The fact that it originally came out for PS4 as well.

Just the best game I've ever played.

I use to love fist fighting with Abby (Pause) or just fighting in general it felt so realistic

Abby's melee combat feels weighty and satisfying, and Ellie's melee combat feels ruthless and vicious. I prefer Ellie's because she feels more unique to me.

It’s so minor but I love the small difference with their melee, even their weapon handling is different if I remember correctly. I feel like an absolute unit trained to kill when playing with Abby.

TLOUP2 combat is great for its genre (survival horror) but GTA can't just be made in that direction. You know what I mean?! It's not that R* CAN'T make a gameplay smoother than TLOUP2, it's that they DON'T WANT to go for that route. They've established a gameplay style for their own open-world games and they keep improving on that, since the massive player base of R* demand the same gameplay and don't want the next game to change it a lot.

I totally understand your point, and on some level agree that they can't radically change it since GTA 5 is not just any game, it's the biggest entertainment product ever. But I still expected R* to evolve the combat, but going by the extended look, it will be Like RDR2, point and shoot. And I love RDR2, but still.

Its not just that.. Tloup2 isn't an open world game plus it does not have infinite number of cars and npcs.. When the resources for all that increase realism isn't possible with a good fps on current consoles..

Best engine has to be mgsv. Then tlou 2, best fighting and evasion games.

I am baffled how people totally skipped on this when the game came out.
They were so blinded and in their emotions because we all know what happened that I feel like everything else was totally ignored.

It sold like crazy and achieved equally crazy completion rates

The combat is not particularly inovative or complex, but man it feels so smooth. Like it just flows perfectly. That's all that matters to me.

I don't see much point in comparing TLOU to GTA; their objectives are vastly different.

One game is linear, with gameplay focused primarily on combat, while the other is a massive open-world title where combat is just one of many activities.

From a design perspective, I also think TLOU’s gameplay takes very seriously hardcore players interested in mastering mechanics, honing their skills, playing on high difficulty settings, etc.

GTA, meanwhile, aims to appeal to the widest possible audience of casual players, for whom the mere act of shooting or brawling is satisfying enough (as long as it looks cool).

But yeah, TLOU2 nails combat fluidity — standing alongside MGSV as the best in the industry, for different reasons.

Im on my 2nd full playthrough of II where I can actually slow down and notice all the details like artifacts and stuff and recently discovered the Slow Motion setting for aiming.  Total game changer.  Makes it feel like Max Payne 3 or Deadeye in RDR2 and shootouts are crazy between gameplay slowing down and speeding up.

Jason's gameplay has aimbot, we can't comment yet.

This game is truly phenomenal and honestly the graphics still look fucking amazing.

Currently I like Wukong, Onimusha and Stellar Blade combat more than TLOU.

I’m excited for GTA6 but Jfc I can’t wait for intergalactic 😍

To be fair, GTA 6 has a lot more to offer than just shooting, so it doesn't necessarily need to be as polished as TLOU 2!

Ive said this before but this game ruined gaming for me haha. Set the bar so high that nothing comes even remotely close. Naughty Dog is top tier, and alone at the top.

Omg, the first thing I thought when I saw the gun play in GTA6 was 'wow, it feels so much impactful in TLOU2' it was the only thing in the trailer that disappointed me.

ok now drive a car or plane in a lifelike florida recreation

i like tlou too but this is not a valid comparison

Would you say the same if I compare just the writing in both games? This is a combat comparison and nothing else.

u/leonaidas01 1d ago

yes i would say the same

writing in gta games are very different than a serious zombie game

but coming back, these combat animations are not possible to implement in a huge open world where variables are countless. that’s why rockstar scrapped prone positions as it would be buggy.

tlou is more linear and at max 5 or 6 things are happening in the screen at a time compared to hundreds in a gta game

I agree when it comes to melee combat, but what about the gunplay? The gun shots and wounds feel so much more real and impactful in TLOU2 than what we saw int the GTA6 trailer. It was the only thing that left me a bit disappointed
