Twenty thousand follower Tiktok account with monetisation unlocked, but my new niche gets very low reach. Start fresh?

In twenty twenty-two I grew this tiktok account to twenty thousand followers and one point five million likes posting clips from funny shows. Then the rules changed and reposted content stopped qualifying.

I've recently switched to cinematic travel content I shoot myself. It does well on Instagram, but on TikTok it gets almost no push, I guess the algorithm still reads the account as a comedy repost page. (My contents are now totally self made and well structured cinematic contents)

The catch:

every monetisation option is unlocked on it. Creator Rewards, the lot. A new account would mean earning all that back from scratch.

So, keep pushing this one until it recalibrates, or starts clean? Has anyone switched niches this hard on an aged account?

The algorithm isn't reading your account history like a permanent record, it's reacting to recent signals. Every time you post and it flops, that becomes new data telling it your audience isn't into this. Before you post again this week, pull up TikTok's own trending page for travel and check what sounds and formats are actually getting traction right now in that niche, not what you assume works. Then match your next few uploads to that instead of guessing.

Also post at a similar time each day for a stretch. Consistency helps the algorithm build a clean new read on you faster than sporadic posting does.

I’m in a somewhat similar situation. I got on tiktok in 2016, and I used to make comedy/skit/trendy content along with relatable/mental health videos. I built an audience of 800k+ and even got verified. Now I’ve just returned after ~2 years of posting VERY inconsistently, and my reach is totally throttled. For the past few weeks I’ve just been trying to post consistently again, no matter how my stuff performed.

(I’ve also pivoted to more travel content, but I’m trying to work in some of my old style as well. I used to be very active and I do still occasionally get comments like “I haven’t seen you on my fyp in forever!” or “omg seeing ur face is taking me back to 2019”.)

But I’m ngl the falloff is embarrassing. I am struggling to break 500 views these days and my follower count has been consistently going down for years. I’ll still hit a rare viral video here & there (in any niche- viral is viral) but it doesn’t help my views at all on the surrounding vids. All while the same content is getting millions of views & converting to followers on meta... and what’s wild is that I AM accounting for optimized TikTok vs meta format. Tiktok is getting more volume, and bts, casual vlogs, talking to the camera, etc but it’s not even working lol.

So I’ve also considered starting fresh. But like you, my current account is automatically enrolled in every monetization program. I’m also happy to still be sitting on that verification and 800k, even if it’s just legacy…

I think I’m going to keep up consistent posting for the next month or two just to see if I can get any traffic/actually cash out on any of those monetization opportunities 🥴 I can come back and let ya know how it goes 🤷🏻‍♀️

i'd keep the existing account a bit longer and post consistently before starting over. tiktok can take time to recognize a complete niche shift. if the reach stays flat after a few months of quality uploads, then I'd consider a fresh account
