Sebuah minimarket di Desa Cihideung Ilir, Kecamatan Ciampea, Kabupaten Bogor, menjadi sasaran aksi penyegelan oleh puluhan warga pada Sabtu (29/8/2026) siang. Persoalan legalitas pengelolaan lokasi menjadi alasan utama di balik aksi tersebut.

Warga memasang spanduk berukuran besar di area minimarket sebagai bentuk protes. Mereka mempersoalkan kegiatan usaha yang masih berlangsung meski masa legalitas pengelolaan lokasi tersebut disebut telah berakhir sejak 2016.

Perwakilan warga, Sambas Alamsyah, mempertanyakan bagaimana minimarket tersebut dapat terus beroperasi hingga sekarang. Terlebih, menurut informasi yang diperoleh warga, pemerintah desa tidak mengetahui adanya proses perpanjangan legalitas.

"Ini justru menjadi pertanyaan kami, kenapa bisa ada di bangunan tersebut sementara Bapak Kades sendiri tidak tahu perpanjangannya seperti apa, legalitasnya seperti apa," kata Sambas.

Kepala Desa Cihideung Ilir, Ilman, membenarkan adanya persoalan mengenai masa berlaku pengelolaan lokasi tersebut. Kepastian itu, menurutnya, diperoleh setelah dilakukan pengukuran oleh tim Badan Pertanahan Nasional (BPN) bersama dinas terkait dari Pemerintah Provinsi Jawa Barat.

Dari proses tersebut, pemerintah desa mengetahui bahwa masa pengelolaan tempat oleh pihak berinisial EM telah berakhir sejak 2016.
"Dan sekarang 2026, artinya kegiatan operasi usaha di sini, di tempat ini, berjalan tanpa izin," ujar Ilman.

Warga Ingin Lokasi Dimanfaatkan untuk KDMP
Di tengah persoalan tersebut, warga mengusulkan agar bangunan dan lahan minimarket dialihkan untuk kepentingan Koperasi Desa Merah Putih. Pemerintah Desa Cihideung Ilir juga telah mengajukan permohonan pemanfaatan aset tersebut untuk program KDMP.

Menurut Ilman, pengajuan itu menjadi bagian dari upaya desa mendukung program pemerintah pusat sekaligus mengoptimalkan aset agar manfaatnya dapat dirasakan masyarakat setempat.

"Kami sudah mengajukan permohonan aset ini untuk dijadikan Koperasi Desa Merah Putih," katanya.
Pemerintah desa kini berharap Pemprov Jawa Barat dapat menindaklanjuti persoalan pengelolaan lokasi tersebut sekaligus mempertimbangkan usulan pemanfaatannya sebagai Koperasi Desa Merah Putih sesuai prosedur dan ketentuan yang berlaku.

So, gather round, because what you’re about to read is the ongoing, absolutely unhinged, still-unfolding saga that I have cheekily decided to call the “Fifth War of Javanese Succession” (yes, I’m fully aware I’m being dramatic, and no, I will not stop). Like seriously buckle up, this goes deep.

As some of us might know, the Javanese way of doing succession can be quite complicated indeed (which explains why there are not one, not two, but three major succession wars in the 18th century), as well as a long dispute between these two claimants' father Sri Sunan Pakubuwana XIII Hangabehi (yes he's also called Hangabehi, it's a Javanese courtly thing) and Prince Tedjowulan (now Panembahan Agung Tedjowulan, Mahapatih of Surakarta) between 2004-2012.

