TIL that the Civilizations games (and others) include creator Sid Meier's name in the title because Robin Williams joked that it would help sell more copies of 1987's Sid Meier's Pirates.

Meier may not have intended this as the first Civilization game predates Google, but adding his name in front does help make googling of his games much easier as the word "Civilization" on its own is just too ambiguous of a search term (similar for the other games under his brand "Pirates", "Alpha Centauri", "Railroads", "Starships"), and so is probably good for his games' SEO reach to new audiences.
