Beta Patch Notes - WS v1.3.0 / BL v1.5.0

Greetings Warriors of Calradia,

Our last content patch focused on the sandbox simulation. It made diplomacy more responsive and encouraged our lords to pursue meaningful wars, create larger armies, go to sea, harass convoys and raid villages. It also included the new seaborne raid, additional ships and equipment as well as many tweaks to gameplay, visuals and performance.

Today’s beta release puts more emphasis on player activities. The segment prior to the patch notes discusses our motivations for some of these changes.

War Sails

While seafaring offers new opportunities for merchants and warriors alike, it requires substantial progress to not only acquire a ship, but also hire a crew that can fend for themselves. This is sensible from a balance perspective, but gates much of the naval content. We wanted to improve upon this without deeply changing the early game that many players enjoy.

The most direct solution the beta introduces is - additional player choice. At the beginning of every Sandbox game, you will be able to choose if you want to enter Calradia with a ship to your name or play the regular game start.

However, even if you opt for the latter, the patch includes a number of changes that should make progression both smoother and more flexible. For one, we added the ferry feature so that smaller player parties can reach (and escape) areas of the map that would otherwise be hard or impossible to get to without a ship. Given player feedback, we also increased land and sea travel speeds by 15% so that you will generally be faster to progress (and recover).

Once you do have a vessel of your own, you will find the pirate spawns adjusted to include smaller parties that you can engage earlier into the game. Similarly, part of the reason for why we introduced naval random events as well as the battle sites and wreckage system is to offer players more experiences that don’t require a strong fleet. Having said that, they should increase the variety of naval gameplay regardless of progression and allow players to organically witness more of what is happening in the world.

The mooring feature, in turn, opens up additional options for aspiring captains as their fleet grows. You will be able to store instead of sell ships that you cannot effectively crew yet. You also won’t need to risk your entire fleet in every naval battle. Instead, you can specialize and only bring what fits your current play style - be that trading, raiding or naval combat.

Finally, we added port points to coastal castles. While more locations to embark and disembark should make sea travel more accessible in general, the larger motivation is offering additional opportunities for armies to clash at sea. Given that most army encounters occur around sieges, naval blockades on castles will contribute to that.

While the beta includes other changes such as improved map visuals, better naval party decision making, storyline tweaks and the ability for players to cut boarding ropes in missions, our focus with this patch is on naval content access, progress and variety. Especially the variety and frequency of what you can experience at sea will remain an important topic for War Sails going forward.

Base Game

As we explored starting with a ship for War Sails, it quickly became clear that this was also an opportunity for the base game. Not the ship, mind you, but advanced starting options.

These are split into three categories - each with their own goals.

The player start options allow experienced players to access later game content more quickly and begin a game with a particular character role (such as king, vassal or merchant). For new players, this will also serve as an additional form of progression since you need to unlock most of the roles in regular gameplay before you can start with them.

The campaign scenarios, on the other hand, are always available. Their primary purpose is to increase replayability through the introduction of tailored but partially randomized world states. What would happen if the Empire remained united? What if you entered Calradia with only two warring factions remaining? What if you threw the dice on the state of the world? The campaign scenarios allow you to find out.

Modifiers are the final piece of the puzzle. They take aim at specific game mechanics that can deeply affect the experience such as recruit generation or travel speeds. Players who do not enjoy the default settings or just want to try something different will now have alternatives.

As you will be able to combine settings from these categories, the advanced starting options should offer quite a bit of content variety. They also integrate the Fast Mode directly into the game rather than the launcher, which will make it accessible on consoles as well. Please note that all of these are set when starting a Sandbox game and cannot be changed later.

The rest of this patch is less about where you begin and more about what you can see as you are playing.

Battle sites and wreckages are one example of this. Their fundamental goal is to add visibility to battles that take place in the world outside of the player's immediate vision range. Instead of simply happening with players none the wiser, they now leave behind a temporary battle site that you can come across. You can also investigate it for further information and potential rewards. We believe that this will be a good addition to the organic worldbuilding and storytelling of our sandbox.

