Photography / Video Winter/Spring Visit to Rome

I'll be visiting Rome in either February or March of 2027. Anything to be aware of when choosing which week to go?

I figure it'll be a little colder in February, and I defintiely won't go during Easter week. Any other advice?

Scoring off-season visits at ColosseumRoman, waits come back at 5 to 7 minutes, and a midday queue that runs 30 to 45 minutes on a sunny peak day drops to 10 to 15 on a wet morning. Bad weather is the closest thing to a cheat code the place has.

For picking the week, two rules. Avoid whichever week holds the first Sunday of the month, because entry is free that day and it pulls the heaviest crowd of the month. And take late February over early March if queues matter more to you than temperature, since spring brings the student groups, pre-booked months ahead and landing at the meeting points by 10.

One more thing to plan around: the winter timetable closes the site at 4:30 with last entry at 3:30. Sources disagree on exactly when it switches over, so check the week you pick.

We went the very last week of March this year to avoid some of the things you mentioned and also larger crowds. Our four days in Rome were sunny and warm. I wore short sleeves. When we got to Florence it was unusually windy and chilly but the crowds were small. Lastly in Venice it was a little chilly but sunny and no huge crowds. That’s what we loved the most!

I'll only be in Rome, so hopefully I just don't get a rainy week!
