Independent greengrocers

My mom's coming for a long stay next month, and she's always been weird about buying fruit and veg from the supermarket. Are there any nice independent greengrocers in the city? Because I can't think of any outside of a pretty small selection of produce at places like Rosemount Market or The Spice of Asia

Something to bear I mind. I used to be a  fresh produce buyer buying out of the Netherlands, which is a huge redistribution hub for produce coming in from spain, italy, morocco, south america etc, and then supplying more local wholesalers, who in turn supply restaurants, catering businesses and small greengrocers. It’s the same broad international supply chain supermarkets use. So unless you’re buying genuinely scottish produce that is in season like potatoes, turnips, carrots, cabbage etc then things like peppers, aubergines, citrus, melons or anything out of season, they are almost certainly imports anyway. Buying them from a small shop doesn’t somehow make the supply chain more local.

Not in Aberdeen but Inverurie has a nice local greengrocer. Might be worth the trip out if you can't find anything closer.

Rosemount market, limited fruit and veg but does probably still count

You can also find some veg from independent butchers locally. Herds for example

You could try Newton Dee shop. It's a place where disabled people live with assistance and they grow some of their own produce.

I second this; Newton Dee is what your mum is looking for. They both carry their own produce and produce from a nearby organic farm

It's worth a visit in its own right it's like a Scandinavian village set in a forest - very peaceful.

Go for a soup and bread lunch at the cafe and a little walk around the campus before you go to the shop. It's an easy morning trip..:).

It’s in Victoria Park on a Friday. It’s a non-profit charity that sells allotment fruit, vegetables, flowers and sometimes honey

There is one in Inverurie at top of high street, and the butcher's has a veg selection.   Also Mitchell's on the drive out.