Visibility or recognizable gameplay impact is also an important aspect for two topics that are frequently raised in the community - traits and relations.

While they already influence AI in kingdom decisions and military actions (siege, raid, battle) among other things, it can be difficult to discern their role given the competition with other factors - and each other. For example, a valorous lord is less discouraged by a garrison’s power but may still not pursue a siege due to positive relations with the settlement owner - as long as there are more attractive, alternative targets.

With that said, there are options to make traits and relations more apparent and impactful to the player’s own activity. The present patch seeks to do this with the introduction of trait effects and blood feuds.

As the name suggests, trait effects tie a number of effects to your current character traits. These were designed to support gameplay that is aligned with each side of a trait’s spectrum. So whether you are merciful or cruel, you will have effects that suit the role you are playing. And while this is more oriented towards the player’s character development, AI lords do have traits and will benefit from them as well.

Blood feuds, on the other hand, are primarily concerned with relations. If you execute a clan member of another clan, they will begin doing the same to your clan until relations recover or blood money is paid. Notably, AI clans can start a blood feud as well and execute one of your clan members, including you, if you have sufficiently negative relations (currently -50). So you may want to check who you are fighting - or at least ensure that your heir hasn’t already been captured.

Finally, we took a look at the (offensive, defensive, balanced) player clan party stances. Much like traits, the active stance influenced the party behavior scores, but did not guarantee specific outcomes. To give players a more reliable way to manage their clan, we decided to shift away from the score influence and towards hard, observable rules for the most common pain points. You will now be able to directly allow or prohibit joining armies, raiding villages, donating troops and having a fleet (for War Sails).

Naturally, the patch also includes changes that go beyond these themes such as additional battle terrains, passive experience gains for lords and companions as well as a substantial rework of reinforcement spawns in battles.

As we enter this beta period, we look forward to further improving these and other aspects with your feedback. We also want to note that this version’s live release will include captain mode formation targeting, spectator mode improvements and a range of balance adjustments for our multiplayer community. Once we have made a bit more progress, we will also share another update for what the future holds.

Hope you enjoy the Beta - we’re looking forward to your feedback!

Here’s how you can play the Beta via Steam right now: Open Steam, right-click Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord → Properties → Game Versions & Betas → Select “beta - Beta v1.5.0”.

Please note that there may be a delay between the download of the base game and the download of War Sails. If you launch the game prior to both of them being updated, you will crash. If you face this issue, please verify your game files.

Feel free to read the full patch notes for all the details HERE.

Greetings Warriors of Calradia!

Today, we’re raising our sails to celebrate the creativity and dedication of our modding community. We're thrilled to announce the War Sails Modding Competition, running from 14 August to 22 November, with more than €30,000 in prizes up for grabs!

In collaboration with Nexus Mods and ModDB, the competition features three contests, each offering a different way to leave your mark on War Sails.

First up, the Conversion Mod Contest. Create total or partial conversion mods that utilize War Sails, taking advantage of naval campaign travel and exciting naval battles. Bring naval gameplay into different time periods, different worlds, or utilize the Native Base.

Next, the 3D Art Contest invites you to become a shipwright. Build anything from humble rowboats and hardworking merchant vessels to mighty warships built to command the seas. Your ship can come from any era, culture, or corner of your imagination.

Finally, the Scene Design Contest will challenge creators to create Seaborne Village Raid scenes. Ships strike the shore, warriors surge from their decks, and the battle for the beach begins. We’re looking for scenes that capture the chaos, atmosphere, and excitement of a coastal assault.

Community voting will follow in late November, giving everyone the opportunity to discover, play, and celebrate the creations submitted throughout the competition.

Following a period of judging by the TaleWorlds developers, we will announce the winners of the competition in January.

The legacy of these entries will also extend beyond the event itself. Conversion mods and Ships will open new horizons for War Sails players. At the same time, submitted vessels and Seaborne Village Raid scenes will be shared as open-source resources, allowing them to inspire and enrich future War Sails mods.

