It probably had a rifle in it and got stolen out of someone’s vehicle & dumped

https://store.vanquest.com/products/rackit-36-gen-2-covert-rifle-pack/

u/bteam3r 9h ago

Bingo. This is a range bag minus the gun. The thief took the valuable thing and dumped the rest.

u/b1ack1323 9h ago

Gas mask for the range?

u/TresCeroOdio 9h ago

“Train how you fight” is a common doctrine. Elevated lead levels are also common among shooters and a lot of people are transitioning to wearing PPE while shooting

u/Kiefy-McReefer 9h ago

also - more importantly - there is a large community of gun nuts that like to LARP at the range. We call them Tactical Timmies.

...and i've never met one that can shoot.

u/Iswearitsmenotyou 9h ago

Tacticool. I’ve never understood those tools. I wonder if they think I don’t take practice seriously because of my jeans and t shirt….

u/Kiefy-McReefer 9h ago

tbh i find it pretty funny - i'm a competitive shooter (USPSA/SCSA) and it is EXTREMELY funny seeing a grown ass man in head to toe camo and a bucket hat lose his shit after getting absolutely crushed by a green haired goth girl.

u/Deathcat101 9h ago

Did not see the kinds of "guns" I was expecting on this profile.

Well yeah Timmy. It’s a game. Also who the hell is training against targets that shoot back?

u/careerburn3r 6h ago

It would be unsafe probably but I'm curious how I would actually do if I rigged a airsoft gun to fire back in random intervals during range time

I rock camo BDU pants and a sun hoodie with an old carhart ball cap. But that has more to do more with that I seam to breakout with the fabric used in most out door pants so I wear my BDU pants from when I was with TEMS (ems that are attached to the county SWAT team) that said it is hilarious watching somone in a MAGA hat crash out after getting owned by a Trans girl with a PSA PCC.

I love it! Went to Front Site several years ago with my son for an intensive handgun training course. He was 17 and thought about going into law enforcement and I wanted to make sure he had the basics down solid. We went through 800 rounds each over 2 .5 days. A great bonding trip.

I’ve been plinking since I was a toddler. I’m no competition shooter, but I know my way around my side arm well enough. Some hot shots there really were not pleased a teenage boy and his mama were winning the “competitive portions” of the weekend. I wasn’t the best shot there. I came in second to a petite lady that was a cop and shot competitively. She was awesome to watch.

Shooting is different in gear so if they are planning on using gear it's wise to practice in it.

u/MustangVoodoo1 3h ago

I am a tshirt and jeans kind of guy. But, at the range, I will wear my body armor over my jeans and Ts. Peeps can call it tacticool, but when I was overseas, I found out real quick that shooting with and without body armor is night and day

I like the Gravy SEALS. I took my CPL class with an incredible instructor that taught us what I considered excellent shooting posture and positioning from inside your home during and invasion or break in. Living on the north end of Detroit, it is entirely relevant for me as my neighborhood has semi-frequent issues with this. But overall, the scenarios we were placed in felt much more realistic than a would-be large scale catastrophic or apocalylistic event. I'm not saying we aren't on some strange brink of issues in our country, but for me the threat of a home invasion seems far more likely. Anyways, I'm all about a bug out bag, but I don't think I could bring myself to carrying it to the range. To each their own I guess.

u/Der_Hebelfluesterer 4h ago

But not shooting with a gas mask lol, some people do wear ffp2 masks yes but not a complete gas mask.

This looks more like a prepper cache to me.

u/ConfusedAndCurious17 4h ago

This is a long shot but to play devils advocate, military members are required to qualify at CATM which includes a part where you are required to wear a gas mask similar to the one pictured. This can be the most difficult part of the whole thing honestly as it prevents getting your face properly positioned against the rifle and your vision is all jacked up.

This qualification can be the difference between being deployable and not deployable. It can have a big impact on your career. I could absolutely see someone who regularly struggles with qualifying going out and getting an AR-15 and a similar gas mask and practicing on their own time.

Is this likely what happened? No. It’s probably some dork who is LARPing, however I figured I’d give at least one reasonable explanation.

u/TresCeroOdio 4h ago

I’ve seen stranger things

u/InfoBarf 8h ago

people already called it a larp kit

u/meticulouslycarless 7h ago

If the person was military, then he had to shoot mask on and off. I had to do both to receive qualification on the m4. You never know if we were chemically attacked.

u/DimensionOk4024 9h ago

A lot of people carry a bug out bag in their vehicle.

u/Ashford314 9h ago

My teen carries an adventure go bag that is very similar to a bug out bag down to the wound dressings. Because of that, I had to restock my home and car first aid kits. Small price.

u/Cyborg_rat 9h ago

Well that explains the scenario of Garand Thumbs how to survive a nuclear attack.

u/Cook_croghan 6h ago

So actual answer here rather than “It’s cos play lol”

It’s becoming more common to have a gas mask with full vision like this due to many qualification shoots required to hold licenses for employments or carrying weapons, such as armed security, Law Enforcement, concealed carry, and many specific types of weapon qualifications (from pistols to long rifles) are conducted at inside ranges, with dozens of other people. That’s thousands of rounds, in under an hour, in an inclosed space with shitty ventilations. shooting in general leaves powder residue from Copper, Lead, and other materials in the air.