See basically, when a king (or in Surakarta's case, the formal title is Sunan/Susuhunan) fails or simply did not choose a primary queen consort (*garwa padmi*), then there is no formal crown prince. Therefore by order of precedence, the eldest son takes the throne. however, for any *garwa padmi* to even be appointed, the consort must be of noble birth (not a commoner). this, generally, is the accepted rule in Mataram (Surakarta, Yogyakarta, Mangkunegaran, Pakualaman) courtly culture.

key to the problem in this dispute is:

1. HRH Suryo Suharto, Prince Hangabehi (originally Prince Mangkubumi before the 2022 customary name change procession to signify precedence given that "Prince Hangabehi" is a title bestowed upon eldest sons of kings), is the eldest son of Sri Sunan Pakubuwana XIII (also previously called Prince Hangabehi prior to taking the throne). however, his mother, Lady Winari, separated with Prince Hangabehi prior to him becoming Sri Sunan Pakubuwana XIII. That makes Suryo Suharto (now Prince Hangabehi) technically ineligible for the throne, as he was never the son of a king's consort, just the wife of a prince.
2. HRH Suryo Aryo Mustiko, Prince Purbaya/Purboyo (in 2022 was also bestowed, disputedly, the crown prince title Prince Hamangkunagara Sudibya Rajaputra Narendra ing Mataram —yeah, try to get that roll off the tongue haha), is the younger son of Sri Sunan Pakubuwana XIII. however, his mother, Lady Asih, is of low birth, a commoner. This alone makes Lady Asih's instalation as queen consort—*garwa padmi*— in 2022 alongside Prince Purbaya's installation as crown prince, illegitimate. But then, you might say, he's still the only son of a king's consort, right? Well...this gets complicated. See, Suryo Mustiko was born in 2002, yet Prince Hangabehi (later Pakubuwana XIII) only married Lady Asih in...2004. Yeeahh...that can't be right, right? But apparently that is the case. There are rumors also speculating in courtly circles which have now reached the public that Suryo Mustiko is not even the son of Prince Hangabehi, but instead the son of his brother, Prince Benowo, with Lady Asih. The resemblance between Prince Benowo and Suryo Mustiko is also...uncanny so that doesn't help Prince Purboyo much.

So, in the truest Javanese court customs, neither are eligible for the throne. The throne should then pass to one of the late Sunan's brothers, right? Settled, simple. Weell...remember that time I mentioned when Prince Tedjowulan disputed the throne against his older brother Prince Hangabehi? Yeah. After a lengthy conflict with these two, none of the other brothers of the late Sunan are really that interested in taking the throne anyway. Prince Puger, a younger brother of Prince Hangabehi, once remarked that he was ready to take the throne if needs be, but recently remarked that throne disputes are "something for those who still have something to prove" (not exact quote but basically goes along that way). He has been living a more modest, peaceful off-court life. Other brothers of the late Sunan have thrown their weight around the two contenders Prince Hangabehi (Suryo Suharto) and Prince Purboyo (Suryo Aryo Mustiko); namely, Prince Tedjowulan and Prince Madukusumonegoro on Prince Hangabehi's side, while Prince Benowo—for increasingly suspicious reasons— and Prince Dipokusumo stand on Prince Purboyo's side.

In short, the actual succession rules have, in fact, been mostly abandoned, and it's now a full-out "war of succession" based on who can get the most support and has the most resources—political, financial, cultural, you name it.

At this stage of the "war," it appears that Sri Sunan Pakubuwana XIV Hangabehi has now gained the upper hand over Sri Sunan Pakubuwana XIV Purbaya. Hangabehi, with the backing of a majority of the extended royal family, court elders, court servants, the largest court symphatizers group PAKASA (an organization founded by the great Sri Sunan Pakubuwana X to gather support for the court—now providing Hangabehi with manpower and deep institutional knowledge), the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Culture, as well as an increasingly positive reception among the general public, now holds the "keep" (the actual palace) through the Ministry of Culture handing custodianship of the palace (for revitalization projects) to Prince Tedjowulan, who has now sided with Lembaga Dewan Adat (LDA —Institution for the Council of Customary Laws) Keraton Surakarta.

