Anyone know what was causing the major delays on the road, headed toward old faithful

Several miles away from Old Faithful it was backed up for miles. There was a couple ambulances that I saw go by but never saw what happened. We ended up turning around and going to a different side of the park. Just curious if anyone knows what happened.

Keep in mind “Headed toward Old Faithful” can mean two entirely different places.

Very true, from Madison junction

Probably a bison playing toss the man again. They seem to like that game.
I guess there was a post on Facebook that there was a multi-car accident. That's all I know.

I saw a helicopter by the ambulance and my buddy at the old faithful saw a man getting carried in a stretcher so not sure if they are related

I was there also. There was a bad accident and they had to call in 1-2 helicopters. I wasnt sure how long it would be blocked. We also turned around and went another way to get to our rental.

Bison. I was stuck in there for almost an hour.

There were bison right before painted pool and grand prismatic prism that caused a huge back up. Just people driving slowly to look at them and that alone caused a huge back up.

Moron tourists likely

It was due to Bison crossing the road and people slowing down to take pics/allow them to cross.

It was just really really busy. There's always something going on, but yeah it's just busy.

Edit: checked with a buddy driving back from Mammoth, it was a herd of bison ~200 yards from the road, and people slowing down to see them. Ambulances were just trying to get to the front of the line and back home for the night.

Are Lights and sirens on two ambulances normal?

I had radio on, there was a fire on Craig pass, and some other stuff, but all evening it's just been traffic about bison.

It’s the Bison Jams

and also

People blocking the road trying to get into full parking lots

Crazy folks are down voting the correct answer. It was busy yesterday and their were bison on the road, worse than normal traffic, but not outrageous for evening on the peak season.

Why the downvotes?

I sat in that traffic a long time while people took pictures of the fluffy cows

Slow down enjoy the drive

Can’t slow down much more than a dead stop for an hour then 5mhp for another hour before heading back the way we came.
