them.
•
u/meow4612 14h ago
Thank you! I'm scared because they will start saying that I'm crazy, but it's obviously the solution
•
u/mamajt 14h ago
My cat literally died from lily poisoning, seizing in our arms, rushing to the vet. She'd already been there overnight one night. They let her come home and we woke up to her in her death throes.
No. Fucking. Lilies.
Mind you, it was the pollen from my anniversary bouquet that got my baby. She got on the table, stepped in pollen, licked her feet. They don't even have to eat the flower or leaves.
Keep the cat 1,000% away from them and once they're gone, clean EVERYTHING that the flowers, leaves, or pollen could have touched.
No. Fucking. Lilies.
•
•
u/shoe_owner 14h ago
Well, they can say what they like. They're wrong and it doesn't matter. Do what you need to do.
•
u/SirMightySmurf 14h ago
You can also get the vet to give you a write up about lilies to give to your idiot sister.
•
u/09dollface 14h ago
Show the picture to the vet when you go in and ask for their opinion in writing on if they're toxic too
•
u/LangdonAlg3r 14h ago edited 14h ago
Your family sounds abusive. Toss the flowers and they can just deal with it. If it’s not the flowers it seems like they’re just going to find something else to be mean to you about. Since you already know they’re going to be mean no matter what you do then it doesn’t actually matter what you do anyway. You may as well have them be jerks about something that it was worth it for you to do.
Edited to add: I wouldn’t let either of my kids treat their sibling that way and if they did I sure as hell wouldn’t be laughing about it. Your mother’s behavior is disgusting.
•
u/NiceParkingSpot_Rita 14h ago
Better to look crazy than to have to deal with your car being sick or not making it. They are awful for not caring.