In cramped, indoor ranges, with lots of shooters, the levels can get really high. It’s really REALLY bad for your lunges over time. Instructors can spend hours (6, 7, 8 hours) cycling through classes two to three times a week. Having a cheap, but effect old school mask like this is great for filtering out all the lead in the air if your job is being inside one of these ranges multiple hours a week for extended periods of time.

With the other things in the bag (Write in the Rain note pad, Glow sticks, boot bands in a giant pack, weapons tools, used weapon lube bottles, CAT tourniquets) and it looking pretty used, I would be this guy spent a lot of time shooting in some professional aspect.

u/CopperStateCards 10h ago

This looks to be the answer, no spare bb's to indicate an airsoft kit and all the zippers are open.

u/b1ack1323 9h ago

I don’t think people usually carry hemo dressing in their Airsoft kit

u/CopperStateCards 9h ago

I'm a vet who has played airsoft, if not recently. I have tourniquets and hemo dressing in my first aid kit alongside standard gauze. Growing up I got torn up pretty badly by a nub on a tree I had been sitting in, in a friend's yard, when I slid off the branch. Medical trauma can happen anywhere and running around in the woods provides more opportunity. Wood can be sharp and sometimes you find old scrap metal too. That said for the reasons stated previously this doesn't seem like airsoft kit.

u/mahatma666 6h ago

Vet who don't airsoft but knows a lot of folks who do. Most of them carry the same gear they'd use with a centerfire rifle, just swapping out the chest kit/placard. IFAKs are always a good idea and if you have a good one packed, why rip half the stuff out of it for airsoft?

I’d put money on this having been stuff that was stolen out of a car. Thief took the guns and ammo etc, left the shit he either didn’t think was valuable or just didn’t want to try and fence. That gas mask is quite expensive, though- it’s an FM-53 with a VPU (voice projection unit, the little thing on the front. Allows the wearer to talk more clearly through the speaker). Those VPU’s alone can go for 300+ when new. Mask around the same.

u/mattiman1985 10h ago

I used to work the sporting goods department in a Walmart during the Obama years. One of the funniest (as funny as robberies can be anyways) customer realizations was some guy coming in and buying multiple long rifles and a bunch of ammo. In his words, it turns out displaying signs about "we shoot, we don't call the cops" signs and bumper stickers is the equivalent to having a "come rob my guns when I'm on vacation" sign. He was pretty pissed at himself because he forgot to lock his gun safe up before going on a long family hunting trip.

u/MitchelobUltra 9h ago

Having a bunch of gun stickers on your truck don’t tell people that you’re dangerous, they tell people that you’re a loot drop with a free gun under the seat.

u/HorsefaceWithNoName 9h ago

same with musical instrument stickers, any sticker for a hobby or related to some kind of equipment just makes a target for smash & grab. That's why I only put stickers of lice on my car.

u/Euphoric-Cucumber609 8h ago

I had glow in the dark mushroom stickers all over an old beater I took camping. Great way to strike up conversation with… interesting people. It would also get broken into all the time because everyone assumed I had drugs, they were right but I hid them well.

He was pretty pissed at himself because he forgot to lock his gun safe up before going on a long family hunting trip.

Absolutely wild to me. Why is the gun safe not locked by default? Unless one is actively in control of the gun for some purpose, why is it not secured?

In a place with any reasonable gun laws, having a firearm stolen would mandate a police report and mean that there's at least a cursory investigation for negligence started.

u/johannthegoatman 7h ago edited 4h ago

There are a shitload of irresponsible gun owners, that's why "just be responsible like me" isn't good policy. Even "responsible" ones make mistakes

u/Darq_At 7h ago

That's what I'm saying though. I'm not saying "just be responsible", I'm saying that responsibility should be inextricably tied to gun ownership, with legal consequences if necessary. At the very least, one shouldn't just be able to restock their gun safe after such a mistake.

