I don’t know. College removes a lot of players. I think around half of current players went to college and historically it was much lower than that. Right now New York schools aren’t exactly powerhouses for future big leaguers.

Dick Tomanek.

Born in Avon Lake and graduated from Avon Lake High School. He didn't attend college; he signed with Cleveland out of high school, missed a few years for military service, and then made it to the majors.

He later went to Kansas City in the same trade that sent Roger Maris from Cleveland to the Athletics.

He died in Westlake because Avon Lake didn't have the medical facilities.

Because of his military service, he is buried in Ohio's National Cemetery.

His family even has a road named after them in Avon Lake.

Although they spelled the name wrong.

I think that counts for this request.
