The Empty Jar Theory

This theory is specifically meant to explain the slight difference between the player Tarnished and the other Tarnished.

On the Night of Black Knives, Godwyn's soul wasn't fully destroyed. The Rune of Death that Ranni used was imperfect, and Godwyn was the strongest of the demigods in both body and spirit. Instead, his Grace lingered, scattered and waiting to return to the roots of the Erdtree.

When Marika banished the Tarnished, she didn't simply strip them of their Grace—she emptied them of it. This left them similar to the "empty jars" found in the philosophy of her Shamanic origins.

When the Tarnished died, their Grace was supposed to be returned to them, allowing them to be resurrected. For most Tarnished, this appears to have been the case.

However, for some reason, our Tarnished was moved to the Chapel of Anticipation, where their Maiden was murdered. Without their Maiden, they should not have been able to be resurrected normally.

But the "empty jar" of their body was still there, and it was very near a piece of Godwyn's body where some of his Grace lingered.

That Grace found our Tarnished and revived them.

This could explain our strange ability to continue without a Maiden, as well as our resistance to Deathroot and death-themed magicks. The lingering Golden Grace inside us starts small, but slowly grows in strength as we do.

And as that Grace grows, the demigods and other characters we encounter seem to recognize that Golden strength on some level as something belonging to a Lord.

Not necessarily Godwyn.

But Lordly Grace in a "lowly Tarnished."

I think it looks cool with these elf like boots and the horn gauntlets and with a jar helmet, it makes it look extra fashionable and I’m protected so what do you guys think?

I dont know much about the dlc quest, but I really want that shield for my build on my current run without messing up any quest or anything. If I go to get it, will I be okay? I heard that going some places can advance world states and maybe mess up a quest sometimes. Thanks!

First time playing elden ring , also my first time “souls like” . Don’t know what to expect but I’m scared and a bit excited . Going in completely blind . Any tips would be appreciated 😄.

So many options for idus knight, it’s so fun. What build did you decide on? I decided I want to use idus sword for my full playthrough and I’m trying to decide how to build around it.

I would go cold or bleed but it’s just more efficient to do that as prisoner or bandit and I want to take advantage of the extra faith. For now I decided on 1h keen sacred blade while pumping dex with rogier’s rapier on lightning slash as a mh swap. I put 1 pt into str for banished knight’s shield offhand with a swap to clawmark seal. I was thinking at lvl 150 hitting around 75 dex 25 faith for golden vow, defensive incants, and some weapon skill damage.

That 1h R2 is so juicy i want to use something that takes advantage of the double hit, but obviously with faith, status options are limited. Sacred blade is decent with the holy AR buff hitting twice. Unfortunately wing stance is in the dlc which i don’t go to until NG ends. I’ve never really used greases but could try with something like double slash maybe.

What are your guys thoughts? What build are you running for your idus knight or what would you recommend I try? :)

I don't remember how many times i killed him, bro didn't do anything wrong but to have a amazing placement beside a grace and a powerful one on that.

I recently learned about these ancient life forms and was reminded of Elden Ring’s very similar tree-like pillars underground.

I recently got Elden Ring on Switch 2. It's my first playthrough and I am about 12h in. I know PC has better graphics and 60FPS, but I mostly chose the Switch 2 version, since its easier for me to play on TV as opposed to sitting right in front of a monitor.

Now I know opinions on the performance of the Switch 2 version are controversial. Lets just say personally I find it playable, but far from good. Today it was particularly bad, it was raining in the Liurnia region just outside Stormveil Castle where the graves are and it felt like the game was running at 20FPS. Again, playable, but far from the kind of experience I would expect for an 80$ price tag. And ironically its now making me contemplate paying even more money, to be able to play the PC version instead in the hopes of a smoother experience.

Thing is from what I've heard FromSoftware games are just badly optimized in general and the PC version in particular is supposed to suffer from very bad stutters, regardless of hardware (I have an RTX3060TI and Ryzen 5 5600). I mean 60FPS cap and improved graphics would be an upgrade either way, but if the performance is still unstable, I dont think it would be worth the switch for me.

tldr: I would love to hear from people with both the Switch 2 and PC edition and compare their performance. Are the stutters on PC really that bad? Is the Switch 2 version more stable, despite the lower FPS? Or is the PC version significantly better and worth the switch?

I am trying to finish all the endings but wanted to grab a few weapons I missed in my first play through that are in the DLC. Do I need to collect more scadutree fragments or is it like the golden seeds once all are collected the rest go to storage?

Since I’ve finished the game a couple times now I’ve taken to just letting myself be summoned and helping people, I’ve made an entire build around it with the goal of me being the tank and taking aggro from bosses, so with this saying it “constantly attracts aggro” I figured it’d be a good pick, but I swear it just doesn’t work. Does it not work if there’s multiple players or only in specific boss fights or…?

the build is awesome! alotta spell variety the best seal of the game. sword of night and flame too, so very fun!
i also love discus of light its such an awesome spell and i liked my time with the Idus swords too!

though like every playthrough it ends on a bitter note because i hate elden beast:

-i find it incredibly annoying constantly chasing it down and it moving away from me
-i hate that its resistant to every type of magic and immune to all status meaning most builds get fucked over and dont get to really be good for the final boss.
-i hate the undodgeable (ik you can technically avoid it but nobody will lets be honest) elden stars
-i hate getting animation trapped too.

radagon is good tho and i get to play the dlc with rellanas twinblades wich will be fun!

It's not really a huge part of my video but between my weapons not doing much and the very clar pattern changes, hopefully my frustration is understood. Keep in mind my claws are like level 18 at this point and my strength is at 40 and dex at 20

hi, elden ring is my first soulslike and i still haven't understood everything about fighting sistem. im now stuck at the fire giant. i am at level 100, with 39 vigor, 38 dexterity, 25 faith and 30 arcane. im using godskinpeeler+17 in the right hand and eleonora's pole blade+7 in the left hand. as talismans i have radagon scarseal, Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom, Winged Sword Insignia and flamedrake talisman+1. as incantation i use golden vow, flame give me strength and bloodflame blade. am i under levelled or is it skill issues? thank you
