Hi, i was just wondering whether uq or qut is better. Im not sure which course i would enter yet, either just bachelor of behavioural science or a double degree with social work. What are the differences in the two unis? And is one better than the other? Thanks!

So I recently graduated with a BA in general psychology, and I've been taking a gap year to figure out my plans for graduate school. I want to be a professor in psychology, specifically in social psychology, however I have no professional research experience. Of course I did research for classes and I even did a capstone project for a special topics class in social relationships, but that along with my 3.520 GPA doesn't make me competitive enough for applications I think. I've considered pursuing a general psychology master's just to gain research experience, but I know it's expensive and I'm already in debt from undergrad and had to receive pell grants, need-based scholarships, etc because I'm come from a low income household and have dealt with some unfortunate things that have left me with no money to be able afford school at all out of pocket. I've also applied for several research assistant positions, both while I was in school and out, but I've been rejected from them all. I'm not sure what to do. It's my dream to be a professor, but it seems like it's out of reach. If anyone who was in a similar situation to me but still got their PhD has any advice, I'd appreciate it.

I'm an international student and have done my undergrad in BS psychology with a 3.8 GPA, looking for programs in IRELAND. My interest is toward the clinical side. Though I'm working in education sector as a researcher. However I am planning to began my masters and set into a more clinical side of psychology. I have also heard it important that I find programs that have placements, but can't seem to find any in ireland.

SO FAR, all the programs I've looked at seems to be similar to what I learned in bachelors.

I’m currently a student at my local community college working towards completing an AA transfer plan in psychology. My goal is to transfer to the university near me, pursue a BA in psychology with a minor in biology and a concentration in advanced research, and try my best to get into their Cognition, Neuroscience, and Social Psychology graduate program.

I’m in my third semester now, and with 4 semesters left of my associate’s, I’ve been accepted into the honors program which gives me a chance to join the undergraduate research experience and present research at the symposium. I’ve looked into joining Phi Theta Kappa’s honor society as well. I plan to receive the Honors Laureate designation before my transfer, and continue with honors at the university. I have 3 letters of recommendation from professors so far.

I have also applied to work in the natural sciences lab in my community college as a dish washer.

My goal is to work in research. Whether it be academia, government, medical, it doesn’t matter to me quite yet. Psychology research is the goal.

Any advice or pointers are much appreciated.

I just starting my journey into going back to school (at age 37) for a masters in Mental Health Counseling. I've always WANTED to be a therapist, but right out of undergrad, I couldn't afford it and I was unable to just make that decision. I'm ready now!

I'm most stressed about the 600 hours of clinical internships! There's one university near me that has a program I like the looks of and it seems like they help place you (but it's a "collaborative effort"). I'm wondering how this works for online schools? Are there any online schools you recommend?

Also, what do these internships look like on the day to day? Any recommendations on places/types of places you enjoyed or didn't enjoy and that were particularly helpful in landing a career after?

I recently graduated with my Bachelor’s in Psychology in Canada, and I’m looking for some guidance on what to do next.

I’m taking some time to figure out what I really want to do and gain some experience, as most of my work experience so far has been in hospitality and teaching ESL at a summer camp. Unfortunately, I didn’t use my time as intentionally as I could have during undergrad, so I never gained research experience, joined any clubs, or built much experience that feels directly relevant to psychology. My CV is looking a little pathetic... I’d like to volunteer, and I’ve already reached out to a local university about potentially getting some research experience. I’m still not entirely sure what direction I want to go in. I wouldn’t say I have one particular passion or area of psychology that I’m set on, but I’ve always enjoyed learning and really enjoyed my psychology courses. I wasn’t a huge fan of research in my courses, but I also don’t want to completely rule it out without actually having any hands-on experience with it.

I know that I eventually want to pursue a master’s degree, but I’m hoping this year will give me some time to explore different areas and become more confident about what I’d like to study. Are there any jobs, volunteer opportunities, or other experiences I should look into during a gap year?