Join us on the Mount & Blade Modding Discord on Monday at 20:00 CEST / 18:00 GMT / 2:00 PM EDT / 11:00 AM PDT for an introductory stream about the competition.

We cannot wait to see the worlds you imagine, the ships you launch, and the shores you bring to life. Visit competition.taleworlds.com for the full competition breakdown.

Discussion Post a Bannerlord tip (I dont care how obvious it is)

Upvotes

I have almost 1000 hours in Bannerlord (rookie numbers, I know) and yet sometimes I get told something or discover something that I should have known, but I for some reason missed.

I'll give you a couple of examples of things I only learned recently. For a lot of players this is basic info, but I bet there are others who didnt know this. And please, give your own tips, I dont care how obvious they might be:

1: When talking to a lord/lady to convince them to join your faction, any progress you make gets saved. So, if I need 4 successes to convince them, and only get 2, those two succeses get saved. So if I wait a week and try to convince them again, I start at 2 successes already. You have to wait about a week or two, or else they'll just say that you tried to convince them before and they havent changed their mind. If they do, just wait longer and try again.

2: I never used to visit taverns, because I just check if theres a wanderer there from the Town menu and talk to them if I want to. But if you visit the tavern you can ask the Tavern keeper if there are other wanderers who have passed through. You'll get their names and they show up in the encyclopedia so you know what they are good at, and where they are. It costs 2 denars per tip.

3: Not only that, you can also ask the Tavern keeper about who rules the town, and you get encyclopedia info on their entire clan, and every member! Very useful when looking for a wife. it costs 500 denars, but if you have plenty of money, its worth it IMO.

Engage an army battle.

Charge through lines of enemies for 13 minutes before watching your scattered forces rout the remains of the enemy's tier 2-3 forces.

Dismount at near death, gather all scattered infantry with a follow command.

March as the center of the reforming line.

March. Slowly. Confidently. Assuredly.

Aura farm. Aura farm *hard.*

I’ve been playing Bannerlord and after a while, I’m surprisingly good at landing headshots. Especially in the Arena with bows and javelins. Here are some screenshots I took for some of my best kills.

Discussion Conquering the map was a very rewarding accomplishment

Upvotes

I wouldn't say Bannerlord is one of my favorite games ever, but I was just randomly thinking about games today, and was reflecting on my most recent playthroughs earlier this year where I created my own faction from scratch and eventually conquered the entire map on bannerlord difficulty. I play a lot of games, and I gotta say, conquering the map in Bannerlord was one of the most rewarding feelings I've had in gaming in the last few years.

It took a lot of time, patience, tactics, decision making, and general game knowledge. It really felt like I grew from a nobody, into a battle hardened veteran, and eventually into this scheming mob boss / king who had a stranglehold on the world. It was a very cool feeling.

Despite the bugs and other flaws and warts of the game, I think bannerlord nails the feeling of going from a nobody to ruler of the world better than maybe any other game I have played.

Discussion Anyone else hate when factions get destroyed? I like the idea of slow, multi-generational playthroughs but 1-2 factions always end up steamrolling.

Upvotes

I've been playing since Early Access, so I remember what it was like when factions with no fiefs just wandered around raiding villages, and that was pretty lame too. But at least they still existed in the world. Factions being destroyed and permanently losing all the clans make the idea of long playthroughs much less interesting.

I would like a mechanic where factions with 1 town left become much harder to siege, or maybe are considered less attractive to attack by the AI. Or, keep things mostly the same but have factions return to Caladria after so many years of being destroyed. They gain strength and return to take a settlement either low in loyalty/security like rebels have the chance to do.

Anything to keep as many NPCs in the world as possible. I understand this is the opposite of what some people want, so maybe make it a setting kinda like the birth/death options, ticking a box to allow for kingdom destruction or not.

My ideal BL game is one that is more or less endless without considerable player intervention. The factions fight, and there is an ebb and flow of successes/losses of fiefs, but no faction is really dedicated to the outright destruction of the other. At least for the first few years of the game, because it feels like either Sturgia or Battania are down to a single town within that time, if not outright eliminated. I just want to sit in my independent town and watch the world sim for a while without 1-2 factions owning the map in 5 in-game years.

