In Västerås this week for work
Hi all! I'm in Västerås this week for work and it's also my first time in Sweden, so I want to use my free time to explore the city a little bit.
I'm looking for: cozy cafés for reading/sketching/writing, short hikes nearby, concerts, alternative events. Also things like sketching meet-ups, second hand stores, or creative spaces would be very interesting for me.
Any tips welcome, thanks!

For cafee I have some suggestion
- Caffee Maria Therese, located on the bridge north from the city hotell. Its a caffee bar so not much sweets but they have a somewhat secluded workspace for work and study.
- Cafee Malin, a caffee located near the church of Västerås. It has coffee and sweets and I find it often quiet to sit there.
- Caffee Mosaic, located across the street near the cinema, SF. Its cozy and has coffee and sweets. Often quiet with two floora. It may have musical events but often on the afternoon.

Kalle på spången is an old Cafe in city. It's inside one of the Old buildings in Västerås centrum.

Vanilla Cafe is my personal fave - the staff are so lovely and they have some amazing food and drinks. 😊

You should to to Sturegatan 10 at night Thursday-Saturday, check out their instagram. Really good food and music

Most of the good spots have been mentioned. Since it's your first time in Sweden, I'd defintely plan one meal at Stigen's https://stigenavknut.se/ and get the Norrlandsplanka appetizer (Smoked venison roast steak, reindeer sausage, smoked venison heart, flatbread chips, Västerbotten cheese & fig marmalade) and Hjortskavsgryta (slow cooked deer stew) for your main.

Seems like you’re trying to cram a bunch of stuff into a week, but I’ll try to help.
There’s a big second hand store called ”PMU” in Erikslund. The whole area is kind of the antithesis of what you’re asking, but it’s got decent shopping with a large mall. Go to IKEA, get the meatballs!
Björnö is a small island with hiking trails that’s very close by. Watch out for ticks if you don’t have a TBE vaccine! I got Lyme disease a few years ago. Apparently the ticks in this area are no joke.
A walk down the marina near Steam Hotel is nice and I recommend Udden Japanese if you’re down in that area. If you’re on the other end of the marina, try Kajplats 9.
Check out Anundshög. Some really cool history and good views of the countryside.
Speaking of history, the Vastmanlands museum and art museum are also down near central station. The regular museum is free and gives a bunch of info about the history of the area. The park near central station is also nice.
The Vallby open air museum is kind of a living history thing that also talks about history of the area.
That’s all I can think of from a quick look around on Google maps. I don’t live in the city anymore, I’m about 30km west but I visit fairly often. These are the type of things I take family and friends to when they visit.