I’d love to hear any advice or suggestions for things I could do during this year to gain experience, explore different career paths, or just get a better sense of what I want to pursue.

I like to browse and follow people on social media who are psychologists and/or pursuing registration and outside of aesthetic day in my lifes and mental health advice, each video lately is just more depressing than the other. Today I saw a skit about how difficult it is to get into clinical psych masters. In the comments someone said they had a 6.9 gpa and 2 years of experience in SSO and still couldn't get in.

That convo made me want to go jump into a ditch. This degree has made me lose sanity how the hell am i supposed to gain relevant experience to help others when I'm on the edge myself???

I'm an undergraduate currently, and part of my degree requires Philosophy or Psychology. Currently I'm in philosophy, but the professor is probably the worst teacher I've ever had in any class I've ever been in. My advisors are saying I can take a 10 week class for PSY-201 and switch out of philosophy. What is the difficulty of PSY-201, and is it possible to have this class in a 10 week period, actually learn, and actually retain the information?

Hi everyone! I am currently a junior in college studying sociology and completing my psych prereqs on the side. I have always known that I want a career in psychology. My passion really lies in clinical psych. For the past several years, I have planned on pursuing a PhD or PsyD, but most likely a PsyD because I don’t think I’d love research that much. I was also planning on getting a masters in MFT or clinical psych before pursuing that. Recently though, I have been thinking a lot about what I actually want to do in the field and I’m feeling super conflicted about what path/program to actually pursue in post-grad. I have really been trying to ignore the draw I feel toward psychiatry because I really don’t think I am fit for chem/physics/mcat and all that comes with medical school. Both of my siblings are in medical school and I cannot see myself enjoying that one bit. But the career and practice of psychiatry itself is honestly what I’d ideally want to do. I am drawn to assessing/diagnosing, more short-term therapy, and I think I really prescribe to the biological model so treating with medication would be a dream for me. This is really why I am feeling conflicted — I don’t think I want to or CAN DO medical school but psychiatry seems like the most perfect fit for me. On the other hand, the actual schooling of a PsyD seems incredibly interesting to me, but I am not sure what exactly my career would look like. I think I’d definitely be happy just solely doing assessments and then referring out (if that’s even a thing people do), whether in private practice or a hospital setting. Anyway im just seeking advice from people in the field — given all of this info, do you think I should do? Thank you all :) !!!

Okay so as the title says, Throughout my BA and MA in clinical psych, i realized i dont wanna be a therapist, especially for adolescents and adults, nothing wrong with such work, im just not strong enough for that. I like working with children or literally anything else other than therapy. when i tell people im doing an MA in clinical psychology but i dont want to be a therapist theyre like okay so a waste of time. id like to believe i have other options are good pay right? id love to hear your experiences if anyone here has a masters in clinical psych but chose not to do therapy/counseling; what did you do?

I’m currently weighing up a few options while applying for a Psychology Conversion MSc and would really appreciate advice from anyone who’s been in a similar position. I did an unrelated undergrad, so this will be my first time studying psychology since A-levels.
1. Full-time vs part-time
I’ve heard some full-time conversion courses only have teaching on a few set days per week, allowing students to work alongside them. How manageable is this in practice? Would you recommend working alongside a full-time MSc?
2. Part-time + relevant experience
I’m also considering doing the MSc part-time over 2 years so I could potentially work in a relevant psychology role alongside it. Could this be a good strategy for eventually applying for the DClinPsy, as I’d ideally have 2 years of relevant experience by the time I graduate? Or is it difficult to get relevant roles before completing the MSc/GBC?
3. University prestige
How important is the reputation/prestige of the university for getting psychology experience or eventually securing a place on a DClinPsy? Would choosing a more prestigious university make a meaningful difference?
4. Choosing a pathway
I’m fairly sure I want to pursue clinical psychology, but I’m not 100% certain yet. Does that change how I should approach the MSc and gaining experience?
Any advice, particularly from people who’ve taken the conversion → experience → DClinPsy route, would be really appreciated

I just want to know if anyone could let me know what the scheduling is like for classes if you’ve done MPP or MCP at any unis in Newcastle, Sydney or online.