Discussion My Wildest Side Story Yet

Upvotes

TLDR: Opened a crate ended up with a second wife and a bastard.

Background: Started a rum of scum and villainy. Wanted to add in some more intrigue to the world and used Bellum Civile and Fourberie for the first time. Saw Affairs of Calradia in the Bc mod list. AoC suggested Hot Scenes, which I saw paired with Hot Butter, and Encounters in Calradia. Add all that backstory and mods together and you get this chain of events:

- Get marriage proposal for my brother to marry Corein. I say no. Go marry her myself.
- Travel with her for a while. She bears a son. I give her her own party.
- Find a random crate in the road. IT CONTAINS A WOMAN. Wild.
- This woman - Bianca- is a unicorn. 200+ in one and two handed weapons. 180+ in charm, leadership, stewardship. Good athletics and riding. Only flaw is medicine and engineering.
- Bianca travels with me for a while. We go to tournaments and either team up and/or meet in the finals nearly every time.
- After a tournament, where I had just won a helmet and gave to her for an upgrade, I rent the tavern for my troops.
- Talk to companions. Option to tell Bianca I won the tournament for her - obviously flirty but also true, so I click. She appreciates it.
- Tell her she’s been doing a great job, also true as she’s a captain in every battle. Give her 500 denar tip.
- The next line I forget what it said but it was also flirty but seemed innocent.
- Immediately cuts a sex scene! WHAT?? No clue that was coming.
- Bianca immediately with child.
- Overcome with guilt for cheating on my wife - Super Bae Corein.
- Try to make it right and wed this woman who’s pregnant with my bastard. Make the baby legitimate.
- Corein stops being jealous.
- Next time we’re all at our castle, option for threesome.
- Obviously click to cap this unintended side quest.

lol wtf. No idea what the percent chance is to find a crate and it create the best wanderer companion in the game, but I assume it has to be rare? But 10/10 would open random crate in middle of the road, bed and wed its contents again.

Discussion 200+ hours playthrough in Bannerlord - my character's story from mercenary to Mad King

Played a modded campaign, skipped the main storyline (just to start with clan companions right away). Mod list:

  • Diplomacy
  • RTS Camera
  • Retinues
  • Improved Garrisons
  • Governors Handle Issues
  • Better Time
  • Dismemberment Plus

The logic was simple - maximum army management and customization, keeping the vanilla feel, convenience and time-saving.

The Beginning

After the tragic death of our parents, my siblings and I spent some time in Vostrum making a living through smithing and trading. As our income grew, so did our ambitions, and we eventually launched several caravans across the Southern Empire. On one of those trade runs, we were captured by bandits. Any naive dreams of a peaceful life were shattered for good. First our parents, now prisoners of outlaws.

After roughly two weeks in captivity, Nathanos and I managed to escape back to Vostrum. First order of business: free our younger brother Phasos and our sister Alea. We spent every last coin we had stashed in the city to hire a mercenary band and set out hunting for the bandits. A successful night raid on their camp and the family was whole again.

But something changed in all of us that night. We'd seen death before, but feeling the triumph of victory over two dozen enemies was something new. That same rush pushed us toward the idea of entering service with the Southern Empire as a fighting company. My older brother and I started spending serious time at the arena, competed in tournaments, and occasionally swept the area around Vostrum clean of bandits at the request of local authorities. Meanwhile Phasos and our sister kept running the trading operation.

1084-1091: From Mercenary to the Empress's Son-in-Law

After a string of small successes hunting bandit parties and some tournament wins, in the summer of 1084 we were officially hired by Rhagaea as a fighting unit during the war against the Aserai. But what really accelerated our rise was the outbreak of war with the Northern Empire. Near Saneopa, our unit alongside a few allies helped Pharon - head of the Leoparnides dynasty - survive what could have been a catastrophic defeat against Lucon's army. Pharon became my most important ally, and it was later his advocacy that pushed for land grants to our young clan. In the winter of 1086 Clan Ellianor was founded, and we were ceremoniously granted Rhesos Castle - conveniently protected on all sides by mountain passes. That same year, through a twist of fate and the support of powerful allies, I managed to marry Vasilia, my liege's daughter. I had become the Empress's son-in-law.

