Only recently started trying to cycle on sunny days to the train station and these do my head in.

My neighbour has a Rottweiler that they don't walk. I have lived here 3 years and I've only seen the dog once, and that's because it ran out the door. When they go to work it spends all day barking inside the house. They don't have a large back garden suitable for a big dog..is this animal cruelty?

I just returned from a fabulous 2 week solo trip to Ireland. Dublin, Galway and Westport. What made it really special was I contacted a nurse I used to work with 25 years ago when she lived in the US. She now lives in Ireland again.

She spent 3 days taking me all over and really went out of her way to show me around. Even insisted on picking me up in Galway and driving me to my next accommodation in Westport (near where she lives) when I had intended to take the bus.

Although I had brought her a souvenir type shopping tote from Los Angeles and pins from our old hospital, and paid for some of our meals together, I still wanted to show my appreciation in a better way. So I just sent her a gift certificate for afternoon tea for two at Ashford Castle. And I got this reply. I feel terrible if it made her feel embarrassed! Did I commit a serious faux pas? And should I do anything else to correct it, besides how I replied?

I got message on Linked IN today with a job offer.

They counted all of the things company will do for your and how will they help you. They listed 101 "benefit" but no pay mentioned.

When I asked about pay they said something how only in 4th round interview they discuss pay and I sad no thank you and I will pass.

I told him if they do not state pay directly when asked, or better yet put it directly in job ad then I assume pay is minimum wage or barely above it and I am not interested in working for minimum wage.

And the dude called me greedy and how I only want money.

You are god damn right I only want money 🤣, but ofc I did not told him this.

After he send me email how I am greedy and only want money I replied thank you for your offer but I am not interested.

But here is what I think about all the ads that show "no pay provided"

* Your hopes and prayers do not pay my rent

* Jesus will not pay my bills

* "We are family here" will not buy me food

* "Do it for the team" will not pay for my gas

So yes, you are god damn right all I care from you is money. I do not need to be friends with you.

Literally only reason why I am accepting to see you is the money you give me. I have no other reason to come to work other then money.

So either talk money or move along.

Again, I would never talk with anyone this way but this is the way I feel.

Because I am not there to be friends with boss, I am there to work. To get paid and go home to my family and friends

Getting to the stage now where my folks are getting on a bit, but now it’s got the recent phenomenon of brain rot added into the mix. My dad, who would be fond of the pints anyway, has aged quite a bit recently, but he regularly scrolls Tik Tok and sends random reels constantly which are usually AI slop. His concentration seems to be all over the place, particularly in groups, where he will usually bounce between one person and another incoherently throughout a conversation.

Just got me thinking that it’s a relatively new thing that this generation has to contend with, as bad as it is for the younger generation, the older folk who have declining cognitive ability anyway are open to having their brains completely fried with everything else these days.

1st time in the "hairy lemon" in Dublin, high flow of people in and out, very good music, and reasonable prices compared to some nearby pubs. 4 utterly uninterested, stony faced servers behind the bar, zero smile, greeting or small chat, just order and receive and presented with the ( considering their total lack of interest ) hilariously optioned tipping suggestion handset with the following options for 10% Good, 15% Great, 20% Wow and 30% Best Service Ever. !

Odd- great selection of beers but no draught Carlsberg... Never seen a pub with Carslberg not a choice.

Is this the new standard to be presented with American style tipping options for zero added service. ?

Presumably you can read the letter L and know what it means? So there's really nothing to be gained by driving up my hole beeping at me repeatedly when I conk out and I'm trying to restart. Or perhaps driving slower than you would prefer.

Just wondering if men still buy women flowers, I’m not talking about for anniversary/ valentines/ birthday/ apology, but buying random flowers just because they look nice and they think the woman would like them?
If not, why not? Has it become an outdated tradition? Is it seen as a waste of money? If you do not buy your woman flowers is there any reasoning behind it?

A very random question, but I'm curious how many of you still buy/ support physical media, and those who don't? For the people who do, do you buy cd's, movies, vinyl etc, and for the people that do no buy physical media, would you consider starting to buy it? I personally do because I think it's cool to have and it also highlights the importance of ownership.

Why could half the day, or week not be in Irish? Or even just having the school fully Irish speaking and having English speaking schools as the minority.

Kids pick up things so easily, I think it would do wonders for fluency and getting people speaking it casually a lot more.

I recently moved to Dublin for work and the humidity here is taking a serious toll on my hair. I have naturally long, wavy hair that instantly turns into a frizzy, curly mess the second I step outside.
My morning blowouts are completely ruined before I even make it to the office, sometimes even on days when it’s not raining!

I was previously patient at a GP's office (I moved so no longer with them), they don't have a courier on certain days, so they ask you to bring your bloods to the hospital yourself, the hospital is in a different town about 20 minutes away. That's no problem, however, once a few years back, they asked me to take someone else's sample with me too, which I agreed to despite being kind of disgusted at the idea.

I thought it was a once off but now my sister has just texted me to say she's on the way to Navan hospital with her bloods and two other people's samples.

I feel like this is probably something that needs to be reported. Does this ever happen at any other GP offices? How would you report something like this?

Need a quick reality check or advice from anyone who took the PLC to UK route.
Got ~505 points in the LC. My parents expected me to do Nursing, but I realized I don't want General Nursing—my heart is set on Occupational Therapy. Since UCC OT was 566 points, I chose to decline CAO offers and enrolled in a Nursing Studies PLC at Morrison's Island, aiming for Distinctions to get into a 3-year UK BSc in OT for 2027.
Since UK degrees are 3 years, I’ll finish at the exact same time as my peers. Plus, under the Common Travel Area, Irish students get home fees, UK student loans, and the non-repayable £5,000/yr NHS grant.

The Problem:
My parents are furious and think:
1. I "failed" by turning down nursing for a "suspicious shortcut."
2. Getting 8 distinctions is impossible because "lecturers just fail you if they don't like you."
3. The NHS grant is a myth only for UK citizens.
4. I have no backup options if I mess up.

They’ve cut all financial and emotional support, leaving me completely on my own. I have €3k saved from working as a CUH hospital porter, so I can cover my upfront costs, but starting this next week with zero support feels heavy.
