Country Based Post Flairs

Upvotes

Many questions can be country, or at least region specific. Regulations and experiences can vary widely.

Post Flairs have been available for a while now, but few members use them when submitting a post.

Let's try to work on that.

Advice Deposit Checks by Mail

Upvotes

I recently mailed two checks for deposit into my Capital One 360 account .. using the mail address: PO Box 60, St. Cloud, MN 56302 .. as I have done previously. But, I then read online that the correct address is PO Box 85123 Richmond, VA 23285.

If that's the case, what happens to the checks mailed to St. Cloud, MN? Are they being forwarded to the Richmond, VA address for deposit and processing .. or what's up?

Advice Is it possible for a check I wrote to be returned for insufficient funds if it’s already been posted to my account?

Upvotes

I wrote a check to my landlord on Thursday and I’m going to have a negative balance for personal reasons from tomorrow through probably Friday. I see on my online transaction history that the check has already been processed and dated for this past Friday and the amount already deducted from my account. There’s no way my incoming negative balance could retroactively cause that check to be returned right? For context I bank with chase and based on the deposit info my landlord uses Wells Fargo

Advice cancelling pending transaction fb marketplace

Upvotes

So today I made a series of dumb decisions while “trying” to buy something on Facebook Marketplace from a sketchy account. I was trying to buy a PC component that was worth around $400, even though it normally sells for $1,000+. (Yes, I know it was way too good to be true, and I know it’s my fault. Please, I’m already getting an earful from my mom about it :/.)

The payment initially didn’t go through and was declined about four times (yes, I typed it in four times 😭). After the final decline, I finally came to my senses and realized it was probably too good to be true. At first, I thought, “No harm, no foul,” since the payment had been declined.

It wasn’t until I checked my messages that I saw a text from Bank of America saying that someone was trying to use my debit card. The message had the fraudulent transaction alert on it, and I ended up hitting “Verify” through the app because I thought the payment hadn’t gone through anyway.

Now the transaction is showing as processing, and I have no idea what I’m supposed to do. I checked Facebook Marketplace, but I don’t have any pending orders, so there’s no option for me to cancel it there.

I asked my mom what I should do, and she told me that I could get it sorted out at the bank. However, after reading a few threads online, it seems like the bank might not be able to do anything about it since I technically verified the transaction.

I also looked into closing my account, but apparently I can’t just close it while the transaction is still processing.

Is there anything I can do at this point? I know I messed up, so please be nice 😭

EDIT:So I had no money deducted from my account. Is that a good thing? I saw that the charges had a temporary authorization, which I understand is supposed to temporarily hold the $400 until the merchant completes the transaction. Does this mean the payment didn’t go through?

If so, why does my transaction history only show the money being returned 3 times instead of 4, considering I attempted the payment 4 times?

Advice cash check

Advice Somebody in Bangladesh linked my email to their bank account and I have never even been to Bangladesh

Upvotes

So I have been getting monthly e-statements from the Dutch Bangla bank. (I don’t live in Bangladesh. I’ve never been to Bangladesh and I have nothing to do with that country at all.) and I can see all the bank details of that person in those e-statements. I don’t know how a bank could link an email to somebody’s account without any verification. I have written to the bank and the specific branch as well. It’s been more than a month but they still have not responded and I’m still receiving those e-statements. What do I do now?

Advice New teller with hopes of getting into the fraud department

Upvotes

My FI doesn’t require a Bach degree or certifications for the entry level positions in fraud but I’d like to work on getting as prepared as possible for when a position opens up. I’m brand new to banking but love it so far and won’t be eligible to move departments for a few months anyway. Any recommended reading, tips or general advice would be greatly appreciated!

India Kotak bank account freezed after sending money

Upvotes

I recently opened a Kotak 811 account for my sister and transferred around ₹40,000 to it from my account. The money was sent in multiple transactions of ₹10,000–₹20,000 within a short period.

Soon after, the account was frozen and marked as having unusual activity. When we visited the bank branch, they refused to unfreeze the account and said that such transfers are not allowed.

The funds were legitimate and transferred by me to my sister's account. Has anyone faced a similar issue? What can be done to get the account unfreezed, and what are our options if the branch is not helping?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Kindly repost the tweet as much as possible : https://x.com/Bharat_09142/status/2096987761240940826

Advice Is 2.50% APY good for my savings as a teen?

Upvotes

Hi,

I’m 16 w/ Capital One and I want to use their 360 Performance Savings (yields 3.00% APY) but Capital One doesn’t allow me to transfer my own funds so I have to use their Kids Savings Account that earns 2.50% APY.

I have $1,773.96 in savings. Is this okay?

Edit: Yes, I do have a job

Advice Can someone explain credit card transfers to me?

Upvotes

I’ve gotten offers from Capitol One to do a balance transfer.

I’m a bit confused about it. Does it transfer the money owed to a different CC, or the amount you have left on the card?

My CCs

$9,000 owed, 0% APR until February, $1800 available
$3,000 owed, a ghastly 28% APR, $1200 available.
$0 owed, 27% APR, $1700 available.

684 credit score

Also, should I keep the one card that I paid off or close the account?

Other Why do debit/credit cards still have embossed numbers?

Upvotes

Just got a new debit card from my bank and it has embossed numbers on it. So someone can jump in time from the 90s with a carbon paper sliding machine when I buy something? The previous card from the same bank was flat, because 2026. The embossing offends me as I have a compact wallet.

Advice Is a physical check really safer than a debit card?