Pet forums have revealed to me how many genuine sociopaths there are in the world. I hope your family grows up someday, OP.
•
u/RudeJudge8906 14h ago
Your sister is a real see you next Tuesday.
•
u/Accurate_Elevator368 14h ago
That's the EXACT word that came to mind for me too.
•
u/BookGirl711 14h ago
The problem with that is that OP's sister's doesn't have the depth or the warmth, though 🫤
•
u/Accurate_Elevator368 14h ago
You're not wrong. I absolutely DETEST people like this "sister". And is the type that I would call a C right to their face and go toe to toe with. When it comes to cats... I'm militant.
•
u/RileyB224 14h ago
What does that mean ? It is a cultural reference ? (I'm genuinely curious. I'm not an English-native speaker)
•
u/CatsNDogsLiving2Gthr 14h ago
C (see) U (You) N (next) T (Tuesday)
It doesn’t translate, it’s a play on the pronunciation of the letters C and U to form a sentence.
•
•
u/HappyAstronaut7 14h ago
English is my first language and I have no idea what it means
•
u/nopatience4idiots 14h ago
It is (and she is) C. U. N. T. The 'see' kind of throws you off. It's an acronym.
•
u/itscoconutsnail 14h ago
Adding another comment to say poinsettias are also incredibly toxic for cats
•
u/meow4612 14h ago
I saw that too. I keep telling them (thaks god cat doesnt eat them) but still... They don't care
•
•
u/tlawrence-92 14h ago
When you go to the vet, record yourself asking how serious lilies are to cats and get their response on video.
My family also tends to not take me seriously either but the second literally anybody else says the same thing, they take it seriously. Good luck!
Edit: grammar
•
u/Then-Nefariousness54 14h ago
I'd throw them away because I'm that person.
•
u/meow4612 14h ago
I am too... She got those for her birthday but I don't care anymore, I don't want my cat dead
•
u/CatsNDogsLiving2Gthr 14h ago
fuck your entire family
Tell them to get fucked
Sorry you’re dealing w this. Your concern is valid.
•
•
u/guessillgofuckoff 14h ago
My Grandma was wearing lily perfume when she visited unbeknownst to me and the next day my cat collapsed, he wasn't even exposed to the real flowers. Get rid of those immediately, fuck your sister's feelings
•
u/BlackBabyJeebus 14h ago
Whoa! I hope he was okay!
•
u/guessillgofuckoff 14h ago
He ended up being okay yes thank goodness 😭 but now I'm that crazy cat mom that watches him breathe to make sure he's okay every day
•
u/iSheree 14h ago
Tomorrow would be too late for the vet if she has been affected by it. Keep the cat away from the lilies, or better, get rid of them out of the house. Take them outside, rip them up and throw them in the trash (wash hands thoroughly after). Even if that gets you into trouble, better than a dead cat.
•
u/meow4612 14h ago
I put a cat into my room now and she act normal. I belive that she isn't affected. I will take her to the vet in a couple hours, first thing in the morning. Thank you, I know that everything is better than a dead cat so I will throw them out tomorrow
•
u/Wild-Self-24 14h ago
So, the problem with Lily toxicity is once symptoms are showing it's too late to treat. The ONLY effective treatment is pre-emptive treatment before symptoms show.
Fingers crossed kitty is okay
•
u/Bree4444 14h ago
Yea if there’s any possible way you can afford/can get her to an emergencyvet tonight, please please do.
•
u/ativamnesia 14h ago
Just fyi not trying to attack you but you believe she isn’t affected based on nothing. Cats will not show immediate consequences from sniffing the flowers even if they have inhaled the pollen, and cats hide illness. Definitely keep the cat locked up away from the flowers and if your family wants to play like fucking morons show them any internet source about the flowers and if they still want to act up call the vet to have them the staff describe on speakerphone to your parents how deadly these flowers are.
Throw the flowers out as soon as you can and clean the room they were in just in case there was a lot of pollen.
•
u/PersonalityDecent526 14h ago
Girl move those out the house throw them away whatever you need to do!!! I'm sorryy... your family..they sound very shallow and over all rude. It's just flowers...so they don't matter!
•
u/Viitori 14h ago
Take the cats into your room for now, compose yourself so they won't make fun of you being "emotional" and show them the proof that lilies are toxic to cats on your phone or laptop. If your mom or sister are going to the vet with you, have the vet tell them that lilies can kill them. Put the flowers in her room and make sure the cats won't get in there, too.
•
u/LangdonAlg3r 14h ago
I highly doubt that they’ll care. People who behave like that aren’t usually interested in facts. If presented with facts they’ll just find some other justification. You can’t reason with people who are determined to be unreasonable.
•
•
u/sketchybritt 14h ago edited 14h ago
Throw them out! They’ll do more harm than good, they are toxic as hell, and will kill your cat.
And then once you’ve done that, don’t forget to take the flowers out.
•
•
•
u/meow4612 14h ago
I have to live with them:( I go to college and work, but I still can't afford to live on my own But I will have to throw the flowers away. Thank you!
•
u/Opalescent_pixie 14h ago
Lillies->trash. Kitty -> vet for blood work
Lillies can kill cats and I’m so sorry your sister did that and laughed at your distress! It’s not funny or a game. I hope the baby is okay!
•
u/meow4612 14h ago
Thank you! She is in my room now and she is acting normal. I will take her to the vet in couple houres, first thing in the morning
•
u/Opalescent_pixie 14h ago
That’s good to hear! I hope it’s all good news and you can breathe easier tomorrow
•
u/BreadHex 14h ago
Hey OP I just wanna say, the right decision here is to take your cat sooner rather than later to the vet. If that’s now, do so now. Even if it means a longer car ride than your local vet. Emergency vets etc.
The family stuff takes a backseat, deal with that later. That cat is your family, and you’re justified in being worried. Cats won’t show signs immediately after inhaling pollen, but this is very much something that can be different in 6, 12, 18 hours.
Right now you have the luxury of time. Please use it.
•
u/june-orchid-1234 14h ago
Tell your sister the flowers have to go as they can kill your cat. She should try a little understanding instead of laughing at you.
•
u/meow4612 14h ago
I already did, I told her that. She doesn't care. She get those for her birthday. Idk what to do
•
•
u/leafcritters 14h ago edited 14h ago
Could you send them an article? Please emphasize they are not just poisonous in the same way most houseplants are but often DEADLY even if just licked or inhaled pollen. If you haven’t already you need to put them outside right away. I’m so sorry you live with such heartless people.
Edit: Perhaps they don’t deserve this but maybe you can suggest buying a replacement bouquet that isn’t toxic to cats? If it were my family I would probably do this even with my own money just to keep the peace.
•
u/Linzybinz 13h ago
Why are they laughing at you?? Have you told them to google it for themselves if they don’t believe you? I would kick my mom and sis out of my house for their disregard for my pets wellbeing and then laughing at my worry.
•
u/IIRCIreadthat 13h ago
Throw them out. These people are terrible and your 'relationship' with them is a) already a lost cause and b) not remotely worth watching your cat die while they stand around and laugh. Do not throw them out where they can be retrieved - if possible, take them to a random public trash can where your family can't find them.
