Germany is missing about 370,000 skilled workers right now. A new study says that is the small number.

The Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft, the research arm funded by German employers, put out its projection on Monday. By 2029 it expects around 723,000 jobs to sit empty because nobody qualified applies. That is close to double what the gap was last year.

And the job with the biggest hole is not the one most people would guess.

It is shop staff. Salespeople. The study puts that gap at 39,100. After that comes childcare at 29,900, social work at 23,600, nursing at 18,700, and building electricians at 17,400. About 870,000 people work behind German shop counters today, the third biggest job group in the country.

The study blames two things. A lot of these workers are close to retirement. And fewer people are arriving from other countries to take their place. Study author Alexander Burstedde says the answer is to make working pay better and to make it easier for qualified people from outside the EU to come and work here.

So 370,000 is the small number. 2029 is the one to watch.

So me 25 and my girlfriend 27, we took a taxi today from Hammam Lif to La Marsa. I did not like his face and the way he spoke. Mind you, I’ve been born and raised outside Tunisia and I’ve been living here for the past 9 months.
Before we go, I told him to pass by my house because I wanted to take something with me. Anyways, I went home, took my stuff, and we were on our way. It took 1 minute or less.
On our way there, somewhere around Radès, my girlfriend’s phone rang and I told him please lower the volume. He didn’t respond, so I lowered it myself. Right after that he said, “What are you doing? You’re not supposed to touch my radio.” I told him I already mentioned to lower the sound because she has a phone call. He said she can talk and hear while the radio is on, that it’s normal. I told him no, it’s not ok, and things started escalating.
I told him “w bara masitlek el radio, y5i kaserthelek ana?” Then things flipped. He stopped the car and started asking if I’m angry: “shbik metghashesh inti se3a?” I told him no, “manich metghashish ama inti ta3mili mosh mn 7a9e9 tmesli el radio.”
Out of nowhere he started moving again and I told him no, stop the taxi, I’ll pay you and it’s over, I will not complete the ride with you. He said no, “you want to go to Marsa right, I’ll take you there,” and he started going the opposite way.
Then he started saying “ena weld Hammam Lif” in a weird tone, and said that I’m not Tunisian and that I’m Libyan (all respect to the Libyan community). He said that because I was talking on the phone in a different accent.
I’m trying to put you in my point of view so you understand and tell me your opinion about this situation. While he was saying all of this, he told me “meli rkebt w makch 3ajebni inti.” I replied “3lech mosh 3ajbek, jay bech tekteb 3laya el zde9 inti?”
My girl started shouting “no please no” because she thought he was taking us to his 7ouma. He told her “ma dakhlikch inti” while she was shouting.
He stopped the car and I told him “e7ki m3aya ana.” He kept telling her to make me get down or else he’ll “open my face.” He’s basically a fucked up human, but I didn’t want to take things far because my girl was with me.
I opened the door, got out, and walked away with my girl. While we were closing the door he said “e7med rabak ma7lilikch wejhek bel bomba gas” and “behi maklitch tre7a lyoum.”
I didn’t respond, I just left. My girl was shaking, and I think I took the right decision because if I spoke, things would’ve gone really bad. He already had something in the car and was trying to pull it out, maybe a knife, I don’t know.
Anyways, this situation made me hate my time in Tunisia. Things like this keep happening, and it makes me lose hope and regret coming back. I truly regret it because of some people here. They really spoil the image of the country.

Why do people constantly draw symbols, write phone numbers, or scratch names onto Tunisian money?

أكد رئيس المنظمة التونسية للطاقات النظيفة، يوسف شبيل، أن المنظومة الكهربائية في تونس تواجه ضغوطاً متزايدة نتيجة الارتفاع الكبير في معدلات الاستهلاك خاصة خلال فترات الذروة، محذرا من تداعيات هذا الوضع على استقرار التزويد بالكهرباء خلال السنوات المقبلة.

وأوضح شبيل، في حوار عبر إذاعة ديوان أف أم، أن الاستهلاك الكهربائي في تونس يشهد قفزات كبيرة خلال فترات الذروة، حيث تراوحت مستويات الطلب بين 6500 و 7000 ميغاوات مقابل معدل استهلاك عادي يناهز 2000 ميغاوات.