LDA, here, is a key player. It is spearheaded by Lady Moeng, a sister of the late Sunan, as well as Prince Tedjowulan and others. Lady Moeng and her LDA have been the ones behind Prince Hangabehi's renaming from "Prince Mangkubumi" to "Prince Hangabehi" in 2022, a move specifically done in defiance of the installation of Prince Purboyo as crown prince with the title "Prince Hamangkunagara Sudibya Rajaputra Narendra ing Mataram." The installation of Prince Purboyo as crown prince, they argued, was illegitimate as there exists not a customarily sound *garwa padmi*. They argued that Prince Mangkubumi, who was then renamed as Prince Hangabehi to assert his precedence as the eldest son, is the rightful heir. This, of course, is dubious, but with no one else challenging for the succession due to exhaustion over the past conflict, parties to the dispute remain simply Prince Hangabehi (supported by LDA) and Prince Purboyo (supported by Lady Asih and her camp).

Then, came the massive switch. Princess Timur and her two sisters, the three eldest daughters of Sri Sunan Pakubuwana XIII from his first wife, were initially siding against Lady Asih, as Lady Asih had been keeping them out of court during their father's long illness (there's an entire chapter on this controversy, literally involving Princess Timur *breaking into the palace*). But somewhere along the line, the three daughters, led by Princess Asih, switched teams to Lady Asih and Prince Purbaya's camp, leaving Prince Hangabehi with only his sister from the same mother, Princess Putri, to support him—alongside LDA, of course.

And this is also where it gets movie-like. As the stories have it, Prince Hangabehi and Princess Putri has also been long-estranged from the rest of the core royal family. Reportedly, this was Lady Asih's doing to isolate them. Prince Hangabehi also reportedly didn't finish university education due to that machinations of Lady Asih, with all the money going to her son, Prince Purboyo, who btw had a lavish 17th birthday celebration at a fancy hotel all while the Keraton's walls are falling down due to years of disrepair despite money flowing to the personal bank account bearing the name Pakubuwana XIII (who was again, severly impaired due to illness, btw) for Keraton maintenance and revitalization. Prince Purboyo, as of now, is also doing a master's degree study in Gadjah Mada University, one of the most prestigious universities in the country, despite some of his bachelor's degree study friends from Diponegoro University noting him as usually being a "free-rider" in group projects. Oh, he also got a fancy Pajero car, despite Hangabehi only owning a Kijang—an old car.

Prince Purboyo is also a controversial figure. in 2023, with his Pajero car (see, this car is an important detail I assure you), got involved in a highly-publicized hit and run incident. He was driving the car and hit a motorcyclist just outside Keraton gates. The case ended with an out-of-court 'peaceful' settlement. The Pajero then became a symbol of his infamy. Then in 2025, amid massive anti-government protests, Prince Purboyo posted on his Instagram story, remarking that he regrets the Keraton's decision to join the Republic since they only get "lied to." This, of course, sparks outrage and speaks to his character as being, as I would put it, an entitled little brat.

Fast forward to 2025, the long disease-ridden Sunan Pakubuwana XIII finally passed away. Now, just before his body got cold, right in front of the guests attending the late Sunan's funeral, Prince Purboyo proclaims himself as the rightful Sunan Pakubuwana XIV. This provoked the LDA to hold a later, separate investiture ceremony (not enthronement, it's...kinda different here) for Prince Hangabehi as Sunan Pakubuwana XIV. In this ceremony, Prince Tedjowulan and Prince Puger were present, however later afterwards Prince Tedjowulan, Mahapatih of Surakarta—technically the *ad interim* monarch, whatever that means— remarked that he didn't have prior knowledge that the event, which was supposed to only be a normal family gathering post-the late Sunan's death, was in fact, an investiture ceremony.

The day after, Prince Purbaya's camp held an enthronement ceremony. This enthronement ceremony, however, was noted by Lady Moeng and LDA, as illegitimate. The ceremony lacked many key processions, especially *Bedhaya Ketawang* dance—a court dance specifically performed only during enthronement ceremonies and performed by 9 dancers (with Kanjeng Ratu Kidul herself typically appearing as the 10th dancer, according to tradition), as well as attendance by the three other Mataram courts (Yogyakarta, Mangkunegaran, and Pakualaman). Prince Puger would later also remaked that the ceremony was held to hastily, since it wasn't even 40 days (a crucial number in Indonesian culture) after the death of the late Sunan. But alas, Prince Purboyo was no more, now he is Sri Sunan Pakubuwana XIV...or so he thought. The "Fifth War of Javanese Succession" (the "fourth" being the aforementioned Hangabehi—PB XIII—vs Tedjowulan dispute) has just begun.