•
u/villian_era_witch 14h ago
Throw your family away with the flowers. No more problems.
•
u/meow4612 14h ago
Hahahahh I wish but i have to live with them:( But I will have to throw flowers away
•
u/Accurate_Elevator368 14h ago
Throw them OUT NOW. Your sister is a... well.. starts with C.
•
•
•
u/MoodApart8768 14h ago
Throw them out. Stare her down as you do it. My family avoid these types of flowers because every single one of us loves cats.
We don't bring or keep anything in reach of the dogs either (chocolate is eaten quickly in the house or kept in a place the dogs cannot reach them. We know that bakers chocolate is what's really dangerous and that other forms cause diarrhea. We don't want to deal with any of that.).
We do not risk our pets lives or well-being. Your mom and sister need to get a head check. Preferably a bouquet of bricks should do it.
•
•
u/Horst_de_Wurmer 14h ago
Honestly, I’d take the cat the the emergency vet. The damage could be building inside of her as we read this.
•
u/Exciting_Jicama_4496 14h ago
You don’t need their permission to throw away an item deathly dangerous to your cat. It should never be in the house. Not even in another room. Too much risk. And take the cat to the vet.
•
u/unlikely_turnip37 14h ago
Take your cat to the vet. Waiting could quite possibly be fatal. Lilies lead to acute kidney failure quite quickly.
•
u/Ok_Feedback_6574 14h ago
Those are dangerous Lilly’s. All it takes for some cats is grooming some pollen off themselves. either they stay in her closed room in a high spot, or I’d toss them.
•
u/martins-dr 14h ago
Throw them away. Either take them outside and cut the flowers off the stems or pour something on them, in the trash, so your sister doesn’t try to take them out of the trash. Make sure the bag goes outside and they don’t stay in the trash inside.
I’m sorry your family sucks. Roses are a much better option if she insists on having flowers inside.
•
u/Difficult_North_272 14h ago
Could you keep the cat in your room temporarily? It's not fair that you and the cat have to adjust because your family are idiots, but if they won't remove them then it may be the only way to keep the cat away until they're gone
•
u/meow4612 14h ago
Yes she is in my room now! I'm taking her to the vet first thing in the morning and I will trow the flowers out
•
u/Difficult_North_272 14h ago
That's good! I'm sure she'll be okay then, you've done all the right things to protect her and she's lucky to have one good person looking after her
•
u/Stonetheflamincrows 14h ago
Throw them out and if your sister is going to be a bitch about it, buy her some cat friendly flowers or a potted plant. Your cat’s life is more important than flowers.
•
u/Impossible_Memory_65 14h ago
Lilies are the most toxic flower to cats. Every bit of it, including the water you keep them in. Just a tiny bit of pollen can be fatal if left untreated. My cat chewed on a lily leaf once. It was an expensive lesson.
•
•
u/CandyAdventurous2127 14h ago
Fuck your sister and your family. Sorry that’s kind of harsh but they’re being super insensitive to a very serious issue. My family knows to NEVER buy lillies bc of my cat. I’m not sure what happens if they smell them im sure that’s not good, but the real danger is her eating them. Even a little bit is extremely toxic to cats. Please throw them away and if your sister makes a stink about it ignore her. A quick google search would easily show her how real this is. Personally I would much rather have her be mad at you for a bit over throwing some flowers away than have my cat be in danger. Please keep a close eye on your cat.
•
•
u/AlternativeDish7978 14h ago
First of all...dont wait until tomorrow to take the cat to the vet as lillies can kill fast. And second, I'm sorry your family isn't listening to you. I haven't read any other comments but I'm assuming everyone is adults here?
Edit to add: throw the flowers outside
•
u/No-Commission-8159 14h ago
You google and then send them a link on how lillies are toxic to cats
And then ask them to get rid of the them
Then offer to get her some other flowers
And tell her you do not want her to play for the vet fees
•
u/meow4612 14h ago
Oh I did that before with other flowers... I send real medical links and everything. My mother said "You really belive those stuff from internet?"
•
u/Maggiesmith3115 14h ago
Years ago, family cat spent 3 days in ICU after eating those lilies, brought back from a wedding. We were unaware of the danger. He recovered well, but emotional toll was great. It was a very expensive week!
•
u/AccomplishedTip9864 14h ago
Destroy them! Them blow up the family gm with articles and stories about cats and lillies. Send them the most graphic and detailed stories. That’s probably the only way they’ll take it seriously.
•
u/meow4612 14h ago
Oh I did that before with other flowers... I send real medical links and everything. My mother said "You really belive those stuff from internet?" But anyways I will have to destroy them:)
•
•
u/marvelousswiftie 14h ago
Throw them out! Thank you for trying to protect your cat. And punch your sister for me if she tries to fight you. I can’t believe some people just choose to not care and be ignorant about how they can kill animals. Evil, both your sister and your mom
•
u/Round-Fly2053 14h ago
oooh man, get a new sister.
for real though, toss out the flowers, your sister will live.
•
u/StormFast524 14h ago
Take the picture of the flowers and show the veterinarian to be sure if they are lethal to cats. Also the vet should have. Pamphlet with a list of what is poisonous to cats. Check on the internet to be sure if you are right show the proof. Keep Christmas poinsettias away what kind is parent doesn’t let you know how to be sure. That is a parents job
•
•
•
•
u/pinkaeru 14h ago
Look it up and show them the proof that it's toxic to cats. Call the poison control hotline and have them explain it. Your mom and sister are horrible people for the way they treat you and your cat!
•
u/Bree4444 14h ago
So unfortunately the pet poison control line is a relatively hefty fine, which is much better spent AT the vet. Vets know already how toxic they are, so they wouldn’t have to call/add that to the bill.
•
u/malary1234 NOT Verified as Veterinary or Care Professional 14h ago
Toss the flowers. Present them with evidence (easy to find on the internet). Infographics work best I have found make sure they are from a reputable source like a vet school, AMVA, etc. you can check the condition of the flowers to check if she ate any.
If that doesn’t work you can call the ASPCA poison hotline and have them to them on speaker. I’ve never called the line so I don’t know if you have to pay for it. Alternatively, call a vet clinic (if it’s late you can call an urgent care place and ask them to explain.
•
u/Bree4444 14h ago
Unfortunately you do have to pay, since it’s not government funded like the human version. If the vet has to call, they’ll generally add it to your bill. But I’m almost certain that since surely all vets know how deadly lilies are, they wouldn’t need to call.
•
u/ExistentialMyco 14h ago
I’d get a whole new family if I were you. (I know easier said than done). They sound toxic af with no cares for animal well-being.
•
•
•
u/Real-Community5252 14h ago
You can find at many references on how deadly lilies are to cats. Print some out and leave them in the empty vase
•
•
u/red-sur 14h ago