وأشار إلى أن هذه المستويات تعكس، وفق تقديره اختلالاً هيكلياً مقارنة بالمعدلات المسجلة عالمياً، مبيناً أن معدل استهلاك الفرد من الكهرباء خلال الساعة يتراوح عالميا، بحسب الظروف بين 1 و 1.2 وصولاً إلى نحو .2

الحاجة إلى 3000 ميغاوات إضافية

وبين شبيل أن إجمالي القدرة الإنتاجية للشبكة الوطنية منذ تأسيس الشركة التونسية للكهرباء والغاز سنة 1962 يقدّر حاليا بنحو 4000 ميغاوات، في حين ستحتاج تونس لمواكبة الطلب المتوقع مستقبلاً، إلى إضافة نحو 3000 ميغاوات من القدرات الإنتاجية الجديدة.

واعتبر أن تحقيق هذا الهدف يتطلب تطوير منظومة متكاملة للإنتاج والنقل في فترة زمنية قصيرة، وهو ما يستوجب بحسب رأيه الإسراع في اتخاذ القرارات والاستعداد المبكر للاستثمارات الضرورية.

وفي ما يتعلق بالكلفة، أوضح رئيس المنظمة أن إضافة 1000 ميغاوات من القدرة الإنتاجية باستخدام تقنية الدورة المركبة تستوجب استثمارات تتراوح بين 3000 و 4000 مليون دينار، إلى جانب كلفة مماثلة تقريباً لتطوير شبكة نقل الكهرباء وتحديثها.

تحذيرات من صيف 2027

وحذر شبيل من أن صيف 2027 قد يشهد بدوره درجات حرارة مرتفعة، وفق التوقعات المناخية، وهو ما قد يزيد الضغط على المنظومة الكهربائية ويرفع مستويات الطلب على الطاقة.

وشدد على ضرورة اتخاذ قرارات حاسمة خلال الأشهر المقبلة، مؤكداً أن إنجاز المشاريع في تونس يمر عادة بمسار إداري ولوجستي قد يستغرق بين 9 و 10 أشهر، الأمر الذي يجعل التحرك المبكر عاملاً أساسياً لضمان جاهزية المنظومة لمواجهة الطلب المتزايد.

حلول عاجلة للحد من الضغط على الشبكة

وفي مواجهة التحديات على المدى القريب اقترح شبيل جملة من الحلول التي من شأنها تخفيف الضغط على الشبكة وتحسين قدرتها على الاستجابة للطلب من أبرزها:

الاستفادة من القطاع الصناعي: استغلال البنية التحتية المتوفرة لدى المؤسسات الصناعية ولا سيما شبكات الضغط المتوسط، لإدماج حلول التخزين وإنتاج الطاقة المتجددة بشكل لا مركزي.

تسريع اعتماد الشبكات الذكية: الاستفادة من الحلول التكنولوجية المتاحة حالياً دون انتظار استكمال مشاريع التحول الرقمي الشامل للشبكة، التي قد تستغرق عدة سنوات.

ترشيد الاستهلاك وتقليص الفاقد اعتماد التحكم في الطلب والحد من ضياع الطاقة ضمن عناصر أساسية لمعالجة الإشكال بالتوازي مع تطوير قدرات الإنتاج.

التوسع في الطاقات المتجددة اللامركزية: دعم نموذج إنتاج موزع ومتوازن للطاقة المتجددة بما يساهم في تعزيز استقرار الشبكة والحد من المخاطر الفنية المرتبطة بفترات فائض الإنتاج.

المحطات العائمة ليست حلاً استراتيجياً وفي ما يتعلق بالحلول الظرفية لتأمين التزويد بالكهرباء استبعد شبيل أن تمثل السفن أو المحطات العائمة لإنتاج الكهرباء حلاً كافياً أو مجدياً اقتصادياً على المدى الطويل.

