Dress Code For Québec Restaurants
Bon matin,
My husband and I will be traveling to Québec in two weeks.
I’ve begun putting together our packing list and am curious what the dress code is for:
- Chez Temporal
- Chez Tao!
- Melba
- L’Affaire est Ketchup
- Buvette Scott
Merci pour votre aide!
Smart Casual — A step up from casual: no athletic wear, flip-flops, or ripped jeans. Think collared shirts, nice jeans or chinos, clean shoes.
Business Casual — Slacks or a skirt, a button-down or blouse, closed-toe shoes. No jeans or sneakers typically.
Cocktail Attire — Dresses (knee-length or shorter usually fine) or a suit/sport coat for men. More polished than business casual, less formal than black tie.

We tend to not care about how people are dressed and you'll often see a mix of casual, smart casual in most restaurants. Or smart casual and business casual in slightly higher end restaurants.
Chez Tao, Buvette Scott, L'affaire est Ketchup : Casual
(Do try the papaya salad and the Bao buns at Chez Tao. The cocktails are also probably the best you'll have here if they're as good as I remember)
Chez Temporel and Melba : smarter casual
I wouldn't wear something too sporty at any of those, definitely no flip-flops. Anyway the weather is getting cooler these days so just don't bring them haha.
You can leave the cocktail attire home, you might feel overdressed in most places.

As you guys are traveling: enjoy yourself and go cocktail attire! If you adjust yourself to Quebec City folks, you might end up with affliction and Ed Hardy t-shirts 😂

Almost everything in Montreal and Quebec City is smart casual or less.
The only time I see "cocktail" attire is a wedding.

Not sure for chez temporal, but casual would be ok for every other places. I personally do smart casual.
