For what it’s worth: I work with 14-17 year old boys and hear them say VILE things every damn day. My favorite way to confront their language is to have them call their parents and self-report, and “explain what you meant by that.” The kids are mortified, the parents are mortified. It’s maybe possible this kid learned hateful language from his dad… but I’ve been in the room with dozens of young boys explaining to their gay dads WHY they called someone the f-slur, and I’ve straight up heard from hundreds of young boys that they learned slurs from the internet to believe that will always be the case.

u/Youbettereatthatshit 8d ago

Doubt he heard it from his dad. I have a teenage nephew that said some Nazi shit. His dad overheard and hit him over the head.

People forget that teenage boys are a combination of multiple factors such as knowing nothing, wanting to figure out their place in the world, being different than their parents, having new and aggressive emotions, and rebelling from the standard way of doing things.

They say stupid things that they don’t understand, which is why male role models are so important. There is a reason that kids without fathers have a higher chance of committing crime

u/Connect-Initiative64 7d ago

I grew up playing COD, talking shit in lobbies, all that. I got the shit scared out of me by my mother and her boyfriend when I was 12 and called someone an f-slur, never did it again. I've on more than one occasion heard kids get screamed at after calling someone a racial slur. I heard a kid get belted by their dad for saying a long line of curses and slurs over the mic.

Kids get introduced to stuff like this through online mediums with zero help from their parents and internalize it as alright, because 'everyone else is doing it'.

Kids can become nasty little shits simply because their parents aren't helicopter-parenting them 24/7 and get a bunch of lessons from the wrong types from the wrong places. Not always, but enough that it's not rare or unheard of.

the days of learning it from you parents is basically over for anyone like, older than idk, 8.

We got shitass influencers for that nowadays.

u/Faeddurfrost 4d ago

Not even my 5 year old said the N word in class got it from the morning bus and the teachers acted mortified we insinuated he got if from school at all.

That’s how these things should be handled. Thankfully you have the presence of mind not to record and upload this stuff to the internet and potentially ruin the kid’s life forever. I’d hate to be judged for things I’ve done as a 13 year old.

u/comradecakey 7d ago

Likewise. I’m a teacher and mentor first and foremost, these kids need more adults who will lovingly and assertively let them know how unacceptable this behavior is with the understanding that there has never been more ease of access to learning it than over the internet.

u/jeffersdelight656 7d ago

If you are being judged by those around you for transgressions committed while you were an immature teenager and you are now however old, any age over 21, it might be time to associate with a new crowd. But I have to remind myself that in today's digital society not only is it acceptable, but encouraged, to judge and condemn any and all we deem inferior, or even just different, to ourselves. All the while maintaining the facade that we are superior and impervious to any negative influence, much less any negative action.

u/uncomfortablebases 6d ago

This! I’m a therapist and gay. I have a handful of high school clients and 1 or 2 have dropped the f-slur in session with me (before knowing I was gay bc I don’t really need to self disclose unless it’s relevant) and it’s always a fun time (I say lightly) to then disclose to them im gay and explore the feelings surrounding saying that word and the reasoning and educating them on how harmful that word really is. Unfortunately not many young boys are so lucky to be taught how inappropriate and harmful it is

Yeah, the "hears it at home" is hardly ever true these days with social media and such, kids hear it from other kids, read it on memes, etc.

u/Plastic_Pinocchio 7d ago

I remember singing “Whore! Whore! Whore!” in my language when I was walking back home with my mom at 4 years old. No clue what that word meant but it sounded funny to me. Got reprimanded real quick.

u/Justtojoke 7d ago

Self reporting is brilliant

u/Electrical-Lab-7544 6d ago

It's good too because kids don't always fully realize what they're saying, making them talk it out can help them genuinely realize the fuck up.

u/A_Bot_A_Bot_A_Bot 6d ago

I don't think this kid learned the N-word from his dad. That man seemed genuinely livid at his son's behavior.