•
u/Valhkyrie 14h ago
https://giphy.com/gifs/hyKiRaIisyUwJ1AeqM
Toss it. They’re beautiful but not worth the danger they pose to the cat.
•
u/lilnifferjen 14h ago
They’re my favourite lilies!! But dangerous to kitties.
See if the pollinating parts of the flower are there. They’re a toxic part that could affect her.
She hasn’t chewed a leaf or blossom so just try to take things in stride. Just monitor her.
•
u/somethingtheso 14h ago
Question, my family sometimes brings in lillies even though they have cats, but they seem to have the pollen things off. Are they still dangerous?
•
•
u/henicorina 14h ago
You can see the pollen very clearly in the photo. The pollen itself is the most toxic part and it can harm cats even if it’s just inhaled.
•
u/itscoconutsnail 14h ago
It’s safe for them to sniff the outside as long as she didnt inhale any pollen, it’s VERY sticky so you would be able to see it on her nose.
We have a peace lily in the house and sometimes have lilies in bouquets, our cats have all survived since we put them out of reach.
Put a trash bag over the flowers and tie them before just putting them in the trash
•
u/Wild-Self-24 14h ago
You wouldn't see it on the nose if kitty licked it off. Better to be safe than sorry
•
u/itscoconutsnail 14h ago
Oh true, i was thinking of a time a family member smelled a lily and had big yellow splotches on their face, it was hard to wipe off, too
•
•
u/Bree4444 14h ago
Unless by out of reach, you mean they’re basically in locked glass cases, please get rid of them. Cats are genuinely insane and will find a way to get themselves killed.
•
u/BackwardsE 14h ago
Throw them out. Get a new sister. Fortunately that will be easy to do because you should be getting a new mother too.
•
u/MargoBarbara2 14h ago
If your sister refuses to dispose of them could you ask her to cover them whilst moving them to a non-cat room? Theyll drop a lot of pollen over a week. Or maybe you could offer to replace the bouquet with some safe flowers. Send her phone factual information from a vet source of how toxic they are. Check the cat for any pollen on nose, fur or paws and use a wet wipe or damp cloth over the cat to be sure. You can check the flowers stems and leaves for bite marks. I did not know about the danger of lillies for years and lived in a rental that half the garden was lillies and had bouquets gifted of other lillie types and none of my cats ever got sick so dont panic but keep a close eye for any symptoms like drooling , vomiting, hiding, lethargy or refusal to eat. Same day vet visit required if symptomatic. If they really wont ditch the flowers the cat will have to be kept in a separate room until the flowers are out of the house and any dropped pollen cleaned up. Poor kitty :(
•
u/meow4612 14h ago
I already asked her. She said that she won't keep closed door bc she want air and she doesnt care:) Idk what to do... Anyways I'm taking my cat to the vet in a couple hours, first thing in the morning, she is in my room now. Thank you!
•
•
u/Itchy-Imagination565 14h ago
I’m sorry she won’t move them somewhere your cat can’t get to them. That’s so ridiculous.
•
u/LoveCats2022 14h ago edited 14h ago
Edit: The entire plant is toxic! If you haven’t already thrown them out, put the garbage bag over the flowers so the pollen can’t get anywhere. Also, check to make sure the pollen didn’t get anywhere on the floor or other surfaces that your kitty might get on. Shame on the people making you feel bad.
•
u/cckka 14h ago
Nope. It's every part of the plant. Even the water in the vase.
•
u/LoveCats2022 14h ago
I didn’t even think about that! Thank you for commenting!! Anytime someone has brought over lily’s, I throw them away!
•
u/cckka 13h ago
No problem, I just want to make sure everyone has the right info since they're so dangerous. It's such a shame because they're my absolute favorite flower and they smell SO good. I even had them in my wedding bouquet! I dried them and have them in a sealed shadowbox frame so I can still enjoy them without any danger to my cats.
•
u/Sadmochalattee 14h ago
let them know that they put your cat in danger and find it amusing ??? They are no longer welcome in your home. Its funny that make cat can (hopefully will NOT) Die from these flowers ???? It’ll be funny watching you guys scramble to go home or find a hotel🫶
•
•
•
u/Extension-Injury6957 14h ago
Cut the pollen buds, and move the flowers to somewhere higher up where the cat can’t reach. Take your cat to the vet just in case, so you can catch it early.
•
u/cckka 14h ago
The flowers need to go completely. The whole flower is toxic, not just the pollen. Lilies are dangerous enough that unless you can be 100% certain that a cat cannot access them they shouldn't be in the house. Cats are notorious for finding their way into high shelves, especially when something is there that they aren't supposed to get into.
•
•
u/shenfever 14h ago
I’d throw her flowers out even if they weren’t toxic, she sounds like a huge bitch
•
u/RileyB224 14h ago
You family seems even more toxic than the flowers... What is wrong with them ???
Sometimes the best thing is to do, if you can, is get as far away as possible from the people who are hurting you.
Good luck with your cat.
•
u/HistoricalChard4307 14h ago
So, for the longest time, I had no idea about the Lillies. My sweet boy passed at the ripe age of 18 (roughly 4 years ago) and had chewed quite a few of them over the last decade and a half as they are my wife’s favorite flower. Not sure if he was special (“special”), or if we just got incredibly lucky, but now I know and we don’t keep them around our current kitty.
•
u/StormFast524 14h ago
Where did she put them
•
u/meow4612 14h ago
My sister put them in her room, my cat is in my room now. In a couple hours, first thing in the morning I will take cat to the vet (she is acting normal now) and throw flowers)
•
•

