My little Saarloos Wolfdog is already seven months old.
I feel like she gets more beautiful and confident every day.

Please forgive me I still haven't sent off the Embark test, but I’ll try to remember to do it. It’s a bit complicated with customs, too.

Do you still think she could be a higher content?

Firion, 95+% wolf high content, arctic.... And 44 lbs 😭

I don't think they are but if so, low content would be my guess! Those eyes scream husky to me.

Like he is majestic af looking but I know behind those pretty blue eyes ain't nothing but two braincells fighting for third place.

Luckily her surgery to remove the uterus went well. She's higher than a kite right now haha. Hopefully she will be herself soon!

Hello! This is Mögi. I was told he was a MalamutexGSD when I adopted him from the shelter. They said they had an Embark done. When I switched Vets, they called to say they got his records and asked if I was aware that he has 23% Grey Wolf in him. I was not. They informed me that the FDA hasn't approved rabies shots for wolf dogs and although he'll get a rabies shot regardless, if he were to bite another dog or person, repercussions may be a bit more extreme compared to dog-dogs. Ie: euthanasia. I won't post again until I get another genetics test for him to know for sure that the vet/Embark is accurate since I don't seem to have access to these records. I have vet records indicating he's a wolf dog but not the Embark results themselves.

Mögi is not aggressive. At all. I'm not worried about the safety of other animals or people but other dogs tend to show a lot of fear aggression towards him. I'm not sure if it's his size (he's huge), his disability (he's a tripawd - born with a severe deformity of his right foreleg) or if they smell something "off" about him.

Has anyone here run into a similar experience? I've looked up wolf dogs and rabies shots and what the vet said seems accurate for higher content Wolfies but Mögi has less than a quarter wolf in him - supposedly. I'm still not convinced, based on his personality. He does share a few wolf phenotypes but so do a lot of northern breeds.

Oona is 1.5 yo and can not be put in a car. She panics, poops everywhere, vomits everywhere, then it gets all over her fur while she’s panicking and then when I try to let her out it open the trunk she wants to bolt as far from the car as possible so I can’t even clean it up. I have to wrestle her back in after a hike (and she’s bigger than I am), then clean it at home and hope she rolls in enough sawdust/sand she can shake out the majority of the mess because she also hates baths. Its hell. I want her to be able to walk on quiet trails, woods, lake, etc— I can’t even get her to the vet, so I had to find a home vet.

At home, we live in a neighborhood and she is runs/does zoomies off leash in the open field and walks to her two safe streets the. Is ready to go home. I feel like she’s not getting nearly enough exercise, but she also is setting the limitations herself.

The last time I did manage to take her to a (quiet unpopulated) trail, we had a two hour walk, wonderful experience, but the car there and back again ruined it. She still won’t come within 10 ft of a car.

Is anyone else’s WD like this??

Last friday Koda had some discharge. Went to the emergency vet and they gave her antibiotics.... which worked for a couple of days. Discharge was gone and her energy was back to normal.

Yesterday I noticed the discharge came back and her energy went back down, so I immediately called the vet we normally go to. Today Koda got her ultrasound at another vet, and it is indeed her uterus that has the infection. As far as they could tell it is not severe, but ofcourse still needs surgery.

Called the vet we usually go to and they say the earliest she can come is Monday, which I am not comfortable with. So I called the vet where she got her ultrasound and Koda will get surgery to have her uterus removed tomorrow morning.

In my last post I got a lot of questions why I didn't spay Koda sooner, which I want to answer.

First of all, Koda is not even 2 years old, and spaying a large breed this early is not good for their growth. Pyometra at this age is also very very rare.

Second of all, I would've loved to have a litter with Koda. Here in The Netherlands registered Tamaskans need to be atleast 3 years old before they could have their first litter. There are also a lot of tests she would need to do before she could actually breed as a registered Tamaskan, and those start at around 1,5 years old.

I really hope the surgery goes well tomorrow, but I am really nervous!

Cecil is 6 months old now and we're still struggling with training. He's very smart and catches on to new things quickly - he knows sit, down, wait and paw. But when it comes to learning to not do something I'm at a complete loss.

He understands that he should pee and poop outside and does so very quickly when we go out but doesn't understand not to also do that in the house. This is our number one concern because it limits his freedom because he's either tethered to me or crated.

We've tried a few methods to not pull on the leash but they've mostly resulted in other weird behavior. One trainer said to keep treats next to us and feed him as he walks next to us but this just results in him pulling away and then coming back and wanting treats for a bit before pulling again. Another said to do very quick turns so he learns to pay attention to where I'm walking and he will follow after about 10 minutes of doing that but we start over every single walk. I don't care about him being in a heel, I just can't have him pulling everyone.

They've also suggested various things to redirect him from mouthing like giving him a toy, saying "ow" very loud, popping a prong collar - none work. I have no idea how to teach him anything along the lines of no/enough. Even when teaching him not to counter surf he understands that "off" means get off the counter but will wait a minute and then do it again.

Please give me any recommendations. I'm willing to try anything and at this point I'm considering a board and train. I've trained GSD and husky puppies but it was nothing like this.

So this was a dog my fiancé and I intended on fostering to keep but ultimately rehomed to the BEST family for her (she has 4 human siblings she adores 🥹)- that being said these are the only pics I have of her. Since finding this sub I keep wondering what on earth she was mixed with!! Some of the dogs posted have her exact coloring & face which made me wonder if we were wrong to say "husky x GSD"

I know it's kinda impossible to tell exactly what she is based on photos but curious if any of yall think we got it wrong. She was found on the street at 8 weeks old so we always just guessed husky & GSD based on her build + behavior (insanely vocal + fairly destructive when bored or anxious)

Found this girl on the side of the road a few years ago. Unfortunately after the end of my marriage I left her with my ex, as she has no family in the state. Best dog I ever had.

The sole wolfdog sanctuary located in Canada. This is from the Interactive Tour last weekend

This tour includes a visit with the Yamnuska pack which is the only group at the sanctuary where the dogs are comfortable enough with people to be touched (all humans must be seated and approached by the dogs themselves, and they brief you on acceptable behaviour during the tour).

There’s one other enclosure where you can go in during this tour, but you are only allowed to toss treats to the wolfdogs.

They have lots of educational material, beautiful trails, and even programmed enrichment activities where you can watch the keepers provide activities for the wolfdogs while they talk about their stories. The magpies seemed to love all the snacks, too.

I was really impressed by how much care their team puts into each wolfdog, and I can definitely see why they say that the vast majority of people are simply not qualified to take them on. This has long been on my bucket list and it was such an awesome experience.