Also: kids are fucking idiots. I hope this one actually learns a lesson here to treat everybody better.

u/Affectionate-Tank532 5d ago

Kids are surrounded by multiple sources of bad influences nowadays, hell their phone is all the need now to see and hear everything.

u/TheEmpire2121 8d ago

Kid ain’t sorry in the slightest. He gonna say that to the wrong person one day if he don’t get his act together

u/ForbiddenSirenz 8d ago

Sometimes that’s what it takes. People don’t like to hear it. But sometimes a good old fashioned ass whooping is what it takes before they finally get it. Sucks it’s gotta be that way, but if you don’t learn it from people being civil? Someone’s gonna have to quite literally beat the lesson into you lol.

u/Fancy_Yak2618 8d ago

I’m not proud of this at all

But in highschool from grade 9 to 11 a stupid kid kept calling me slurs for being a Jew. Tell me the ovens ready etc. I played comp hockey and you could not get in trouble in school or even after school no issues. So I let it fester…I get taken out in a game, knee destroyed so no more hockey. Sitting in class he starts his usual shit I turn around and straight cold cocked him in the nose breaking it. Turns out dudes a haemophiliac and had to goto the hospital. I at the time did not care and when asked what happens if he dies I responded with good if he does let me know where he’s buried so I can piss on him. I had zero fucks at that time. Not proud of it but he did stop spouting off bullshit to people.

u/Autumn7242 8d ago

He talked a lot of shit for someone who could bleed out so easily.

u/Fancy_Yak2618 8d ago

I think he learned his lesson cause it was night and day his personality afterwards.

u/Time_Fisherman6659 7d ago

Yeah honestly him learning that in a school setting where there's a lot of people around willing to help him and get him to the hospital is ideal.

If he tried that shit on the street as an adult hed probably just die, so you may have saved his life.

u/RudePCsb 6d ago

He needed to learn. Unfortunately, people like him (people with a medical issue) are treated with kid gloves and they will be assholes to others because people don't defend themselves against them.

u/Large_Deal_2394 5d ago

Sounds like he was peacocking and got checked.

u/TheReturnOfTheRanger 5d ago

That's generally how it goes. I had similar as a kid, bully kept trying to start shit for months. Eventually he succeeded and that fight ended with him in the hospital after I slammed his head into a brick wall. Never had a problem with him again.

Nature gave living things pain as a natural teacher. For millions of years, animals have learned to avoid doing dumb shit by feeling pain when they do it. Sometimes you gotta teach people the old fashioned way

u/OmarsDamnSpoon 5d ago

u/hewhoeatsbeans42 4d ago

You don't have to be proud but don't feel bad about it. You taught him a lesson that someone probably would have in a much harsher manner later in life.

u/UncleOxidants 4d ago

I’m proud of you.

u/Herbdontana 3d ago

When I was in high school, I remember my friend getting into a fight with a kid who had been harassing him endlessly. It was like an agreed to meet at the flagpole type of fight with a bunch of kids standing around. They box a little and my friend caught him in the eye and he started bleeding. That’s when he told us that he was a hemophiliac and we needed to call an ambulance. Not sure why a hemophiliac would engage in a fistfight or egg one on in the first place. Scary situation tho

u/PositiveAirport8829 2d ago

be proud of it

I knew kids in high school like that, they talked all the shit they could and said horrific stuff because no one could really check them without getting in twice the trouble.

Didn't save them the first time the said it off school grounds and got their teeth kicked in (literally, in one case).

Kids think words are words and they can't be punished for them until they're on the ground getting jumped by 3-4 people after calling them a racial slur.

Even then, it didn't teach a few of them a damn thing, they acted like victims the entire time afterwards.

I think everyone is overblowing the whole flinching thing.

Any fucking kid is gonna flinch after they catch their dad overhearing them being a little shit and saying some abhorrent stuff.

If be pissed if the kid didnt flinch

u/thatorangetiburon 8d ago

Yeah I was gonna say, shit my parents never laid a hand on me growing up but I sure flinched whenever my dad caught me doing something wrong, or being a shit headed kid. It's a normal reaction to being caught doing some shit you KNOW you weren't supposed to be doing.

Especially saying the things that kid was saying. Fucker knew he was being a little shit and got caught, by Dad no less. Kid got what he deserved.

u/Cerberusx32 8d ago

Facts. Especially that neck grab/hold. Core memory.

u/BreakingCanks 8d ago

One thing my parents taught me is "at some point you keep this up you will piss someone off that will hurt you harder than I will with this belt."

Now I don't condone violence but I understood their message and that got me to stop... Just saying sometimes it is effective if done right...

u/dan_dares 8d ago

The only time i'd ever consider physical discipline with my kids, is if it involves something that could kill them.

Run out into traffic? Say something that someone might kill them over?

Yup.

→ More replies (7)

u/NajeZiw 8d ago

The most messed up people always excuse their parents violent behavior with, "I was hit as a child and I turned out just fine." It is all cope, it is to avoid admitting to yourself and your parents, that they messed up raising you, and worse of all, is parents who excuse their own violent behavior towards their own kids.

Never teach your kids, that violence is the way to solve anything, if your parents solve your bad behavior with violence, then your kids gonna grow up solving stuff with violence.

