You ever cleaned explosive diarrhea off a wall?

u/Paul_Michaels73 17h ago

Or a ceiling?

u/allanon1105 17h ago

True. Sometimes even in an aisle. Just diarrhea everywhere.

u/ygmeech679 22h ago

Don’t do it. You have the unhoused individuals that stagger into the store and make a mess in the bathrooms, kids throw up all over the floor, customers leave trash everywhere and shit all over the toilet seats.

Do not do it. It is not worth the pay and there is a reason those positions are always available. If you have to apply at Walmart, apply for a regular associate position.

I agree. I do cart pushing as my main role with cross training in maintenance. I hate maintenance and respect the associates that do it full time. Both these jobs are the least desired in the store. I'm good with cart pushing because of low customer interaction. I tolerate the outdoors so that way I can avoid angry customers

It’s gonna be hell. I’d take most positions over that. Some of the things I saw and stories I heard from maintenance they had to deal with while working there was out of this world. I’d probably take it in the meantime though if I was really desperate.

Lots of poop

Have a strong stomach? Also don’t call them custodians, they get mad. It’s maintenance, and don’t piss off maintenance

Tell the last part to Management at my Store.

Market Manager's Coming (Once a Week) Store's Gotta Look Perfect (So [Management] can look good because we're trying to Kiss His Ass).

u/qa567 22h ago

It is called Maintenance Associate. Over night wedo a lot of dust mopping and running scrubber and cleaning restrooms and other manly things. Day shift stands around chatting up the cashiers and smoke breaks.

You'll mainly be sweeping, cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash cans, cleaning up spills, and helping with stocking/truck unloading/cart pushing whenever they need extra people.

u/No_Butterscotch1195 21h ago

That sounds like a lot of responsibility! It's definitely not an easy job, but I guess it keeps things running smoothly in the store.

u/Strange_Ad_6985 23h ago

You have to be willing to deal with a lot of shit both figurative and literal

u/Icy-Ad-8917 15h ago

As much as the literal Shit you have to deal with, the Figurative (Bull) Shit is Worse, MANY TIMES WORSE.

AVOID IT IF AT ALL POSSIBLE

u/Slow_Passion_8141 22h ago

Wait until you see footprints on the toilet 🚽

u/JereKane 22h ago

Its honestly not that bad. You get left alone more than most other positions (rather maintenance than a cashier). Using the machines is fun also once you get good at it.

Its a must to have strong patience and a strong stomach tho or you'll crash out at being called all the way to the other side of the store to clean up a few drops of water.

You also will get pulled to do random jobs when theyre short, so not everything will get done. As long as the bathrooms are fine (thats a must) then youre straight

Our maintenance team does not get paid enough

u/uwuwebber 18h ago

Depends how raunchy is your city/town. Be prepared to do 3 person job too, as for overnight, be ready to detail the crap out of the store and still get told shit lol

u/TravelerOfTeyvat 22h ago

I will be honest. Low pay, little respect, usually thankless, kinda sucks. But, it is a start, and it will get you places when you put it on your resume and try to get somewhere better. Over nothing, absolutely take it. I got lucky, I got in as a cashier. I recommend that if you can

u/honey_rainbow 21h ago

It's a shity job

u/Grand-Most8047 21h ago

Shitty😎

u/Zoog_the_destroyer 21h ago

You'll be cleaning piss, poop, dried boogers wiped on walls possibly vomit

u/Choice-Belt-7990 20h ago

You forgot blood (sometimes LOTS of blood), drug paraphernalia, full underwear, and dog shit. It’s a glorious job.

u/kimura_yui149 Cart Pusher 19h ago

What's it like?:

Being the only maintenance on a Sunday afternoon because everybody quit/called out

Hearing " MaInNTeNanCe%#<<]%##!!* on the walkie every second

Management/associates expecting you to be on both sides of the store at once

It's the least respected job and you get treated by everybody as such

Low/unavailable supplies so you gotta take shortcuts. For ex. at my store we don't have shit to put glass in. So gotta find a box to put it in. Many times I don't find one so I have to throw straight into the trash.

Cleaning shit on the walls and bodily fluids in general

Customers get angry you close down bathrooms

Taking out trash. It always rips and ends up getting on you and your shoes

Making bales because the backroom doesn't want to and management decides it's in your job description

You always end up being the one to throw the piled up trash into the trash compactor. Again because the backroom and everybody else just dumps it there because "it's maintenance's responsibility". Waiting 10 business days for a coach to open the trash compactor. Also as you throw the trash into the compactor it leaks trash juice and sometimes rips on you.

TRUST DO NOT DO MAINTENANCE

u/JoyousMadhat 18h ago

Two positions I'd recommend staying far away from are Maintenance and Front End Team Lead. Why FE team lead? Cuz when maintenance isn't there, you are the one doing their job.

u/feartheswans Walmart keeps me around for some reason 17h ago

Try and remember the worst thing you've had to clean up

Now Try to imagine the worst thing to clean up

and realize

That those two things have nothing on what you're about to clean up at Walmart

and its the lowest Pay tier so base store pay

Not worth it, don't do it, there are plenty of other jobs in the store that pay base minimum that are going to be way better than that

DON'T FUCKING DO IT

u/Bubbly-Term-288 17h ago

Idk about Walmart but I work at Sam’s Club and hear peoples assholes screaming in there every other piss I take and I’d never EVER shit after the disasters they leave. I wait till I get home

my partner is maintenance and she really likes it because she doesn't have to deal with customers or other coworkers that much, but she does have to deal with cleaning feces and vomit, so you'd better have a strong stomach.

she seems to have an easy time with it, but i'm sure it's not for the faint of heart.

u/TestyPossum 23h ago

Don’t….Just don’t.

u/Userdataunavailable Bean Counting Pharm Slave 23h ago

Awful. I've literally seen customers shit on the floor. Also, the bathrooms are a special kind of hell. Please don't do this to yourself.

u/redneckotaku Moderator 22h ago

Have you seen the conditions of a Walmart bathroom? You'll have to clean that up. And sometimes you get pulled to help stock (depending on shift) and help bring in carts from the parking lot.

u/TheLegendOfZeb 19h ago

At my very small store this morning, an old man walked into a stall, pissed EVERYWHERE, like all over the toilet and floor, and left his cane/crutch leaning against the toilet, if that informs your decision.

u/Paul_Michaels73 17h ago

Go for over nights, if you can. On any other shift expect restrooms that are nuclear grade waste sites... over and over again.

u/Ill_Pea324 11h ago

Im a janitor at a psych ward

u/Einlanzer99 5h ago

Been maintenance for 21 years. Honestly, the worst for me isn’t what I’ve had to clean, it’s dealing with having other associates jobs tacked because they are lazy. But yes you can expect to clean up gross stuff, so if you’re weak stomach and mind you won’t make it

u/TrueYuusha Associate 22h ago

You’ll be cleaning a lot of shit and some vomit. I have emetophobia so I never even considered applying for the position. If you have a strong stomach and don’t mind picking up trash then you’ll probably be fine.

u/mystedragon OPD 20h ago

full-time shit, piss, blood, and vomit cleaning for the lowest pay grade of the store isn’t my cup of tea personally