Not long after Purboyo's enthronement, Prince Hangabehi, or as some would put it, "Pakubuwana XIV Hangabehi" begun appearing in Friday prayers at the Surakarta Royal Mosque. Seven Fridays did he prayed there, a customary requirement for enthronement, it is said. Crowds came by to see this long-estranged prince. Many of them, the size of which grows each Friday. By the last Friday of this 'campaign', Hangabehi, accompanied by dozens of court servants, all wore white, evoking a radition once performed by the esteemed Sri Sunan Pakubuwana X when he once walked the grounds of the Royal Mosque for Friday prayers. Hangabehi's warm, down-to-earth personality dazzles the public, long disinterested to Keraton Surakarta due to the late Sunan's lack of public appearance and Purboyo's conceited attitude. By this point, it becomes increasingly clear: Hangabehi is here to stay.

Hangabehi then did a tour of historic mosques across Surakarta, ones built by previous monarchs such as Pakubuwana X, then to the ground zero of Islamic expansion in Java itself, Demak Great Mosque. His visits continue to draw crowds, all while the best that Purboyo could do was...shamefully, becoming an honorary member of GRIB, a notorious "mass organization" that is basically a mafia network—yes this is a common thing in Indonesia, btw. Of course GRIB is an organization led by the infamous mob boss Hercules, a close confidant of President Prabowo Subianto. Should've given Purboyo's camp the edge, eh? Well, apparently not.

Much later, the Indonesian Minister for Culture, Fadli Zon, came to invite the two parties for discussion on who gets to manage the state's funding for Keraton Surakarta revitalization project. Purboyo's camp refused to attend all meetings, insisting that the government has failed to properly address Purboyo as "Pakubuwana XIV." The Ministry clapped back, stating that they only use the actual ID card names for invitations. Then a funny legal battle ensued, with Purboyo's camp finally getting legal recognition of his ID card name change to "Pakubuwono Empat Belas" (Pakubuwono Fourteen)—yes, in that exact form of writing since the government does not accept "XIV" as part of a legal name. But this was, in fact, to no avail.

By January 2026, Minister Zon has made his decision. The keys to the Keraton revitalization project, and therefore, custodianship of the Keraton itself as a cultural asset, shall go to...Prince Tedjowulan. Wait what? Well there's a good reason. First off, Tedjowulan is technically the *ad interim* monarch—again, whatever that means. This was a position that he got as a compromise to him conceding the title of Sunan Pakubuwana XIII way back in 2012—alongside him being granted the made-up title "Panembahan Agung" which is basically one rank below "Sunan"—, with Tedjowulan being the *Mahapatih*—equivalent to "prime minister" but I mean, come on, this cultural institution needed not a "prime minister "right—of the Keraton. You could say that Tedjowulan technically becomes a "regent" here. Luckily for Hangabehi, this time, Tedjowulan works with LDA by his side, so Hangabehi becomes a key "figurehead" for this new Keraton administration with Tedjowulan deciding to just be the handler of administration, he's basically done with all the pomp and circumstances stuff already—wait so he *does* finally become a proper prime minister!

But it was also in January 2026 that some violence actually broke out. With the LDA taking over the palace from Purboyo's camp—they have changed locks and effectively put the palace in lockdown to keep LDA from coming in—in light of Fadli Zon's visit to announce custodianship of the palace to Panembahan Agung Tedjowulan, clashes broke out between LDA's mass and Purboyo camp's mass—allegedly made up of those GRIB members. After LDA managed to break into the palace, Princess Timur and Lady Moeng then met head-to-head, Princess Timur's voice grew louder with every word. Honestly, this was cinema. Princess Timur even once barred Minister Zon from speaking to utter her disappointment and disapproval of the Minister's decision, asserting that the Keraton has a king and it's Purboyo. The Minister remains unfazed, and the formal ceremony continued with Tedjowulan being finalized as the prime custodian of the palace. Purboyo's camp, effectively, lost control of the palace.

