Right!? Like why do people think we have so many health problems now? Parents are washing their kids with soap but apparently theyâve stopped washing their mouths out with soap!! đ§ź

You should never power wash a roof. Use a very low-pressure washer if necessary, but you should use a chemical that kills mold and wash it off gently.

Wow, looks great! I wonder if it is better for roof longevity to just leave it alone though? The power wash has gotta be tough on the shingles.

Thank you!! Thatâs a good question. You definitely canât just go to town on roof shingles or a lot of other brittle surfaces. But using mild dish soap or in this case I used (30 seconds Outdoor Cleaner) it didnât seem to hurt it. And the home owner himself had used the same 30 second Outdoor Cleaner a year or two before without any issues. The shed itself is approximately 6 years old. What does hurt the shingles is getting the wand to close to the shingles. Especially if youâre running 3000+ psi. Very quickly it can take loose chunks and even strip bits of the aggregate off of the shingle and even tear/cut the shingle. With my particular pressure washer setup at 3300 psi I held the wand at least 6 inches to a foot away from the shingles and kept the wand facing downward đ

Youâre not even supposed to brush roofs. Shouldnât be using a pressure washer anywhere near asphalt shingles. The proper way to clean them is by spraying a strong bleach solution (~5% sodium hypochlorite) on with a surfactant like roof snot and leaving it alone to let rain rinse the roof. Usually this is done with a 12cv pump. 30 second outdoor cleaner is just overpriced bleach FYI.

Itâs terrible for the shingles and asphalt shingles should never be pressure washed.

Powerwashing asphalt shingles is never a good idea. You are shortening the lifespan of that roof by removing the granules. Itâs probably okay for a shed. But donât expect the roof to last the full 20 years.