واعتبر أن اللجوء إلى هذه الخيارات لا يتجاوز في أفضل الحالات إجراءات ظرفية مرتفعة الكلفة، مؤكداً أنها لا يمكن أن تحل محل الاستثمارات والحلول الاستراتيجية الضرورية لضمان أمن الطاقة في تونس على المديين المتوسط والبعيد.

I have been trying to figure out legally how all these political figures are getting jail time. And my conclusion, is that similar to the loopholes Kais said used to consolidate power, which was basically using the legislature that came from the 2014 constitution, these people are also getting fucked over by laws that predate KS.

Summary

We stayed at Nour Palace Resort & Thalasso Mahdia from September 4–6, 2026. This was supposed to be a short 2-night stay for a local family wedding (we are Germans though).

Instead, during our first night (!), a drugged male guest kicked down our locked hotel-room door at around 4:30 AM and entered while my wife and I were sleeping.

• A guest kicked our locked door open with two kicks and entered our room while my wife and I were asleep. The wooden frame and lock side broke apart completely.
• The man remained inside our room for several minutes and moved aggressively toward us. My wife was undressed, called my mother while screaming for help, and later had a severe panic attack.
• Security did not intervene immediately. We eventually got the man out ourselves, found him again nearby, and only later got him down to reception with the help of other guests.
• The hotel initially returned him to his room and repeatedly discouraged us from involving police. Their first proposed “solution” was to remove his all-inclusive wristband so he could no longer receive alcohol.
• The safety situation did not improve afterward. The first replacement room felt unsafe, the final replacement room had a visibly damaged/buggy door, and on our final night we pushed a bed in front of the door because we were too afraid to sleep otherwise.

The hotel staff later told us that the man had been heavily intoxicated/drugged, and management itself confirmed that high-proof alcohol is available 24/7 at the resort.

We received no refund or compensation.

Why I am writing this post

• I am not just writing this because the rooms were terribly old and the food was very bad.
• I am writing this because I think future travelers should know how the hotel handled a serious security incident.
• No hotel can guarantee that every guest will behave normally.
• But a hotel can control:
  • how secure the rooms are
  • whether guest floors are protected
  • how intoxicated guests are handled
  • whether security is present
  • whether police are called
  • whether a violent guest is removed
  • whether victims are protected afterward

Why the hotel felt unsafe even before the incident

• Almost no access control: no room-key or wristband checks at the main entrance, no key-card-controlled elevators or guest-floor access, and the main hotel door was left completely open at night.
• Very limited security presence: at night we only saw two security staff at the outer vehicle gate. We never saw security patrols inside the hotel or on the guest-room floors, despite the property having 500+ rooms and extremely long corridors.
• Weak room security: many doors looked old and thin, often with no secondary interior lock such as a chain, deadbolt or swing bar. In some rooms there was no practical way to additionally secure the door from inside.
• Heavy alcohol service without matching security: high-proof alcohol was available 24/7, and we personally saw visibly intoxicated guests still being served large quantities of spirits, including wine-glass-sized Vodka servings in the morning. (guests were primarily from Eastern Bloc - EU Ostblock)

1. The incident

Around 4:30 AM: someone tried to enter our room

• We were staying in room 5058.
• The door was locked. I had specifically checked it before going to sleep because the door already looked old and thin.
• At around 4:30 AM, my wife suddenly woke me up because someone was trying the door and knocking.
• A man outside repeatedly shouted something like: “Policia! Open door!”
• He was also speaking what sounded like Polish or Russian.
• The knocking became increasingly aggressive.

Two kicks and the door was open

• I moved away from the door and told my wife to get behind me.
• Then came one extremely hard kick. Then a second. The second kick broke the door open.
• The entire lock side of the wooden frame broke apart. Pieces of wood ended up on the floor.
• We were incredibly lucky that I was not standing directly behind the door.