1092: First Successful Campaign

During the war against Lucon, several key victories earned me the support of influential noble families - from different imperial splinter factions - by helping allies and releasing defeated opponents. Assembling an army of allied lords and veteran mercenaries, I ran a successful campaign capturing Myzea, Saneopa, and Epicrotea. After the Northern Empire collapsed, Lucon fled to Battania - already battered by wars with its neighbors - and settled in Dunglanys, founding the Principality of Zanclaca. The old bastard refused to give up power even after losing everything, exploiting Battanian internal instability.

1095-1097: First Tensions with My Liege and the Triumph of the Southern Empire

Before she could even recover from the war with Lucon, my mother-in-law - with the backing of half the archons - immediately declared war on the Western Empire. The other half of the families serving the Southern Empire, including my dynasty, considered this reckless. A serious political fracture was forming inside an already weakened imperial fragment. But after assessing my resources and position, I had no choice but to submit to the will of the "future empress." My oath of loyalty was also bound by my marriage to Rhagaea's daughter. Meanwhile Garios suffered crushing defeat after crushing defeat until he finally accepted terms, holding only Zeonica.

Support from the archons of the Southern Empire kept flowing my way. Clan Ellianor's wealth and influence within the Empire continued to grow. Most of my clan's holdings were clustered relatively close together - Saneopa, Amytatis, Epicrotea, Lageta, and several castles - forming a coherent bloc. It was completely obvious this formation gave me a massive strategic advantage against Rhagaea in the event of a rebellion. The major downside: I was sitting in the middle of Calradia, surrounded by non-imperial factions to the north, east, and west.

Forced Army Reforms and Building a Personal Guard

Two drawn-out wars against imperial pretenders - plus shorter campaigns against Battania and the Aserai - gave me a sharp picture of the imperial army's strengths and weaknesses. Using my influence, I decided to reform the imperial troops recruited from my territories (this is where the Retinues mod comes in). The core focus was reforming the imperial legionaries: now equipped with heavy throwing javelins to thin enemy ranks before direct engagement, and medium cavalry armed with falxes capable of rapid repositioning across the battlefield and sustained close-quarters fighting.

The backbone of the cavalry my army needed came from Battanians - renowned for their mastery of the falx - who had refused to serve Lucon and fled south to the regions around Lageta and Epicrotea. Many entered service with my clan and allies, receiving better equipment and horses, forming a new cavalry type: the Falcarius Eques. The infantry remained largely composed of imperial recruits and legionaries, now trained in javelin throwing rather than the pilum.

Gaining influence through victories, I also slowly trained my personal guard (retinues). And yes - even during campaigns I kept smithing alongside my companions, crafting prototype weapons that would eventually form the basis of my reformed units.

1098: The Rebellion Begins

My disagreements with Rhagaea's internal and foreign policy decisions had been building for years. The success and wealth of Clan Ellianor had become a direct threat to Clan Pethros. Seeing how many nobles were behind me, I began plotting against Rhagaea. The ultimate goal was forming an independent state - breaking from outdated imperial law, fully reforming the military, overhauling foreign and tax policy for both lords and peasants. Simply put, many could see the Empire was stagnating in endless war. People needed a new idea. Not every clan of the former Empire agreed with this, especially the oldest dynasties - and that worked against me.

The conspiracy didn't last long. My liege - and mother-in-law - made it absolutely clear: there would be no new imperial split. This wasn't just about holding power and preserving Clan Pethros prestige. It was personal for Rhagaea, because my children were her grandchildren - who effectively became traitors the moment my rebellion began.

1099-1100: The New Kingdom

Using my clan's accumulated wealth and influence, in the first phase of the rebellion I managed to bring several powerful Southern Empire clans over to my side, and even some families from the other imperial fragments - former subjects of Lucon and Garios. The situation was clearly turning against Rhagaea. The reformed troops combined with Battanian mercenary archers were showing reasonable success against imperial legions on the field. Every new engagement taught me more about how to counter them and what my army needed most.