Upvotes

I’m a cashier, and a common thing I hear from some of the older customers who check out using a check is that they’ll “never get a debit card” because it’s less secure than a check. But… can’t someone still pull money out of your account if they know your routing and account numbers and/or have your physical checkbook? I have a debit card but I don’t typically use it anywhere but the bank itself or contactless/through Apple Pay elsewhere on some sites that don’t take my credit card. Is that an actual safety risk, or are the customers who tell me this more or less working off of outdated information?

Advice Unrecognized transactions 5 times on two different cards since January

Upvotes

I need advice on what I can do to avoid this. I have started following my accounts more closely and removed all cards from everywhere that were saved. Do I need to switch banks or something? It has happened at two different banks though. One rep told me that it is usually from the places I frequent. But the places I frequent are grocery stores and gas station. That’s it. I am considering using cash everywhere but that’s a lot of work, so that always carry sufficient amounts.

Every time I have been issued a new card and I haven’t had to pay anything for these transactions but it is getting tiring with new cards every couple of months.

Advice BofA Escalation for Closed Account

Upvotes

TL;DR: BofA closed an account for inactivity that I had just made a deposit into the day before. Then refused to reopen despite them being able to see I had a direct deposit actively pending into the account. Curious if there's any way to get the bank to help or another number to call, besides having to contact the depositor and give another account.

Hello!

BofA recently closed one of my accounts for inactivity. 2 days before that I had submitted a direct deposit to go to that account, and a day before the closure, I dropped a small amount of money into the account just to be sure it stayed open since I had known I hadn't used it in a bit. The account was on file with the depositor and changing it would have been a hassle so I just went with it.

To all the lovely people of reddit who wish to remind me that I did this to myself, thank you and I'm aware. Yes, they probably did email me, yes I probably missed it. Probably should have changed the account on file with the depositor. That said, I have no time machine and cannot go back to fix it. I figured dropping some money into the account would have prevented closure if it was pending.

Anyway, I submitted a ticket over the phone to request they reopen the account and found out today that they denied it without bothering to leave me a voicemail or email telling me that (the guy on the phone who submitted the ticket said they would). BofA says it's still pending in their system and wasn't sent back yet. They refused to just deposit it into another open account I have. Funny part is that I got fed up and said to close the accounts at the end of the call and the disclosure they read me included "we reserve the right to re-open accounts to complete pending transactions." like gee, wish you did that when i actually needed ya to lol.

Anyway, anyone have advise on what to do with the bank, maybe escalations number or something? I can contact the depositor, it's just a huge pain in the ass trying to reach them and deal with them since I cannot call them (only chat or email or whatever) and I deleted the email so long story short reaching them is hard but I'll figure out how if I have to.

TIA : )

Advice Bank of America - Retail Branch Dress Code

I was hired on as a relationship banker. What is the day to day dress code? Business casual would be nice. I'd rather not wear a suit daily as I live in SW FL and it's hotter than satans nutsack.

Advice Credit Union Denying Debit Card Fraud Claim $2000

Upvotes

Any advice is greatly appreciated
I had 3 unauthorized charges for $2000 and after initially being credited the funds as fraud, was then told it was not found in my favor. This preceded multiple disputes.
These charges were filed in mid April and I have been trying to resolve this since.

The most recent bank response

“Thank you for your message. Your fraud claim is remaining denied due to discrepancies within your claim and not enough evidence to honor the claim on your behalf. This is the information that we can provide at this time.

Most of our investigation process is done electronically, physical documentation relating to your fraud claim is minimal. Visa has granted us access to review all transactions from authorization to posting, and our information contradicts your claim of unauthorized activity.”

The 3 transactions were contactless payments, I do not know if they were with the chip or a phone payment.
They occurred at McDonalds x1 and a Square POS terminal 2x within 4 hours of each other for $30 $900 and $800. The square charges were for landscaping services.
A 4th occurred at Lowe’s after they had already flagged the charges as fraudulent and didn’t go through.

The Square vendor only exists as a Facebook page and has not been responsive. The owner of the Facebook page has an arrest record within the last month.
I failed to get any video evidence from the McDonalds as I had wrongly presumed this would be solved in my favor without it.

I filed a police report 30 days post charges and provided evidence to the bank that I was in a different city at the same time due to a medical appt, over 90 miles away.

It had been over 3 years since I had last used the debit card at somewhere that wasn’t an ATM and the card was set to expire this month.

I am ready to give up and accept defeat but maybe someone has any ideas.

Updated Info:
No distinction can be made between tap with phone vs card. One of the two squarespace transactions was made by manually entering in the card info. Further, for the square space landscaping services they entered services rendered as a previous address of mine so that may be why they believe it was my doing however I don’t live there.

Note: This is a debit card

US Ally Bank Alternatives

Upvotes

Hi!

We've been with Ally since like 2020 at least and I can't do it anymore. Without going into all of the details, their customer service has gone 10000% downhill and I have been restricted out of my funds for over 2 weeks now.

I honestly might be looking for a unicorn, I just dont know.

I'm looking for a bank with a high yield savings account, budgeting software (we really like the budgeting software that ally has and its the only reason we're considering staying with them), and *acceptable* customer service.

Bonus points would be:

The ability to make cash deposits in the Middle TN area.

Are there any banks or CU's that are actually good?

US Check Deposit Availability

Upvotes

I mobile deposit my work paychecks to Capital One every 2 weeks. Checks are same amount and deposited at roughly the same time (Friday ~9AM PST).

Typically, it takes 1-2 business days for the funds to be fully available, which is fine. However, there are some times where the funds are fully available within the hour (by 10AM).

Was just curious if anyone had any insight as to why this happens, can't seem to find any rhyme or reason behind it