Can we normalise not recording children making their way through life?

Not everything has to be a clipable moment. Let kids makes mistakes and learn their lessons in private.

FFS.

u/Pristine-Meal3508 8d ago

Exactly. This is a permanent repercussion for a stupid mistake. In the society we live in, this kid could be fired from future jobs over this, expelled from schools, and much worse. All over one mistake. And now we have a bunch of stupid adults uploading that childish mistake so it hangs over that’s kid’s head the rest of his life. If this is the society people want for everyone maybe it’s for the best we all go extinct. I prefer forgiveness and second chances.

u/VVickedPhantom 7d ago

Racism isn't a stupid mistake. This kid deserves to have this recording of him be online.

u/Pristine-Meal3508 7d ago

u/This_isR2Me 5d ago

No we can't. Even before the digital age we filmed our children going through life at every opportunity or major life events, it just wasn't as costly or efficient as it is now. Pictures are also taken all the time. They were just analog and most people don't go back and digitize their old photo albums. Bet your bottom dollar that if our grandparents could share pictures and film back then, they would have

u/AdAffectionate2418 5d ago

They were filmed for private consumption, not public display.

It's easy to think "everyone would have done it" as it removes the blame, but I do not agree.

My grandad was an amateur photographer and filmmaker, he had local exhibitions/screening etc. He also took loads of photos and film of my mum and auntie - would it surprise you to find out that none of his exhibitions featured them in anyway? I know my anecdote doesn't prove that no-one would, but it does show that (even 50+ years ago) some people understood that you don't use your children to "score points".

I didn’t learn the n word until I went to school. I came home at 6 y/o and told my mother and sister a joke I heard on the playground and the looks of shock and horror on their faces told me everything I needed to know. I fucked up. Then I got the speech and explanation. I’m not offering an explanation to what this kid did, but I bet dollars to doughnuts he learned his lesson on this day. I thank god I learned, I’d hate it if I hurt someone with that word.

u/Confident_Natural_62 8d ago

Yo for real I barely had ever heard that word before middle school and some white kid started saying it to me and told me it means friend. I knew it sounded fishy though lmao imagine I didn’t and just started saying it.

u/bunglebee7 6d ago

Same, came from a small school then I went to a large school starting 8th grade. The kids were so crude and swearing saying all this insane shit it blew my mind. Quickly rubbed off on me too probably because I wanted to fit in better

u/somethinghere2016 2d ago

My son heard it on the bus used by older students. He thought it meant like “homie”. Told his whole damn class he was thankful for……you know what. He was seven. I don’t think I’ve ever been that shocked and embarrassed in my life. He knows now it’s not okay and why, but because we don’t use that word he didn’t really understand other than the context he was exposed too.

u/Iam_McLovin420 8d ago

u/_autumnwhimsy 8d ago

yeah 100% don't hit kids but also there's 0 evidence of this kid being hit and the projecting onto a parent (whos making his kid apologize and do the right thing) is wild

like yeah when these lil racist nerds who love saying the n word in xbox lobbies get caught in person, they are SCARY. of course he turned away and put his hand up. that boy is ashamed and embarrassed over having to face consequences for his actions.

but again, hitting kids is abusive and trash parenting. there are ways to punish that are effective and not corporeal.

u/Aljoshean 6d ago

zero sincerity in that kid. The dad is trying, but the kid has to grow up.

u/oliviertail 8d ago

Not liking any part of this..

u/Professional-Camp534 8d ago

Wait which part. Genuine curiosity

u/oliviertail 8d ago

All of them. Starting with the fact that this kid called this group of women the n word. Followed by the dad having no issues getting in his kid’s face. Followed by the complete public humiliation. Also the dad’s giving that attitude like “yea tell him how much of a pos he is”. Kid learned it from somewhere just saying. Not saying from the dad necessarily but he sure is taking advantage of the situation to try and make himself look like something he isn’t.

As a dad myself, I would obviously never accept this. On the other hand, I don’t think my daughter ever heard the n word yet and if she did/when she will, she’ll already know not to use it because in our house we don’t nickname anyone by their race. In fact, we simply don’t care for race and treat everyone the exact same regardless of where you come from.

Clearly this was not the case for this kid.

