Hey all. My girl is 35, and every day when it’s warm, she goes outside in a big feeding tub/trough. I didn’t put her out yesterday but today, as I was bringing her out, I saw a white spot. When I brought her back in, it was still there. It had to have appeared between Saturday and today, or I would have seen it. She was injured 4 years ago, and had to be patched up. The injuries were to her right side and closer to her head and right arm. It feels soft, and I’ve never seen anything like it. Besides having a box dropped on her 4 years back, she’s never had a problem. She lays eggs and comes for food. She’s eating fine today, made a quick dash through the yard before we came in. I just want to know what it is so I can either start treating or get her to a vet before major surgery is required. I almost fainted when I heard the cost last time but it was pretty bad. Hoping this isn’t bad. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. We’ve been together a long time.

Hello everyone, I brought my youngest daughter a white lipped mud turtle and we are having a hard time identifying the gender. Was wondering if anyone could help us based off these photos. We are thinking female but not 100 percent sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I mean I have an idea of what it is but I’m worried it’s hurt and I had to release it. Is it organs?

Hello, I really need some help! I found a turtle in my backyard, and it is not native in my state. My parents are willing to call someone but it is likely they will kill the turtle. I do NOT want that to happen. I don't have money to get supplies for the turtle, so if you guys have any supplies you guys don't use that will be helpful. I can't take it to a lake or anything because it is a freshwater turtle and we don't have that near us. ANYTHING HELPS!!

Hello! I’m a new owner of a terrapin (unsure of species and gender. But it’s shell is about 8 inches long). And I need some advice on the basking area of my terrapin tank setup.

Yesterday, DIYed this basking area for it out of egg crate but I’m worried because it’s been a day and I haven’t seen it try climbing the ramp to the platform. I’ve tried showing it how to by give him a little boost and let him crawl to the top afterwards. It seemed possible so I don’t know why it hasn’t tried on its own. It really loves basking so I don’t know if it’s really an issue with the ramp or that it’s not used to it yet.

But I am just posting this just in case it’s really an issue with the ramp that I’m missing (since I’m a first time terrapin/pet owner). I’m worried that the ramp is too steep (it’s about 30-45° when the terrapin’s on it) or too short or something I’m missing entirely.

Extra info on setup & terrapin:
(1) For the past week or so the basking area was inside the “tank” itself (last pic) and I decided to make a new above-tank basking area since in the old one it couldn’t swim or dive much.

(2)I know the tank itself isn’t big enough for a terrapin of that size but we are still in the midst of finding a better one

(3) The tank is very empty I know and we have already ordered a UV lamp, some rocks and little plants for his enrichment and to reduce boredom. It’s coming in about a week or so

(4) This terrapin is a rescue/adopted so I don’t know its gender species or age. My family literally found it in the middle of the road in our neighbourhood. We’ve asked around and it’s isn’t one of our neighbours’ pets and we do not live near any natural terrapin habitats so we believe it was abandoned by someone

Disclaimer: Before anyone says anything, I know this turtle will not thrive in such habitat. I know I need to give him about 20+ gallons of water worth of space.

Can you guys give me a budget friendly habitat environment? I’ve been cruising on facebook for a used aquatic tank, but not so much luck.

I also plan on changing the water every other day, I have no issue in that. I am also more than happy to do a DIY aquatic tank. Leave some recommendations as a new turtle owner :)

looks like a bruise kind of, looks like it’s under the skin more than some kind of lesion or wound but i could be wrong. map turtle, about 9 months old, unsure what gender, in a 50 gallon tank (plan to upgrade soon as he’s growing fast). seems to be acting normally and healthy just noticed this.

We saw this turtle down in Cozumel yesterday. INaturalist identified it as a Furrowed Wood Turtle, but it hasn’t had anyone confirm that ID.

I was interesting looking and if identified correctly, it would definitely be appropriately named,

I have a pair of southern painted turtles that are a little over three years old. Over the last couple of months, I’ve noticed that they don’t go after their food quite like they used to. I give them Omega turtle pellets every other day. They still get the pellets recommended for juvenile turtles; I’ve tried other pellets that are recommended for adult turtles, but they ignore those. The turtles used to get very excited for dinner, but lately, the feeding goes largely ignored. In fact, they’re often more interested in the fish flakes I feed to their platy tankmates. They also used to be more excited for treats like meal worms, shrimp, or blood worms.

I do notice them grazing on the pellets after they’ve sunk to the bottom a few hours later. I also see them eating the algae and moss that gets loose when I’m vacuuming up detritus or scraping algae off the glass. I’ve also seen evidence that they’ve eaten platys.

I’ve checked the water quality and temperature, and all is well. Their basking temperature and UV exposure is also in good shape. What’s more, the fish, snails, moss, and anubias are all thriving. The population of platys self regulates. I estimate there are between thirty and forty platys at any given time. Those things breed like jackrabbits.

I’m wondering if the turtles are feeding throughout the day on platys, algae, moss, and/or broken down food pellets. Is that a thing? Should I be concerned about their food intake?

It’s one of the many that wander around my property. Was surprised to see her at the door though. She had to have either climb the stairs or the ramp. Either way it was surprising!

Located in the gulf coast area of Mississippi. My dog is obsessed with these turtles she keeps finding in our backyard.. so much so that she keeps finding the baby and bringing it inside. She flipped over the big one this morning so I put it right side up and made sure she left it alone. Just wondering if anyone knows what kind they are! Plus last photo is of the baby thief post crime.

Just made a DIY basking setup for my 2yo male RES. Only trialed it for a few hours so far but he's unable to climb up the ramp naturally. Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

I've had my turtle for 6 ish years now, and within the last year his 'ear' patches that are supposed to be bright red have turned more dull in shade. Nothing really comes up when I google it. Is it an age thing?

Just trying to make sure I have the healthiest title possible.

Not sure if this is the right sub for this, but here goes. I was on the beach yesterday with my family and I spilled my drink so decided to get into the water to wash off. Ambient temperature was 33 degrees and this was at 4pm. On my way to the water I saw something moving in the sand and it was a baby loggerhead. It was going very slowly and seemed to be struggling on the sand. I didn't know what to do but it was a fair way from the water, probably about 20 meters. The temperature was high and the sand was very uncomfortable for me. People saw me and asked what's up so I told them. My fiancee came up and we decided to take the turtle in a plastic cup with the sand it was on and move it closer to the water. It started going away from the water so I went to read up on what to do. While I was doing that, another man took the turtle and put it in the sea, which was choppy. I came back and saw the turtle getting pushed back to shore from the wave. I told everyone not to touch it and just leave it by the sea, based on what I had seen online. I then left, trying to encourage everyone else to leave it alone. A couple stayed and they said that it eventually went into the water and swam away. I am awake now in the middle of the night thinking about whether I did the right thing.
