I'm looking for: cozy cafés for reading/sketching/writing, short hikes nearby, concerts, alternative events. Also things like sketching meet-ups, second hand stores, or creative spaces would be very interesting for me.

Hi everyone! I’m flying into Arlanda and then taking a bus to Västerås. A friend of mine recently made the same trip and told me that there are currently some temporary bus stops at Arlanda, and that it took him quite a while to find the right one.

Hi everyone! I am a student moving to Västerås this Monday (August 31st) for a 6-month project at ABB. I urgently need a cheap, reliable commuter bike (ideally a 3-gear, around 51-54cm frame since I am 170cm tall) that I will resell at the end of my stay. Because I am just arriving in Sweden, I do not have Swish, BankID, or a Swedish bank account yet. I can only pay in cash.

Hej, gymnasievalet kommer snart, och jag undra, är estet på riktigt så dåligt? Många säger att dem bara går på fester, dricker, och gör droger. Och att dem inte studerar så mycket. Och att inte gå på estet för att folket skulle influensera en och göra en deprimerad och "emo" (inte at jag ser själv något fel på alternativa stilar)?

Är estetare på riktigt så? Speciellt på Carlforsska? Eller är de bara dem mer problematiska man ser ute som gör att många tycker illa om alla som går estet?

Ska man på riktigt bara gå på Samhäll istället? Även om man inte är säker att man skulle gilla att hela tiden bara ha svenska, so, osv med inget imellan?

Ska man ens gå på något högskoleförberedande eller ska man bara gå praktiska nu?

Jag vet inte ens varför jag frågar det är:/ Jag är bara stressad.

Hur är det egentligen att bo där? Hört mycket dåligt men aldrig märkt något när man går omkring.

Tänker mest på området med alla äldre radhus.

Verkar rätt prisvärt jämfört med andra ställen men de kanske har sina skäl…

Jag vet att Västerås inte har det bästa utbudet för konst och kultur, speciellt inte i form av evenemang för de i min ålder. Jag är hyfsat åter-nyinflyttad (jag är från stan). Trivs här men har inte många vänner som bor kvar.

My goal is to spend as little as possible. I initially thought about buying a cheap second-hand bike and reselling it before leaving, but I’m worried about getting stuck with it at the last minute.

What is the best and most cost-effective strategy?

• Is there a bike subscription service active in Västerås?
• If I should buy second-hand, where should I look besides Facebook Marketplace and Blocket? Any specific local shops?
• Are there cheap long-term rental options for students?
• If I find a good second-hand bike in another city and need to bring it to Västerås, how does it work with bikes on Swedish trains? Do I need a special ticket, or are they allowed on board?

I’m flying out with a cardboard bike box (cheaper) wondered if anyone knew a spot I could store this whilst I’m out on the bike for about 10 days so I’ve got something I can fly back with without having to worry about finding another one. I’m a 26M who recently moved to Västerås for work. I only speak English for now, so I’m trying to figure out how people actually meet other international folks in this town(beyond dating apps)😅

I’ve been searching a bit but I honestly don’t find many international events or expat-type communities around here compared to bigger cities.

Are there any places, groups, cafés, bars, sports clubs, language exchanges or events where young international people usually hang out? Even Facebook/WhatsApp/Meetup groups would be super helpful.

Would really appreciate any recommendations or tips from people living here 🙌