Under the auspices of Panembahan Agung Tedjowulan, Pakubuwana XIV Hangabehi, Lady Moeng, and LDA, Keraton Surakarta's revitalization project began to move at full steam. After years of disrepair (severely, in fact—with literal plants having overgrown some old dilapidated structures looking like a lost ancient civilization) and mismanagement under Pakubuwana XIII (or, perhaps, the ones actually "managing" the Keraton while the king was ill), works are finally being put to restore the palace which once had an imperial aura under Sri Sunan Pakubuwana X, the famed "Emperor of Java." The speed of this revitalization eventually began to put into question where the money that was flown into the previous court administration's coffers all those years...went. Why now, under Tedjowulan and LDA, the funds can be utilized so quickly and effectively with so many ongoing projects at the same time, whereas then, the palace seemed like it was destined to be a forgotten ancient ruin?

Then came the first night of Suro, a sacred month in Javanese calendar, with that very first night usually seeing a massive courtly parade over the city of Surakarta. This procession is a sacred one in Javanese tradition, with court heirlooms being paraded all over the city. Two processions were held. One by Hangabehi's camp, and another one by Purboyo's camp. Hangabehi, in typical fashion of his, walked alongside the heirlooms and court servants, whereas Purboyo...in a surprising twist, sat inside his Pajero car, with its tinted windows closed. The Pajero is not a heirloom, yet it is a central part of his royal procession that night. What a move by Purboyo, really.

See, in the traditional Javanese way of looking at things, *wahyu keprabon* (the divine mandate to rule) is often judged by the public through visible acts of spiritual devotion and adherence to custom. By physically walking the entire route of Kirab Malam 1 Suro, Hangabehi delivered a stark visual statement to Solo that, in the eyes of his supporters, cemented his identity as the true successor to the throne of Surakarta.

Fast forward again to just last month. Sekaten season arrived—a month-long celebration of Prophet Muhammad SAW's birth— characterised usually by the holding of public fairs in the Alun-alun—city square. and with it the purest distillation of the dualism that had come to define Keraton Surakarta. Two Sekaten fairs. Two Alun-Aluns. Two claims to the sacred gamelan. Sekaten Lor versus Sekaten Kidul.

Hangabehi’s camp, under the LDA and with the practical backing of Panembahan Agung Tedjowulan’s custodianship, claimed the northern square —Alun-Alun Lor— the traditional, historically continuous space connected directly to the Great Mosque where the two pairs of Sekaten gamelan have always been sounded. Their fair opened earlier, with rides going up by early July, and they framed it as the legitimate continuation of the court’s calendar. Purboyo’s side took the southern square, Alun-Alun Selatan, starting a little later, insisting that theirs was the true Sekaten because \*their\* Sinuhun had never authorized the northern one. The city government, caught in the middle, issued permits to both and largely stayed silent. Solo residents, for their part, simply attended whichever fair was closer or cheaper. The dual Sekaten became less a theological crisis than a practical inconvenience with better food stalls on one side and louder music on the other.

Then came the Miyos Gongso—the ceremonial bringing-out of the sacred gamelan Kyai Guntur Madu and Kyai Guntur Sari. Hangabehi’s court servants moved the instruments from the palace complex to the Bangsal Pagongan near the Great Mosque. Purboyo’s camp, led visibly by Princess Timur, arrived to protest. What followed was the predictable cinema: raised voices, shoving, a brief melee in which at least one court servant from the Hangabehi side claimed to have been beaten. Princess Timur declared the removal of the gamelan an act of theft committed without the permission of the rightful Sunan—of course to her, it's Purboyo. Within days, her camp filed a formal police report against LadyMoeng and LDA for theft, embezzlement, and unlawful possession of three sets of royal gamelan (the two Sekaten instruments plus the Monggang Ageng). Hangabehi’s side filed counter-reports for assault. Police took statements, requested visums, and examined CCTV. The instruments remained where Hangabehi’s people had placed them. The gamelan, like the palace keys months earlier, had changed hands in the only way that still mattered: physical control backed by the Ministry’s earlier decision.