Mid-campaign, a surprise: in the summer of 1098, the Khuzait khans saw the opportunity in yet another imperial split and began raiding both my territory and Rhagaea's. Both of us were now fighting on two fronts simultaneously. Myzea fell first. Within a single year we lost almost all of the northern imperial territories - cities and castles alike - because the primary fight was still with the imperials.

In early 1100, Rhagaea conceded defeat and paid tribute to my new Kingdom of Illiada. The Southern Empire retained Onira, Lycaron, and Vostrum, while I - through successful diplomacy and campaigns - managed to hold the western and central territories of the former Empire and secure the backing of more than half a dozen powerful imperial clans.

1100-1105: Outsmarting the Khuzait

By the time the southern imperials fell, the Khuzait hordes had already swallowed most of Sturgia and half of the Aserai desert. The eastern half of Calradia was at the steppe riders' feet, and they now had their eyes on the central territories where the young Kingdom of Illiada sat. I knew we didn't have the resources for a straight war - but my nobles were demanding we push on and reclaim lost territory.

In spring of 1100 we retook Myzea, though the city was already completely looted. Fighting the Khuzait inside the walls wasn't particularly difficult. But when the battles moved to the open steppe and plains, our only real asset turned out to be the already battle-tested Falcarius Eques. Meanwhile our infantry legions and archers were melting under thousands of horse archer arrows. Unconventional solutions were needed.

Despite the Khuzait's sweeping territorial gains, there were rumors that the Khan was dealing with serious internal disputes over how to divide and govern such an enormous state. I'd heard about a specific situation - a woman named Mesui leading a clan of steppe riders who were deeply unhappy with how the Khan was running things. I decided to exploit it and sent an envoy to her Khergit clan. Negotiations were brief. Mesui agreed to swear fealty to Illiada in exchange for gold and the territories her clan had already taken.

I had no idea this would trigger the collapse of the Khuzait Khanate itself - with roughly ten clans gradually abandoning the Khan over the following years. Some served us as mercenaries guarding Illiada's borders. Others became full members of the royal council. Not every former imperial family was thrilled with my approach, but it was the only viable tactic against such a powerful enemy. Divide and conquer.

Within a couple of years we had not only reclaimed the northern former imperial territories, but also ran a successful campaign into eastern lands previously held by the Aserai, and even pushed into eastern Sturgia with the support of several northern clans that had turned on the Khan.

In 1105, at the Battle of Makeb, my 5,000-strong army - including rebel steppe riders and Sturgians - crushed Monchug Khan's horde that outnumbered us nearly two to one. The Khan's authority was shattered, and the remaining clans kept defecting - either entering our service or retreating into Aserai territory.

1105-1106: Dismantling the Empire and My Fall from Grace

After the Khanate's collapse, Illiada's nobles demanded we take the remaining imperial cities still held by the pretenders. Over a year and a half of campaigning, we deposed Garios and liberated Zeonica, then seized every city still belonging to the Southern Empire's vassals.

The final battle with the southerners was a brutal siege of Onira - its defending legionaries thinned by our heavy infantry and fire ballista strikes. After the victory, entering the throne room, I came face to face with my mother-in-law and the would-be Empress, Rhagaea. Her first words were that she no longer recognized the ambitious young man who once believed in the sacred ideals I used to stand for. She saw a tyrant willing to conquer Calradia at any cost, sacrificing everything for his goal.

The next day she was executed. The day I had once so desperately anticipated - the day any hope of the Empire surviving finally went dark. But from that day forward I never saw my wife in my chambers again. My children were ashamed to speak my name, even though I was a king. Across the kingdom and beyond, people started calling me the Mad King. Instead of the glory of a conqueror and founder of a new world, I became synonymous with cruelty and betrayal. Rhagaea had her revenge from beyond the grave.