Register firearms to the individual, if it's involved in a crime, then the owner is subject to investigation.

u/rothrolan 6h ago

Welcome to one of the many reasons why gun-related accidents is currently one of the leading causes of child fatality rates in the US. Lots of irresponsible gun owners don't follow the basic rule of safely & securely storing their guns every single time they aren't actively using them, which also specifies ensuring they are locked up so they are out of reach of children.

But the "mah freedums" IRA crowd puts up a fit whenever they are warned that the shortcomings of their responsibilities around owning a gun may lead to headaches and heartaches when those rules are ignored/neglected. Stolen guns are reeeeally hard to track down if the serial numbers aren't registered (though some less lawful people, including thieves, will grind the serial off for one reason or another, so the gun becomes untraceable, making registering them next to useless), but having a lockable gun safe (and actually locking it every time) is a very basic way to not only keep your property secure, it will keep your kids safe at home, too.

People hide survival packs all over national forests out on the west coast. The dangerous ones usually are buried underground. I saw reports at least once a year that another cache had been found when I was in the PNW.

Someone's rifle bag and bug out gear.

Based on the location and lack of recent societal collapse, I'd suspect it was stolen in a house break and the thief kept the gun and dumped the rest.

I'd call the cops to collect it if it's possible evidence

u/avinaut 10h ago

I see debris inside the bag- OP, did you find it lying open? A stash wouldn't be left open. A thief's leavings probably would be. Using a rifle bag to carry a bunch of stuff not including a rifle is suspicious.

At the local pawn shop.

u/Bishopjones2112 10h ago

Specifically there is a bunch of chem lights, a hemostatic bandage, a gas mask, a compass, a bunch of gear wraps, at least one tourniquet, a set of garden cutters, a water bottle, and a few other smaller things I can’t see well. As others stated it’s likely someone’s attempt at a big out bag or a larp kinda thing. The bandage and the tourniquet make me think it’s an attempt at a bug out.

They dropped into the warzone and forgot to pull their chute in time

Free stuff or trash

Finders keepers.

That Avon C50 gas mask is worth like 160 alone. Since it has the voice projection unit attached it's probably worth around 250-300 assuming it's not a replica

u/chaos_47 9h ago

Close, it's a FM54 (you can tell it's a 54 over a 53 from the VERU lever). You can tell it's not a c50 from the shape and vpu. Those are 350+ used, VPU is another 300, internal mic is 100+, tinted outset is 100+.

Probably not a good idea to keep stole gear...

It’s a hidden stash from STALKER.

u/Euphoric_Peach_4856 9h ago

I had my civilian trauma med kit stolen out of my work truck about 3 months ago and it looks exactly like mine. Send me a dm so we can further discuss.

u/Specific_Pear_665 10h ago

I would contact the non emergency line and just let them know maybe mark it with a little indicator so you can tell them where it was.

That looks like other commenters have said and I'd probably try to leave it as it was so they didn't think someone messed with it.

u/snarkysavage81 10h ago

A bugout bag?

u/Endle55torture 10h ago

Either murder kit or bug out bag

Someone playing at survivalism à la apocalypse. Left their stuff, maybe lost it in the dark.

Tourniquets, gas mask, flameless rations heaters (correction that's not what that is: Thats a field dressing bandage in its package) ... and what looks like a battery for an electric airsoft gun?

Yes this is totally someone's kit for when they're playing at Zombie Apocalypse living.

u/FuckSteve7 10h ago

Also, how far away are you from where people are parking their vehicle? Could be someone stole the rifle bag out of a car, kept the weapon and dropped the bag and contents. Just a thought

u/One-Goal-5720 10h ago

Looks like somebody was preparing for the end of the world. Missing a few key ingredients but it's a start

u/cryptolyme 9h ago

a covert operative's stash spot. or an airsoft LARPer's crap they left behind.

u/Kind-Basket2264 9h ago

Free gear

u/captaincrazyspoon 9h ago

Thats a very nice gas mask, like unbelievably nice good find haha

u/kgully2 9h ago

I would venture this belonged to a member of a tac team- either left behind during an op or stolen.

u/rebelpride302 9h ago

Holy shit, a real life loot drop

u/LongJawnSilvr 9h ago

Its called a Loot Drop. Someone had that gear in their car and it was all stolen but they only kept the gun

u/Question_Consistent 9h ago

I’d report to the police in case someone in your area has gone missing

u/GingerbreadMonk 10h ago

FM53 gas mask. You can sell it for like $500 on ebay. Probably more since it has tinted outserts.

u/Impossible-Milk1624 10h ago

Probably belongs to some redneck who's always talking about 'opsec.' Methamphetamine may or may not be involved

u/ch3strr 9h ago

we all know its OP's gear, right? they took it to the place, took the picture, and are acting stupid.. its obvious, right??