Grebeg Maulud followed the same script. Two processions, carefully staggered by mutual (if grudging) agreement to avoid open street fighting. Hangabehi’s Grebeg went out first. He walked with the gunungan. Court servants in traditional dress surrounded the mountains of food offerings. And then—the detail that resonated with the public more than any legal argument— Hangabehi’s side performed the *sebar udik-udik*, the scattering of coins and small change to the crowd. It was the old gesture of royal largesse, the visible sign that the ruler still fed the people. Purboyo’s Grebeg followed later the same day. His side also produced gunungan. They also had...some court servants, many of them are actually from a martial arts community, I suppose? Certainly not the usual ones judging from their uniforms and the way they shakily carried the gunungan—like it tilted quite a lot I was worried it would fall off.

By early September the institutional momentum had become irreversible. On 5 September 2026, inside the palace that Tedjowulan and LDA now controlled, Hangabehi underwent the full enthronement ceremony. The sequence was meticulous: *ruwatan* the day before, final rehearsal of the *Bedhaya Ketawang*, night prayers and *ikrar* at the Paromosono mosque, then the public procession the next morning. He stood barefooted on the *Watu Gilang*—a sacred stone in Javanese courtly traditions, recited the traditional formula of accession, took his place on the dampar, and watched the nine dancers of the *Bedhaya Ketawang*—some said they see 10 dancers, Kanjeng Ratu Kidul joining in then, I suppose. Representatives from other Mataram courts and a number of Nusantara rulers were present. The ceremony that Purboyo’s side had rushed in November 2025 without the full ritual apparatus was now performed, months later, with every traditional requirement observed. Purboyo’s camp dismissed it as mere “documentation” for the Ministry of Culture’s revitalization paperwork. The public, and more importantly the court servants and the extended family still aligned with the LDA, treated it as the real thing. Prince Hangabehi is no more, only Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwana XIV

As of this writing, the dispute I cheekily termed as the "Fifth War of Javanese Succession"—for dramatic purposes— has tilted decisively in Hangabehi’s favor. He holds the palace. He holds the heirlooms. He has performed the required 7 consecutive Friday prayers at the Royal Mosque, led the Kirab 1 Suro on foot, led the Grebeg Maulud procession complete with sebar udik-udik, and the complete enthronement ceremony. The Ministry continues to deal with Tedjowulan as custodian and with Hangabehi as the recognized cultural figurehead. Purboyo retains the official Instagram of Keraton Surakarta (@kraton.solo), a core of family supporters (most prominently Princess Timur), the ability to stage parallel ceremonies on the southern square, and a legal name change on his identity card—though Hangabehi now hold exclusive legal trademark over the full title "Sampeyandalem Ingkang Sinuhun Kanjeng Susuhunan (SISKS) Pakubuwana XIV." What he no longer holds is the physical or institutional center of the Keraton.

In the long, exhausting tradition of Mataram succession disputes, that is usually enough. The "war" is not formally over —dual claims rarely end with a single clean surrender— but the balance of force, ritual legitimacy, government recognition, and popular perception now rests with Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwana XIV Hangabehi.

The enthronement ceremony of KGPH Hangabehi as Sri Sunan Pakubuwana XIV has further solidifed the ongoing royal dispute over the title, with KGPH Purboyo having been enthroned last year.

Some important things to note:

1. Pakubuwana XIV Hangabehi's enthronement (jumenengan) process has been claimed by Lembaga Dewan Adat (LDA) Karaton Surakarta as being the legitimate one per ancient customs and traditions (paugeran) with the preceeding customary (adat) requirements for enthronement have all been completed. Indeed, the process, for anyone following this, has been long and complex, with many steps needing to be completed prior to formal enthronement.
2. Pakubuwana XIV Hangabehi's enthronement ceremony has also been noted as being complete, with the required Tarian Bedhaya Ketawang, a court dance specifically performed only during enthronement ceremonies and performed by 9 dancers (with Kanjeng Ratu Kidul herself typically appearing as the 10th dancer, according to tradition), being included in the ceremony. The enthronement of Pakubuwana XIV Purboyo has been noted as being illegitimate and incomplete due to the absence of the dance.
3. Pakubuwana XIV Hangabehi's enthronement ceremony was also noted as being attended by representatives of other Catur Sagotra courts (Keraton Yogyakarta, Puro Mangkunegaran, Puro Pakualaman), which were notably absent in Pakubuwana XIV Purboyo's enthronement, a key loophole in legitimacy claims. Representatives from multiple other traditional Nusantaran kingdoms (many of them the traditional monarchs themselves) also attended Pakubuwana XIV Hangabehi's enthronement, such as the Radya of Sumedang Larang, the Raja of Karangasem Bali, the Raja of Bolaang Mongondow, and a representative from Kanoman Cirebon.
4. A year on, the dispute continues with the Hangabehi camp now having the upper hand. After Fadli Zon's Ministry of Culture handed the keys to Keraton Surakarta revitalization project to Panembahan Agung Tedjowulan back in January 2026, the Panembahan Agung has been working closely with Pakubuwana XIV Hangabehi and Gusti Moeng's LDA to oversee the revitalization project. At the moment, the project is progressing well, putting into question where all the revitalization fund went during the tenure of Pakubuwana XIII when the Keraton went through significant disrepair due to an allleged misuse of funds, allegedly done by parties associated with Pakubuwana XIV Purboyo's mother, Gusti Asih.
5. Gusti Asih has been at the center of the controversy as well. Gusti Moeng, a sister of the late Pakubuwana XIII, and leader of LDA, has been quite vocal in voicing that Gusti Asih was using the sickly Pakubuwana XIII to made herself as garwa padmi (permaisuri*, primary consort*) and install KGPH Purboyo as crown prince, despite Pakubuwana XIII, allegedly, possessing no ability to make sound judgement due to illness and isolation from the extended royal family and adat community. The LDA has deemed that the previous installment of Gusti Asih as primary consort and KGPH Purboyo as crown prince was illegitimate as per ancient customs, and thus has, since 2022, championed KGPH Mangkubumi -renamed in 2022 by the LDA as KGPH Hangabehi- as the rightful heir.
6. Public reception has been skyrocketingly warm for Pakubuwana XIV Hangabehi. The claimant to Sunan title has been noted for his warm personality, deep respect and interest for culture, and active participation in revitalizing Keraton Surakarta as a chief cultural institution in Java. His oversight over the current Keraton Surakarta revitalization project has been noted as a key plus point, among other things such as properly handling the usual courtly ceremonies such as Sekaten, Malam 1 Suro, among others. His repeated meetings with Fadli Zon (whereas Pakubuwana XIV Purboyo is repeatedly absent) has also helped assure his stature. With the support of LDA, Pakubuwana XIV Hangabehi has also received support from across the descendants of Pakubuwana XII (barring the few inner circles of Pakubuwana XIV Purboyo especially the first three daughters of Pakubuwana XIII led by Gusti Timur), as well as the massive Paguyuban Kawula Karaton Surakarta Hadiningrat (PAKASA), an organization founded by Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwana X (the GOAT) for sympathizers of Keraton Surakarta, which has ever since the Keraton's lost of fortune post-independence play an increasingly important role to keep the Keraton afloat.
7. Pakubuwana XIV Purboyo's camp have not been quiet as well. They have a massive cyber army, reportedly called Lembaga Dewan Ambyar (they also have a Tiktok account) -a twist on "Lembaga Dewan Adat", of course- and overall they still hold the official Instagram account of Keraton Surakarta @kraton.solo (weirdly enough no attempt at making a counter-IG account hasn't been attempted by Pakubuwana XIV Hangabehi's camp). Oh and, they also happen to partner with GRIB. Yeah, that GRIB. You know, for all their talk about Pakubuwana XIV Hangabehi being a puppet of ormas (LDA), they sure do drink their own salivas pretty well.