He entered and moved toward us

• The man was much bigger than me, probably around 185–190 cm tall, with dark hair and a tattoo on his right arm.
• He moved very quickly toward us even though we repeatedly told him to leave.
• My wife was undressed because we had been asleep. I kept one arm stretched out to keep distance and deliberately tried not to start a fight.
• Hotel staff later identified him as a Polish guest.
• I kept my arm extended toward him and tried to keep distance to deescalate the situation.
• My biggest fear was simple: If I started a fight and he knocked me unconscious, my wife would suddenly be alone with a man who had just kicked down a locked hotel-room door.
• The hotel personnel later told us that he had been drugged/intoxicated.
• What made the situation especially frightening was that he was not stumbling.
• He had an extremely stable stance, coordinated movements and seemed intensely focused.

My wife called for help while he was inside

• When he kicked the door for the first time, my wife immediately called my mother.
• When the second kick opened the door, the call connected.
• My mother heard my wife screaming: “Help! Help! Someone entered our room!”
• The man stayed inside for approximately 3 to 4 minutes.
• Whenever he moved toward us, I kept my distance. Whenever he stopped or moved backward, I slowly pressured him toward the entrance.
• Eventually we managed to get him out.

A blonde woman appeared behind him

• Shortly before we got him completely outside, a blonde woman appeared in the corridor behind him.
• She looked approximately late 30s to early 40s. We begged her to get help. Instead, she disappeared.
• The hotel later told us that the intruder was staying with a blonde wife, so we believe this may have been her.

We had to hold the broken door shut

• After getting him outside, we closed the door.
• But the lock and frame were destroyed, so the door could no longer be secured properly.
• We physically held it shut. The man then kicked the door again from outside.
• Only after that did things become quiet.

We found him again

• My mother arrived shortly afterward. We then saw the man again nearby in another corridor.
• Other guests from a nearby room came out and helped us.
• One Tunisian guest in particular helped us to get the man toward reception/security, while 2 women with him tried to calm my wife, who was having a severe panic attack.
• My hands were shaking and I was still running on adrenaline.
• Security only became meaningfully involved well after the incident had already happened.
• If the man had seriously attacked us, their response would have been far too late.

2. The hotel’s reaction

They sent him back to his room

• Reception eventually identified the intruder and hotel management later told us he was staying in room 5157.
• Instead of calling the police, security escorted him back to his room.
• The security manager told us to sleep and said the police would be dealt with the next morning.

The next morning, management discouraged police involvement

• The next morning, my wife, my mother and I met with the hotel manager, another staff member and the intruder’s travel representative.
• We repeatedly asked them to call the police.
• Management repeatedly discouraged us from doing so, saying it would create a lot of work for both us and the hotel and could involve spending several days dealing with the police.

Their first “solution” was removing his all-inclusive wristband

• Their initial proposal was essentially:
  • he pays for the damaged door
  • his all-inclusive wristband is removed
  • the hotel stops serving him alcohol
  • he remains in the hotel
• The hotel manager confirmed that alcohol is available 24/7 and even commented that guests from countries such as Poland, Russia or Romania tend to drink more.
• We had personally seen visibly intoxicated guests still being served large quantities of spirits.

“This is between two guests”

• Management also argued that the incident was essentially between two guest parties and that the hotel itself was only a third party.
• That was exactly the problem for us.
• A hotel may not control every guest’s behavior, but it controls security, access to guest floors, room-door safety, alcohol service, security staffing, police escalation and whether a dangerous guest is allowed to remain.

We had to push for him to be removed

• My wife and I were leaving the following morning, but my mother was staying 3 more nights alone.
• She was crying and explicitly told management that she was afraid to remain in the hotel while this man was still there.
• We repeatedly demanded that he be removed.
• Management initially resisted, but after a long argument and us making clear that we would escalate the situation, they eventually told his representative that he would have to leave within the next few hours.
• We were told he would leave, but we could not independently verify that.

The replacement rooms still felt unsafe

• The first replacement room was an interconnecting room with another occupied room. After what had just happened, the connecting doors felt too flimsy and unsafe, so I refused it.
• We were then moved to room 4028.
• Even there, the exterior door and locking area looked visibly damaged and the door sometimes failed to latch properly unless closed forcefully.
• We were too exhausted to change rooms again.
• On our final night, we pushed another bed in front of the door before sleeping.

No police. No refund.

