World Postcard Day Reminder!

Hello guys!

The "let's get ready!" WPD blog post is out! It has hopefully all the answers about how the WPD works, so if anyone asks, you can send them right to the blog.

What was already mentioned before is that this year, you can only send up to 5 postcards on October 1st. This is so that everyone has a chance to send some postcards and the system does not run out of suitable addresses.

The Postcard Lounge will also be open again! You can come and write postcards with us on a call, or just watch the livestream on YouTube.

Have a nice weekend and happy Postcrossing!

Subreddit Rules!

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

We've finally put together some much needed rules for our little subreddit. These may still be updated or adjusted, but hopefully they'll make things a little clearer for everyone.

The main change is that messages on the backs of postcards should be blurred or hidden when shared. This includes posts related to Jürgen or Becky as well, unless the post is specifically asking for help with translation or deciphering the message. On the other hand postcard IDs may stay visible.

Please take a look at the rules below:

Follow Postcrossing’s Community Guidelines
Please follow Postcrossing’s Community Guidelines, Reddit’s Content Policy, and Reddiquette when participating here. These apply alongside the rules below.

Be kind and respectful
Treat others with courtesy. Always try to improve the conversation and set a good example for newcomers. Remember to criticize ideas, not people. No trolling, harassment, personal attacks, hate speech, or mocking other members.

Keep posts relevant to Postcrossing
This subreddit is for Postcrossing-related discussion: postcards, mail, stamps, profiles, writing, sending/receiving experiences, questions, tips, and community conversation. Do not post requests for postcards without offering postcards in exchange.

Protect privacy
Do not post anyone’s address, name, private messages, or other personal information. If you share photos of postcards, make sure personal details and messages are blurred or hidden. Requests for help with translation or deciphering handwriting are allowed, but will be removed after some time.

No advertising or promotion
No advertising, self-promotion, referral links, shop links, fundraising, social media promotion, or promotion of other Reddit communities. This subreddit is for discussion, not marketing.

Do not derail conversations
Keep comments relevant to the post and respectful toward the person sharing it. Posts showing received or outgoing postcards are not invitations to criticise the sender’s or recipient’s taste.

With the rules in place, you can help us moderate the community by using the subreddit-specific report options. However content breaking Reddit's policies should still be reported by the default report options.

If you have any feedback or suggestions, feel free to let us know! We will take them into consideration as we review the rules in the future.

Happy Postcrossing!

Trying to figure out how to send and receive postcards from you guys!

Upvotes

Hi there as you can see I'm pretty new to all this use of reddit.
I'm 35f from Aus and use to love sending postcard to my family and friends but as I got older things happen and suddenly sending things looks like it was in a decline.
Recently the past year I've been trying to pick up my old
Hobbies of journaling and picking up a pen instead of my devices so here I am.
Anyone interested in sending postcard to me and vice versa?

Questions Gifted Postcards- to send or not to send?

Upvotes

My friends often bring me postcards when they go on vacations because they know I like them. They don't mail them though and they don't have any messages on them. I'm torn on whether I should use them for Postcrossing or keep them as little keepsakes of my friends' adventures. What would you do?

"Accounts may not be opened by businesses or for third parties."

Post image

EDIT: Maybe ten minutes after they signed up, the account was removed. Well done moderators for keeping an eye out on sign-ups!

I like to have a browse through the "what is happening now" tab every so often because it's fun, and just now I clicked on the profile of a user who had only just signed up. I'm not entirely sure, but I can't think of a non-malicious or at the very least non-spammy/advertising reason why a search-engine optimization marketing company would create an account on Postcrossing. The terms of service also forbid businesses from opening accounts. Is there a way to report an account, or have I misread the terms somewhere? They've not signed up for long so it's understandable the account hasn't been moderated.

Can anyone identify this Lisbon Polaroid postcard? Tram 28 + Licor Beirão — looking for the original publisher/photographer

Post image
Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to find this exact postcard from Lisbon, Portugal. My friend recently went to Portugal and bought this postcard. She really liked it but lost it and was really sad. i want to buy it for her to surprise her.

It is a Polaroid-style postcard with a photograph of Tram 28 carrying a Licor Beirão advertisement. The bottom says “Lisboa” in a handwritten-style font.

I've already contacted:

Edições 19 de Abril — not theirs

Casa dos Postais — not theirs

Lisboa Shop — not theirs

I've searched Etsy, Zazzle, eBay and Delcampe without finding it.

I'm particularly interested in identifying the photographer, publisher or shop that originally sold it.

I'm in Canada and would like to buy several copies if anyone knows where I can find them.

Any help identifying this would be hugely appreciated!

Questions I only bought them like a month or two ago, do they still work? (UK)

I had to post 2 letters for the first time in my life a few weeks ago, but i haven’t received anything back yet, and the anxiety is starting to really get to me.

I bought these in person directly from royal mail near the start of August, so i assumed they’d still be valid, but when i looked it up the website said i’d need stamps with a bar code and now i feel sick

Postage Another Discount Postage Experience....

I included the receipts, appropriately redacted. The 25/32/33 cent stamps were 40% off of face value. The 10 cent stamps were 44% off face value.

Shipping was Zero. It was mailed USPS in a reused Omaha Steak box (I ain't mad...) with their cost being $10.50 in postage/tracking/insurance.

Soooo... at least 40% offa face value for a cost of $110, then they ATE 10.50 in shipping (though I dunno if that was policy or accident)

Product was well packed.

Order was placed on 1Sept26, received 4Sept26.

Ebay: Henry Gitner Philatelists.

Nice assortment in excellent condition. Particularly jazzed about the Aerospace/OuterSpace related ones like the 1975 Apollo Soyuz stamp........

My recipient listed several interests, one of which was old comics (including Tintin), and another was space. Though I'm unsure whether this Tintin card is supposed to be a space suit or underwater suit, it looks close enough. And I was really pleased that I still had several older space stamps i could pair with the newer Barbie astronaut stamp! 👨‍🚀🚀🌌✨️

My recent outgoing postcards that I posted this morning!

One is in an envelope as the receipt mentioned she loves tea so I also added my favourite teabag for her (Pukka Lemon, ginger and Manuka honey 🍋🫚🍯 ). One for someone who likes postcards about your local area/town. Two for people who love the ocean and one for someone who loves flowers & nature 🌺

Questions I have a question

Upvotes

Does anyone recommend a website to order custom made postcards? Some I see like VistaPrint, want me to order like 25, 100, 500, 1000. I don't want that many. I would like to make some postcards from my pictures on my phone. Maybe 1-5 postcards/picture. I have several pictures. Thanks in advance. 📫

I was busy for a bit and am catching up on my slots, forum, and direct swaps!

I’ll post a few on here separated out every day until I’ve shared my favorite ones and so the individual cards can get the spotlight they deserve 😊💌✨