Send them articles on how deadly they can be. Also cut out the centers (stamens) and throw them away as the pollen is super toxic

I would throw the lillies away and kick them both out my house. Hell no. Take your cat to the vet and send them the bill.

I have to live with them:( I go to college and work, but I still can't afford to live on my own :( But I will have to throw the flowers away. She is in my room now and I'm taking her to vet in a couple hours.
Thank you!

Posts need to be on topic for the sub and in relation to advice, questions, and discussion related to cat care.

Cut the little stamens off. The entire lily is toxic, but the majority of the toxicity cases are due to the pollen getting on the pets fur and then licking their fur. If you cut off the Little stamen that stops this from happening.

In the event you don’t move them out of the house, at least pinch those horizontal brown parts off. Those are the anthers and contain all the pollen. If you remove those there is less chance it will affect your cat, of course not having them in the house is safest

You need to take your cat to the emergency vet asap even a hint of pollen can be fatal

I will seldom bring lilies into my house but I know my cats won’t touch any plants, so if I’m gifted them the first thing I’ll do is cut off all the stamen so no pollen can risk falling anywhere.
If you can’t/dont want to throw out the lilies (I know prioritizing your pets health is first but I also know we have to pick and choose our battles with crappy family members) then I’d highly recommend cutting off all the stamen, or at least just cut off the anther which is what the pollen comes from, and ensuring the lilies are out of reach of the cat

Locking this post to keep it from getting out of hand. Removing the flowers and pursuing an urgent vet visit for potential lily poisoning would be the best next steps here. OP, feel free to make a new update post on your cat's condition.
