Question/Help Is it common for undomesticated rabbits to ‘sploot?’
I’ve been seeing this rabbit on my property for a couple of months and today it ran in front of my path, stopped and splooted. Is it sick/in need of help or did I just make a new friend?

I love seeing this OP!
Where do you think OUR rabbits got it from? :)
Hell mines a lion lop with everything that looks OG rabbit breed out of him and he still does the push down grass behavior from...a million generations ago? 😂

If you are in North America then the domestic rabbits are not related in any way to the wild species there.
Domestic rabbits are all derived from the European wild rabbit.

This is in New York. I assume these are what they call jackrabbits: brownish coat with a white belly and tail. There used to be multi generational rabbits here but about 3-4 years ago they cut back a lot of vegetation at my co-op and they went away. This is only the second one I’ve seen since then.

Feral domestics are invasive in the Americas.
Native leporids like jackrabbits and cottontails are not the same species and can't interbreed with domestic rabbits, feral or otherwise.

Correct. I just meant the general over all behaviors of rabbits. Not that they were local.

Mine do too!! They are used to us hanging around outside and actually come out AFTER we go out :) They will come closer to us after we sit down too!!

Little dude is wondering why the humans don't sploot! "It's cool and comfy here."

I think all animals do. Squirrels are especially cute when they do it and they are wild animals.

This post has become a box of knowledge. I learned a few things I didn’t know for sure. But, yes I’ve seen the wildlings sploot a few times lol