TLDR; everyone be acting like they perfect here but dad needs to take part of the blame.

u/girlgenesis3 8d ago

Agreed. Kind of seems like a cover up on dad's part but maybe this kid genuinely didn't learn this at home either.

u/Background-Pepper-68 8d ago

More than likely learned it online or at school. Kids barely learn anything at home these days. Especially with both parents working and being in school 8+ hours a day

u/ThatSplinter 8d ago

I think you underestimate how often kids learn vile language from other kids.

u/AnAnGrYSupportV2 8d ago

That word could never be used at home by any family or friends and you'd still hear and learn about it. Personally I don't think the dad did a bad job at all. He was clearly pissed at his son for being a pos. But not only that, the dad was probably feeling under pressure to make sure he was taking that situation seriously and quite frankly, I think he was.

u/Professional-Camp534 8d ago

I mean personally I make him sit there for the conversation. I was rasie to look at a person identified yah thats a person and treated humans like people. But I agree to some degree with dad needing to take a role. But the word its self is very openly used in a lot of media and songs.

u/oliviertail 8d ago

I agree. As 90s kid and a fan of rap. I’ve been exposed countless times to that word yet I have never used nor have I ever felt the need to say it.

Some things are taught and not learned.

u/Conscious-Move9662 8d ago

The way the kid flinches when his dad approaches.

That kid's hit at home and probably learned that language from dad.

u/BlackSkyNoise 8d ago

First statement is very likely, but you're underestimating the amount of exposure kids have from other kids online, at school, and in the neighborhood. Whether they genuinely use it with malice or think its funny or both.

u/SquirrelyBoy 8d ago

As someone who was on Xbox live in the 2000s, I can confirm.

u/StuuTheCleric 8d ago edited 8d ago

Ah man this brought back vivid memories of one of those squeakers talking mad shit not knowing his mom was home and heard at least 2-3 minutes of him using every slur in his vocabulary. Ah man dude it was legendary I added everyone in that cod lobby so we could talk about that little shit shitting bricks when she busted his door down. Still talk to two of them every couple of months.

u/Sir_Drake 8d ago

Valuable insight

u/BraisedBullshi 8d ago

Take away his electronics and nuke his socials. Year zero his algorithm with better parental oversight

u/StrawberryParking550 8d ago

As a man that was hit as a child, you don’t put your arm and stand there. You get the hell out of dodge. Kid knows he did something wrong and got caught. Way to blame the parent for the mistake of the child though.

A father approaches his son and grabs him to punish him and you are psycho analyzing why he pulls away a little

u/Allout-Okarun 8d ago

Nah my dad never hit me but I’d flinch too in that same situation, most young boys would. Redditors are ridiculous how they read into micro expressions and assume the worst.

u/Dark_halocraft 8d ago

Dude that's shame. He flinches because he knows his dad is pissed, not because of what he thinks he'd do when pissed

u/FallNo7130 8d ago

what a load of bs

→ More replies (18)

u/CompletelyPresent 8d ago

No, it's the kid's guilty conscience - he KNOWS he did something wrong, and FEELS like he deserves to be hit for it.

Plus, he saw how pissed his dad was.

I've never hit my kids, but they would get scared if I approached with this demeanor too - it's the grown man effect.

Unless you're Mister Rodgers or Pee Wee Herman, a pissed off man is going to intimidated every kid.

u/AppleFine6868 8d ago

Ya Definitely not American media right? His dad should have ended it with "Now go listen to your rap music and remember not to sing along when they say the n-word."

u/Yogi422 8d ago

The way he reacts to the dad walking up and neck grabbing him says a lot about the acting out and disrespecting other people.

u/Abject-Detective-894 8d ago

Actions have consequences. I bet that kid thinks twice before he says something racist again. If the dad didn’t react the way he did people would say he’s enabling or promoting that behavior. I don’t get why people think it’s bad to have a fear on consequences.

That’s all so wrong but the way she’s going off doesn’t help the cause. Kids dad probably taught this but kid isn’t going to say anything or he’ll really get whooped

u/Pristine-Meal3508 8d ago

I hate how submissive and cowardly white people are. That father handled that wrong and so did the other immature, troglodyte adults. Why do they think they have a right to record that kid? This video could potentially ruin that kid’s life permanently. We don’t know the full context. Why’d he even say it? I experienced so much racism towards whites growing up. I’m from a town in South Carolina where the population is majority black and we lived in poorer neighborhoods. Whites will not stand up for other whites. Blacks and other ethnicities largely stand together. It’s a kid saying forbidden words to be edgy. Which isn’t a behavior exclusive to white children. Is the kid racist? No but, stupid people will lose their minds over it. If you are moved to violence by slur, you’re the issue. Funny enough, making a word taboo doesn’t solve anything. It actually makes the issue worse. People like bucking the system being a rebel.

u/Spartan01AMF 8d ago

I can’t stand that everything is recorded and put on the internet. I agree, people acting like violence is acceptable because of a word is honestly crazy.

u/LordKlavier 8d ago

THANK YOU. The word is harmful because of the context it is used in. Especially at this age, the kid likely has no clue what it even means.

u/hashbrowns21 7d ago

>Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.

