Abnormal Vomit/Excreta My cat pooped while I was giving him butt smacks!

I’m a 26F and I’m currently posting from The Bronx, New York. I don’t think this is an emergency and my cat seems totally fine but I just wanted to post to see if anyone else has had this experience or just to make sure I’m not missing anything and stuff to look out for a be careful of.

My cat William is a completely healthy neutered, 2 year old male cat besides having feline herpes which his is the one that affects one of his eyes, he hasn’t had a flare up in ages and besides that he’s very healthy.

Well recently I’ve started giving him butt smacks because I’ve noticed that he enjoys them. I often do it while he are playing or just some little butt smacks at the base of his tail while petting him and everything has been normal besides tonight. Tonight we were playing and I was giving him some butt smacks at the base of his tail, and often he likes to flip on his back showing me his belly so I was giving him butt smacks like on the side of his butt while he was in his back. I was laughing and showing my husband because it was funny how when I do it William will put his back legs like straight up into the air and his toes are like completely spread. I was laughing because he just seemed like he was really enjoying it.

Well for the first time tonight while I was doing that I didn’t notice until basically the pooped was already almost all the way out of his bum that he was pooping. It didn’t seem like William was all to aware either? I don’t know. But it scared the day lights out of me when I saw he was popping! I thought something was wrong or he was hurt or injured! But he just got right back up when ran away and started grooming himself and acting normal. I obviously cleaned his pooped up right away and I felt kind of bad because I thought I did something wrong or hurt him. I assumed most cats like butt smacks. Well I asked chat gpt and it said that I am totally fine. With William on his back and being super relaxed he probably had the poop low in his colon like he already had to poop soon so when I was giving him butt smacks the stimulation was basically like pressed his “poop button” I didn’t know he had!!

Especially because he was acting completely fine and normal afterwards he is probably okay! And his poops was a nice solid healthy poop so that was a relief as well and pretty easy clean up lol. I think I’m not going to do anymore but smacks for awhile. And at least not anymore while he’s on his back lol. Any advice? And has anyone else had this experience?

Yeah I just got my cat a couple days ago and ChatGPT told me to go to urgent out of hours vets, my cat isn’t even insured yet, I have anxiety and it sent me into a full blown panic attack and I rang the old owner and he said all this behaviour is normal for him, I feel so silly and I will try not to use ChatGPT for my cat anymore

Thank you for this because as a human care provider I am so sick of seeing worried well people from ChatGPT recommendations 🤦‍♀️

If you’re smart enough, have some understanding of the subjects, and can cross reference — it’s a great resource as an additional opinion.

that's really odd, I would probably talk to your vet about it. not like ER vet go right now but like, call and ask? my cats get overstimulated from butt pats so I don't ever really do it for an extended period of time. the stimulate to poo theory is interesting but that's like, actually rubbing the anus with a moist cloth (or mother's tongue) and I'm not convinced that's what happened

ChatGPT n'est pas fiable et invente des choses... En plus d'être une catastrophe écologique et éthique. C'est la dernière chose vers laquelle vous devriez aller quand il est question de santé.

I think it makes sense that while you were stimulating his bowel area he had an accident. I’d imagine it’s similar to tickling someone so hard they pee. It might be good to check with the vet though that he doesn’t have any blockage or constipation and monitor his bowel movements to make sure they’re normal.

Maybe he just had one on the chamber and it came out when he did a big stretch on his back.

I would say ask a vet but I think that's completely fine. One of our cats LOVES butt smacks (and hard too!) He has farted when we spanked him so I could imagine pooping is a possibility haha if you have a chewy subscription you have access to an online vet if you don't have a normal vet. It would be good just to talk to a professional to get their opinion

Just keep giving him what he likes. He was probably just relaxed. If it happens every time, then decide if his pleasure is worth picking up a little poo.

Mom cats lick their kittens behinds to stimulate pooping. What you are doing to your cat is very weird so I haven’t heard of that before, but your cats physical reaction aligns with normal.

I don’t think it sounds so weird. I’m envisioning like smacks on his lower back or like side of his thighs, not straight on his butthole like a mama cat would do. I’m given my kitties little rump pats before during hard pets, granted one time it resulted in a horrific anal gland expulsion.

Between this and the poop I think I'll pass on butt smacks! 😳

Its not weird at all, my cat also loves to be smacked, especially with a fly swatter xD

First time I have read of someone actually doing this to their cat! I agree, weird but normal lol

After watching that subreddit I tried doing gentle bongos on my 8 year old cats. Um so I learned they do NOT like bongos. They both looked at me like what are you doing?!? 🫪

I don’t think it’s abnormal? One of my cats loves butt taps too- he’ll purr and name biscuits. The vet said it mimics the feeling of their mother’s heartbeat. However I’ve never had him poo during 😂

you’re sexually stimulating your cat by smacking that area, just fyi

u/DiscombobulatedCut55 5d ago

This is news to me. Can you provide some data on this?

u/hamartia21 4d ago

i think that’s probably the back of the legs? not on the back

Was it poop or was it something from his anal glands?? That usually smells VERY bad, and is brown and liquidy. The anal glands are exactly where you were patting him when he was laying down, there are two on either side of a cats butt. Cats usually are able to express them or clean them their selves by grooming -- obese and older cats may need help since they can't naturally reach that area and it's common for owners to express the glands for them and it probably feels good lol
