Over the last year i've seen a lot of talk about shows that started off really good but then over time just got worse and worse and usually had very underwhelming/disappointing conclusions.

So I was curious if there are some examples of shows that started out meh/pretty average but the team behind it absolutely locked in for the final few episodes/final season and delivered peak television.

It’s darkly funny, incredibly heartfelt and so well written. It’s Australian, about two strangers who have a meet cute where she flashes him while he’s driving and he accidentally runs over a dog, and through guilt, they sort of co-parent him and fall in love over time - but it’s FUCKING GREAT. I just finished the s3 finale and it’s beautiful, like just such well rounded show, with great characters, great story, genuine character evolution.. it’s wonderful, please seek it out if you can.

Jimmi Simpson has had a role on 3 shows this past week in Always Sunny, Dark Matter, and the Walking Dead: Dead City. Earlier this year, Colman Domingo was on Euphoria and The Four Seasons which airs in the same week. Other examples this year include John C McGinley in Scrubs and Rooster and also Steve Zahn in Chad Powers and Silo. Last year, this also happened with Walton Goggins on the White Lotus and the Righteous Gemstones and a few years ago with Pedro Pascal in the Last of Us and the Mandalorian. Any other examples of this?

I think Squeeze is a strong candidate for the most influential motw episode in TV history because it essentially perfected the formula. We have a genuinely memorable monster, a self-contained horror story, a compelling investigation, and Mulder and Scully’s dynamic at its best. Tooms also became one of television’s first truly iconic recurring monsters of the modern era. You can see the DNA of Squeeze in countless genre shows that followed.

EDIT: I also forgot about Home. That episode absolutely deserves to be in the conversation too — it’s iconic and hugely influential

Came across this series last week, which I don't even recall being advertised back in the day. Apart from the brilliant production design, costume designs, it's one of those shows where you get a bunch of fantastic actors who can display emotion so well in small expressions. This is a show you should really watch attentively, because there are so many meaty scenes like this one.

What I was looking on yt for was a scene where Crozier and Franklin (Jared Harris and Ciaran Hinds) try to make up after an argument: an absolute masterpiece. Not just those two leads, but Tobias Menzies and Ian Hart in the background, watching and reacting.

Of course maybe that need to pay attention is why it didn't see a wider audience.

I guess I never realized how many of his cases were solved by scamming the scammers or conning someone. I have to admit I was fairly young when I first watched the show in syndication.

Rockford was so charismatic that he could smile and convince nearly any one of anything. Just finished episode 2 of season 2 and the whole thing was a convoluted con of a con artist who had conned Rockford’s cop friend (Becker) out of a large sum of money.

He does get a lot of visitors to his trailer who love to punch him in the stomach. Everyone seems to know where he lives. To the point that it feels like he must have signage up pointing people towards him. lol

I love James Garner in this role, just as he was perfect as Bret Maverick, he is perfect as Jim Rockford. However, I was wondering if they rebooted this who could fill those shoes? I really can’t think of anyone who has the right personality and looks.