• The police never came. As far as we know, they were never called.
• We paid the full stay and received no refund or price reduction.
• The hotel apologized verbally, but there was no meaningful compensation.

3. The hotel overall

What was not good

Even without the security incident, we would not rate this as a 3-star experience.

• Rooms: very old, visibly worn and heavily used. The doors in particular felt thin and outdated.
• Food: repetitive (even after 2 days), bland and generally low quality. A significant part of what we tried was simply not enjoyable to eat. Snacks were also very basic and low quality.
• Beach/pool towels: room towels were not allowed at the beach or pool, but we could not find a proper hotel towel system.
• Hotel beach area: the natural beach was nice, but the hotel’s section was quite short, everything felt cramped and messy, and the access path looked old, worn and partly broken.
• Overall standard: parts of the hotel felt closer to an older three-star resort than a modern five-star property.

What was good

To be fair, there were also positives.

• Natural beach: nice sand, clean-looking water and generally a pleasant beach.
• Resort grounds: the public and outdoor areas looked much better than the rooms, and some parts appeared renovated.
• Staff: some individual service staff were genuinely friendly and helpful during our checkin.

ورغم تجهيز مداجنه بالمكيّفات ومراوح الهواء، واتخاذه منذ سنوات احتياطات استباقية، من بينها حفر الآبار واقتناء مولدات كهربائية، وجد أسامة نفسه عاجزا أمام الانقطاعات المتكررة للتيار الكهربائي، التي تزامنت مع ارتفاع قياسي في درجات الحرارة خلال شهر جويلية.

ويقول أسامة، في حديث لـ(وات)، إن المربين "يمكنهم التعامل مع ارتفاع درجات الحرارة بفضل التجهيزات، لكن انقطاع الكهرباء لا يمكن تدارك خسائره"، مشيرا إلى أن خسارته تبقى محدودة مقارنة بخسائر عدد من زملائه التي بلغت في بعض الحالات 50 ألف دينار أو أكثر.

وتعكس هذه الشهادة، وفق رئيس الاتحاد الجهوي للفلاحة بالمهدية صالح شرف الدين، حجم الأضرار التي تكبدها قطاع تربية الدواجن بالجهة، حيث قُدّر عدد الطيور النافقة بسبب الانقطاعات المتكررة للتيار الكهربائي خلال شهر جويلية بما بين 150 ألفا و200 ألف طير، أي ما بين 30 و40 بالمائة من القطيع في نحو 200 مدجنة بالجهة.

أزمة كهرباء تضيف حلقة جديدة إلى معاناة القطاع

ولم تتوقف تداعيات الأزمة عند نفوق الدواجن وخسائر المربين، إذ يرى أسامة أن انعكاساتها تمتد إلى كامل منظومة الإنتاج، من المربي والعامل إلى المستهلك، بما يهدد مستقبل نشاط يوفر مورد رزق لعدد من العائلات.

ويستحضر المربي الشاب تجربته الخاصة في هذا المجال، إذ رافق والده في تربية الدواجن على مدى 24 سنة، قبل أن يختار، رغم حصوله على وثائق الإقامة بفرنسا، العودة إلى الاستثمار في تونس ومواصلة نشاط والده بعد وفاته قبل ست سنوات.

ويقوم أسامة حاليا بتربية نحو 120 ألف طير سنويا، غير أن الصعوبات المتراكمة باتت، وفق تقديره، تهدّد قدرة صغار المربين على الاستمرار.

وفي هذا السياق، تلقى الاتحاد الجهوي للفلاحة بالمهدية، اليوم الاثنين، عريضة من مربي الدواجن تضمنت، وفق صالح شرف الدين، تفاصيل الأضرار التي لحقت بهم، إلى جانب ما عاينه إطارات الاتحاد خلال زيارات ميدانية إلى عدد من المداجن المتضررة.

ودعا رئيس الاتحاد الجهوي للفلاحة بالمهدية وزيري الفلاحة والتجارة إلى التدخل العاجل لجبر الأضرار ومساعدة المربين على مواصلة نشاطهم، الذي وصفه بأنه "يحتضر بسبب أزمة الكهرباء".