1106-1108: The Fall of the Sultanate

The war had no end in sight anymore. I stopped lying to myself. The crack of shields splintering under falx strikes, the whistle of arrows overhead, the rumble of marching legions - this had become daily life. Sultan Unqid Banu Hulyan of the Aserai had been a decent friend of mine since my days in imperial service. But he made the mistake of trying to stab me in the back - he and his vassals decided to reclaim territories that had once belonged to their people, lands they had lost to the steppe riders, who now served my crown. My warriors had bled for that desert. The trade routes there were rivers of gold. I couldn't let the Sultan finish what he started.

I assembled 8,000 veterans and elite mercenaries and marched. Nobody sang on that campaign. Nobody chanted my name or the name of our kingdom. We were going to war for the sake of war.

The Aserai turned out to be the most brutal and cunning opponent we'd ever faced. We lost thousands in that war. Our tactics stopped working the way they used to. The core of Illiada's elite units was ground down under heavy javelins, arrows that blotted out the sun, the draining heat, and endless sand. On that campaign, hunger and thirst turned us into raiders. Savages. Every settlement met us with resistance we eventually broke.

Some clans betrayed the Sultan out of fear of what we represented. Others sold out for gold. Others wanted to hold their lands under a new ruler. The Sultan met the same fate as the would-be Empress. The south fell.

1108-1110: Oblivion

By 1107 Illiada's borders pressed against Vlandia. Derthert had been waiting for our armies since we crushed Lucon's uprising in Battania. After the Khanate fell, nearly all the northern territories the steppe riders had taken came under our control, and the surviving Sturgian princes were fighting each other over whatever scraps of independence remained. The south answered entirely to my crown. And I could no longer stop.

The voices in my head demanded a unified Calradia under a single banner. I stopped asking "why?" and started thinking "how?" The war with Vlandia began.

By then the Illiada army contained horse archers from the conquered steppe, desert mamluk cavalry, imperial cataphracts, Sturgian spearmen, Battanian falx fighters, and every variety of mercenary. We were ready to crush Derthert's knights in open battle - but I fell back on the same tried and true methods.

Gold. I was buying noble lords. Traitors, just like all the ones before them, breaking their oaths to their liege in exchange for coin and land. In my 47th year, I had learned that everything can be bought - even honor. Some eventually betrayed me and were executed or disappeared. Some still believed in the old ideals we'd built Illiada on - ideals that were spoken of less and less openly.

At the battle for Ostican, Derthert's forces outnumbered us two to one. But while the Vlandians were counting the butter in their storehouses, we had been at war for decades. We had become the embodiment of war itself. Not friends - former enemies standing in the same line to take the Vlandian west. No prisoners were taken in that battle, and the city was looted by the Khuzait mercenaries despite my orders to leave the civilians alone.

I let Derthert walk away with his life. No one ever saw him again.

A few months later we marched on Revyl - the last independent city. It looked like a blemish to me now. A dirty stain on the map of a unified Calradia. It was over quickly.

Final Entry:

The damn voices are getting louder. I need war. I've heard there's still an independent seafaring people somewhere to the north...

Discussion Why hasn’t there been a mod that adds road system yet?

Upvotes

Or am I missing out on one?
In real life, the reason some cities and castles provide strategic significance is because people have to go through roads and paths when traveling, so when they want to reach a destination, they’re bound to move past a settlement or more. This is also why armies cannot just march and conquer a castle in the heart of an enemy territory without a risk of getting their supply lines cut off.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t be able to move offroad. You should still be able to, just with a heavy penalty.
Bannerlord would benefit A LOT from a road system

I am 1300 days in, and feel like I have been at war with the Khuzait for the entire run. It’s draining, I can’t beat them.

Question How do you arrange a marriage with a noble with no family?

Upvotes

There is a noble lady in my campaign with no listed family that I would like to marry my younger brother to. When I asked her clan leader, only his daughter was an option, not this other lady with no family. Is she unavailable due to having no parents?

Tangentially related, how can this lady have no family?

Hey lads, I have never become king before ever. But I am now the leader of my own faction.
