Shoutout 80’s/early 90’s baby’s

After multiple hand surgeries and actually losing the use of one wrist, I decided to give clay therapy a try. 40ish hours later, I present the Celtic goddess Morrigan.

Helloo! I was wondering how to make an idea I have: a lighter case with a heart with four wings, the big ones open and the small ones hugging the heart. The heart would be stabbed with a sword and some nails.

My problem is, I don't know if I should make it in steps, like first make the heart, bake it, then make the wings and assemble everything once it's already baked, or if I should make it all at the same time and bake it together.

Also, if there's a better way to do it, or if the idea is too complex for a lighter case, please let me know.

I used soft pastel on my project before baking and it looked pretty pigmented, but after baking for 30 mins all of the color is pretty much gone. I guess I should’ve been more heavy handed, but I do have very cheap pastels. does anyone have any brand recommendations? would the faber-Castell ones work?

My friend is *obsessed* with creme eggs and I like a challenge, so made her these earrings as a gift.

First polymer clay creation (as an adult) and I made a tiny pumpkin! Also, can anyone link a good non-stick mat or anything else that can be used as a work surface? I tried to get one of those cutting mats, but as you can see in the photo the clay kept sticking to it.

I have a small black cat I was making for my sister that looks worse after applying Varathane to it.

I was trying to be careful by only using a tiny bit for a thin coat, but that was the thing to cause the problem 😔

I've only applied one coat so far. Will it look better after the second? Is there any way to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated 😥

The box is made from slate tile, wrapped and sculpted in sculpey premo clay and painted with acrylic paints. I lined it with felt after laser engraving the design on it. The page is watercolor paper that I aged and also used the laser on and finished with paint.

One week later and I just finished my own version of Tequila Gundam!

The build process was pretty lengthy due to needing post-build sanding to create more even surfaces all over the body. Made with extra firm Cosclay, foil, and armature wire.

A few people told me that I could use clear nail polish to seal in my clay.

I was just using mod podge at first, but sometimes it would become super sticky. But not all the time.

For my most meaningful piece, I needed the seal to be thicker and clearer. So I asked a couple of artists and they all said that nail polish would be perfect.

Im mad at myself for trusting those people because I just looked it up, and everywhere it says dont use it.

Well I already shipped my piece out and the person I gave it to, absolutely LOVES it. And now im so scared and sad that it will be ruined in a few months.

Does anyone know if there is something I can do to keep it from getting ruined?

And are there any other good sealers out there other than resin?

(Picture will be explained) I’m looking to experiment with my nails in more 3D ways. I would ask this in one of the nail communities but the style of art I’m going for is something I rarely see in those communities. I ask here because you all have more whimsy. I want the level of detail that polymer clay provides. I hope this doesn’t break any rules, if it does, I understand and I’ll continue looking for answers.

I have solid (molding) gel specifically for nails, but it doesn’t keep its shape, has chemicals that break my skin out preventing me from using my bare hands, and is frankly very expensive for how much I use. I read that polymer clay can be used for charms. I have a tiny bit of experience with polymer from years ago when I made a mushroom house candle jar (it’s long gone by now and I don’t have pictures unfortunately)

I’m looking to do something a little out of the normal than simple charms. I want to sculpt the characters and tiny mushroom house like a3D painting (like those vintage cameo pendants). I like the way polymer clay keeps its shape no matter how long I’m working on them, unlike solid sculpting gel. I can add 3d textures to the fur, grass, hollow out the window etc.

I’ve gotten mixed answers about using gel polish on polymer clay, Saying it yellows over time and chips. Would these be an issue since the nails are temporary? Or were those concerns mainly for people who are making sculptures or jewelry charms? They won’t be worn long enough to yellow (unless there’s some kind of reaction that occurs with polymer clay and gel polish)

Is UV resin safe to wear? I would be curing everything separately of course. Nothing would be put on my hands until the final product is completed. I’d assume it would be safe by then but I need to ask.

And lastly, this is purely for my enjoyment. I am not selling anything, I’m learning, experimenting, and having fun.

I know I said last time that I would take step-by-step pictures of the process, but I was really burnt out this week and just wanted to relax. I will do instructions for my next project!

I painted these beads with cheap nail polish. Kinda screwed up and didn't bend the bead backs before inserting into the clay, so I had to secure them with glue. Still, I like the overall look.

Just opened a variety pack of polymer clay and I'm trying to decide whether to pack them for college or leave them. Will these be fine in 4+ months like this or will they spoil/harden?