حين تصبح الانقطاعات حلقة في سلسلة أزمات

وليس انقطاع الكهرباء، بالنسبة إلى أسامة، سوى آخر حلقة في سلسلة طويلة من الصعوبات التي يواجهها قطاع تربية الدواجن، حيث يشير إلى ما اعتبره اختلالات في منظومة الإنتاج والتزويد، ولا سيما العلاقة بين المربين وعدد محدود من الشركات التي تتولى، وفق تصريحه، تزويدهم بالفراخ والأعلاف ثم شراء الدجاج المعد للذبح.

ويقول إنه قرّر، رفقة عدد من المربين، قطع التعامل مع إحدى هذه الشركات، معتبرا أن صغار المربين أصبحوا يواجهون شروطا تجارية صعبة تحدّ من قدرتهم على تحقيق هامش ربح يسمح لهم بمواصلة نشاطهم.

واستشهد، في هذا الصدد، بأسعار بعض المواد الأولية، حيث لا يتجاوز سعر توريد القنطار من الصوجا أو الذرة ألف دينار، في حين يصل سعر بيعه للمربي إلى نحو 1560 دينارا، على حدّ قوله.

كما تحدث عن فارق كبير بين سعر بيض التفقيس عند التوريد، وسعر بيع الفراخ للمربين بعد عملية التفقيس، معتبرا أنّ هذه الفوارق تثقل كاهل المربي وتحد من مردودية نشاطه.

ويضيف "إن نوعية الفراخ المسلّمة للمربين تمثل، إشكالا آخر"، مشيرا إلى أن ارتفاع نسبة الإناث يؤثر على مردودية الإنتاج وجودته.

مربون في مواجهة كلفة الإنتاج وضيق هامش الربح

وأشار أسامة كذلك الى فارق الأسعار بين الدجاج عند خروجه من المداجن وعند بيعه لاحقا، موضحا أن المربي، وفق تجربته، قد يبيع الكيلوغرام الواحد للشركات بنحو 4300 مليم في حين تبلغ كلفته الحقيقية حوالي 4400 مليم، قبل أن يعاد بيعه بحوالي 5300 مليم.

ويرى أن اعتماد المربين على الشركات في الحصول على الأعلاف والفراخ وتسويق الإنتاج، فضلا عن توفير بعض الخدمات بالدين، يعزّز تبعية صغار المربين لها ويضعف قدرتهم على التفاوض.

ويشير إلى أن بعض الشركات أصبحت، وفق قوله، تنفرد باستيراد الأعلاف وبيض التفقيس، إلى جانب استثمارها في مراكز كبيرة لتربية الدواجن تفوق طاقتها الإنتاجية 150 ألف طير.

ويقول أسامة، بحسرة، إن صغار المربين، الذين يفترض أن يكونوا أصحاب مشاريع مستقلة، أصبحوا في الواقع "بمثابة عمّال لدى الشركات" داخل منظومة يصفها بأنها غير متوازنة.

ويضيف أن عددا من المربين كانوا يعاضدون نشاط تربية الدواجن بتربية الأغنام والأبقار، غير أن هذا النشاط شهد بدوره تراجعا، ما ضيّق أكثر من هامش المناورة أمام الفلاحين ودفع البعض إلى العزوف عن النشاط.

وبالنسبة إلى أسامة، فإنّ ما يحدث اليوم لا يتعلّق بخسارة موسم فحسب، بل بمستقبل نشاط ظلّ جزءا من الدورة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية في الجهة، ويوفر مواطن شغل ومداخيل لعدد من العائلات، فضلا عن ارتباطه بالأمن الغذائي.

ويختزل المربي الشاب مطالبه في تدخل الدولة لحماية صغار الفلاحين وإعادة التوازن إلى المنظومة، قائلا إن "المنظومة تطلب النجدة"، ومشدّدا على ضرورة تدخل الدولة "لاستعادة كرامة الفلاح وضمان الأمن الغذائي ومنع المتغوّلين وفرض سيادة القانون وتأمين عيش كريم للجميع".