I feel like the meaning of this has been lost. Nowadays people are so ready to jump to violence and throw their lives away for any and every insult. Threatening your kid with violence will only make them hate you.

In the heat of the moment, I think this wasn't a terrible way to handle it. But you have to make him understand why it's wrong.

What he should have to do is go back over and interview these women about their experiences with racial prejudice, then write a paper about it. Beating the brakes off of him would just make things worse.

I had to tell a 19 year old that trolling is for the internet, he said like 4 statements that will get you fired if somebody overhears it.. the youth know that the algorithm promotes things that make people mad and that same algorithm makes people rich, these kids are supposed to want to be rich and we are supposed to make smart people succesful not rage baiting trolls who manipulate the algorithm for engagement

u/Sea-Pea-7941 8d ago

The boys family use it constantly in their household.

u/notinmyham 8d ago

I'm black and never use that word. Let alone some random little kid using it like his top G. It might have just been a word added to his vocabulary, retrieved from his environment. Sometimes you ain't gotta look far to see some shit.

Did they speed this video up, or is everyone actually talking in that speed? I can't understand a bloody word.

u/CardGuyofWarframe 8d ago

Had a younger beother spitting hateful slurs and comments. Probably just trying to look cool talking to a friend on the phone.

Still pissed me off, told him that one day he won't be a minor and that he'd get his ass kicked talking like that, and for his sake he'd better hope I was the one to do it.

He asked why would he want it to be me and with full seriousness I stared him down and said, "Because I'll love you enough still as my brother to stop before your breathing does. A stranger may not give tht courtesy of you say it to them "

Cold, yea. But a solid real world fact. He doesn't use slurs(at least not around me) anymore.

u/SpicyChanged 8d ago

Ooof and shared food with the kid.

u/citan67 8d ago

That kids been hit and bullied by dad at home. You can see it in the first few seconds the way he flinches and puts up his arms to defend

I saw it, yeah, how he turned away. Definitely not a great father/son relationship. Also the grabbing by the back of the neck. That's a tactic used by abusers to hurt and intimidate.

"Blaming the kids is a lie and a shame You know exactly who's to blame...

The mother and the father!"

Not ignoring. I just don’t care. Every group has the their sob story. Most others just aren’t as weak.

And , for the record I’m Mexican and grew up In a black neighborhood and rest assured it wasn’t US (or the Asians, or the Indians, or the Muslims ore the mentally disabled ) who were “incapable “ of not using slurs. It was(and still is!) the blacks. We certainly weren’t oppressing them so by your standard I should be allowed to call them slurs.

u/SherwoodLA 8d ago

Shows it doesn’t always come from the home, sometimes they pick it up from friends.

u/Upper_Tomatillo_8945 8d ago

Dad says it at home and putting on a heavy front for the camera.

u/Testicle_Tugger 8d ago

I really want to know how the moment ended.

I think it would be beneficial for this kid to see his dad do something like apologize himself and take a moment to introduce himself to the women.

Yeah berate him for being a little shit but give him an example to look back on as a lesson about being human

Maybe I’m clueless I don’t know I feel like that could help

u/Invalid-Function 8d ago

Don't americans get tired of beign offended by words while your governemtn kills people all around the world? is led by a convicted criminal that uses the office of the President to favor his family? being represented by a government that supports genocide?

You get all converned by the word "nigger" whiel at the same time you live under a government that uses a militarized force to arrest people under the suspicion that they might be an illegal imigrant? no universal healthcare... the coutnry were people are afraid of being ill... because they could not pay the bills...

fk'ing hell.. and its the word "nigger" that gets you all alarmed?! whiel you vote for people on the payroll of an organization that pushes the agebnda of another country and forces you to fund thatr said country military.

it amazes me.

Well, i can say that he learned that word from Blacks who call each other that word.

u/llewellynlaporte 8d ago

A moderate beating from dad now will probably save him from being beat to death later in life.

u/SectorCalm2044 7d ago

Imagine he learned the word from his dad

u/Melodic_Airport362 7d ago

You can tell the kids dad is an asshole the way he's sticking his finger in the kids face. Yeah the kid needs to learn a lesson. But the dad is performing here for the crowd. The kid is acting out cause his dad sucks, the kid has rage he doesn't know how to express in a healthy way.