I am finishing my honours at ISN and I’ve really been enjoying that classes are scheduled only on Wednesday and Thursdays as it makes my schedule really predictable.

I currently work the rest of the week as a counsellor.
I really value working plus studying part time and I’d really like to know if anyone has any information on if the unis have classes often scheduled only certain days or maybe evenings?

I have applied for ISN I just was hoping there might be another uni out there that has lower fees but are still manageable with working part time without me having to swap around my work days every term.

Whilst I've read the university guides I don't feel like I know very much about the process.

hello i’m in my first semester of senior year and i have no research experience. i was originally going for PA school and my professors knew this and didn’t let me join any of their labs because of it. long story short, i want to continue psychology and get my PHD in clinical psych. but i know i will not be competitive enough with just 1 year of research (assuming i can get into a lab this year lol).

once i do graduate, should i just go for my masters to gain research? there’s not many research assistant jobs near me and post bacc programs seem to be very expensive too.

there’s a few research heavy masters programs near me that aren’t super expensive and they cover some tuition too so i’m wondering if that’s worth it.

Hey everyone! I’m a undergrad psychology student in the EU, planning ahead for short summer programs in 2027 (late June to late July).

I’m currently looking at 4-6 weeks options in Europe (like Radboud in the Netherlands for cognitive/brain science, or UAB Barcelona) and in Asia (Korea University ISC). My target budget is capped around €3,000–€8,000 total for tuition and campus housing.

I don’t currently have an official IELTS/TOEFL score and would really prefer not to drop €200+ on one if my university transcript (showing passed English coursework) is accepted. I can take one if strictly necessary, but I'd rather save that money for the actual program. I’ve mostly been searching individual university websites, so my list of options feels pretty limited right now.

Is it actually worth the money? Did you learn anything useful for your degree, or did it feel like paying a high price for a short holiday?

Where else can I search for low-cost psychology summer schools/programs?

Does having a short summer program on your CV help when applying for a Psych Master's later, or do professors ignore it?

my CV shows a deep and committed interest in spiritual care for queer and trans people. i founded and run a group (5 years). i’ve been training in mindfulness for 15 years with teachers/mentors/programs. i take queer studies classes. i worked a queer crisis text line. i’m getting my BA in psychology.

i know i need more volunteer experience. one of my professors recommended working a DV shelter, but im worried that level of intensity won’t mesh with my life right now.

i have an opportunity to volunteer as a chaplain working with transgender women who are recovering from gender affirming surgery. i’d like to pursue this.

my question is about leaning so heavily in this one direction as opposed to showing more diversity in my experiences. do admissions like to see someone with a focus like this, or do they prefer more range?

Hello everyone! I’m currently a first year psychology student in Australia and I have a friend who was diagnosed with chronic health conditions at the age of 18 a couple years back. This has sparked my interest in better understanding the psychological and mental health effects that a chronic health diagnosis can have, particularly when someone is diagnosed at a young age.

I think I’m interested in this from more of supportive perspective. I’d like to learn more about how people psychologically adjust to living with a chronic condition and the potential effects it can have on things like mental health, identity, relationships, and quality of life.

Hi my end goal is to do a master's in Australia and live there (I know it is more complicated then I am typing) but I want to do therapy mostly and want to work in 'forensic' and psychiatric hospitals,do 1 on 1 long and short term maybe assessment if possible and work in a team.

It is between the 1+5 or a master in social work.

The academic reason is that here you have to be a clinical psychologist to do what I want and that is basically impossible here.

Is it better to do masters in social work and do the two years and become a MHSW or do the 5+1 to become a psychologist?

I really want to do what I described but that is only possible overseas and I have to put personal problem into consideration to and the options are Australia,new Zealand or Canada,but I hear new Zealand isn't the best now for mental health workers.

Any advice would be appreciated.
