In light of all the bot spam we're introducing a new posting rule
Hi everyone! I know most of you have probably noticed the absolutely unrelenting bot posts lately. Myself and the other mods have been trying our best to remove those posts and ban the bot users, thanks to all your reports we have been doing an okay job of it until recently. The last few months these types of posts have been absolutely obnoxious, not just in our community but in many others, and we are having a hard time keeping up because we aren't bots but just a bunch of Samoyed lovers with families and other commitments :)
After talking to some regulars here and the other active moderator we have decided to try out implementing a minimum karma to post certain types of posts. Text posts will not be affected as we certainly always welcome discussion and questions in this community! We welcome your feedback and please continue reporting any suspicious posts and comments you see.
Thank you,
r/samoyeds Mod team

Wolf Type vs Bear Type Samoyeds
I have a “wolf type” puppy (4months old) who did look more bear-like until a month ago.
Curious how a bear- type looks like at 4 months -12 months old. Please post pics with months of age!

My dog gets “dirt mustaches.” What’s the best way to clean them?
My sweet girl has always gotten these streaks on her face from licking her lips, even just days after getting groomed. What’s the best way to clean them off without making her uncomfortable or tugging on her whiskers too much?

Came home to a crime scene. The suspect was smiling.
I went on a long trip yesterday, and through the security camera, I discovered she had sneaked out of her cage early. Then I saw her pooping and peeing everywhere in the house, even finding the food container, opening the lid, and enjoying a buffet. She also loves to study; she chewed up two books I had on the table. Surprisingly, I remained calm this time.

Samoyed Backpackers?
Anyone take their Samoyed backpacking? My little guy is finally getting to the age where we can start doing longer hikes with him and I’m so excited!
Does anyone have any recommended dog backpacks? I want to get him something so he can carry some of this own bags, food, and possibly water. I’m just a little concerned that covering up his double coat too much will interfere with his ability to stay cool. Does anyone have thoughts or experience with this?

Advice
Hi samoyed owners, what would your advice be for brand new samoyed owners regarding training a 10 week old Sammy? Mainly trying to get her attention and keep focus on you specially if treats are not her thing?

Tips for keeping a mud-loving Samoyed puppy clean without over-bathing?
Hey everyone!
I have a 4.5-month-old Samoyed puppy who is extremely active, loves to play outside, and predictably gets muddy and dirty every single day.
I know that washing/shampooing a Samoyed too frequently can disrupt their skin’s natural microbiome and cause irritation or skin issues. However, keeping up with a white, fluffy coat on a playful puppy is becoming quite a challenge!
I’d love to hear how you manage daily dirt and mud.
• Do you let the mud dry and brush it out?
• How often do you use dry shampoo, wipes, or water-only paw rinses?
• Any specific grooming tools or routines that saved your sanity during the puppy stage?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Puppy peeing on guest’s foot
My puppy peed on a guest’s actual foot a month ago (3 months old) and today, a plumber was working in our bathroom & he went up to him then peed right on the floor beside his foot. 😩😱
I had taken him out on the yard where he normally pees just before but he still ran in towards the plumber.
How do I stop this ? 🤣
Hiney of culprit for picture tax.

White Magic health issues and how to tell what breeders litters might be healthier based on pedigree
I recently read up on all the old posts exposing White Magic continuing to breed and sell dogs with various health issues (heart, tumor, eye, thyroid, etc) even to this day. I also read that the White Magic bloodlines are intertwined somewhat with Polar Mist and Vanderbilt. If I were seeking a puppy from Polar Mist, Vanderbilt, or any other breeders with a history of working with White Magic, how can I be sure that their puppies would be clear of the health issues related to the breeding practices of White Magic?
I’m trying to figure out how deep into the pedigree White Magic’s issues stem, and if there’s any way (perhaps by looking at a pedigree) I can tell that a litter from another breeder hasn’t been completely affected that it’s impossible to avoid. Have other breeders (like polar mist, Vanderbilt etc) stopped the breeding of their dogs they know might have some blood relation to the health-affected WM dogs?
Also does anyone have any testimonials or experience with dog breeders that I would have a much higher chance of steering clear of health problems?
I know OFA / CHIC exists, but is this really enough to tell if a litter has steered clear of health affected bloodlines and would have a higher chance of not having health issues later?
