Ask Austin Recommendations for therapists and/or dietitians that specialize in treating ADULTS with ARFID?
(ARFID = avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder)
Preferably someone that takes insurance, but I’m open to self paying if necessary.

I'd ask specifically whether they treat adult ARFID, not just eating disorders in general. A lot of providers list ED treatment but mostly work with teens or anorexia, bulimia

Austin Center for Eating Disorders. With my specific type of ARFID, I find a dietitian much more helpful than the therapists but they are very familiar with ARFID and don’t treat it like anorexia. I was referred for in-patient intensive but couldn’t afford the time off work and they were a lifeline that helped me get my weight back to ok and stopped passing out ever couple hours. Happy to share more if you want to dm.

I can second them! I picked them specifically because they mentioned treating adult ARFID on the website. My therapists from there have been excellent and I’ve been able to expand the amount of foods I can eat and have less anxiety when I eat since I started seeing them.

OP, please consider inpatient treatment. ARFID and in fact, any severe eating disorder, can have long-term health issues and even be fatal. You're brave to take the first step.
