By the time today's teenagers were born, compact discs were old news.

But just as music lovers rediscovered vinyl records decades after albums were digitized, CDs are once again selling like hotcakes.

Recent data from the Recording Industry Association of America shows that overall recorded music revenue increased nearly 7% in the first six months of 2026, driven by a 58.6% year-over-year increase in demand for CDs.

Vinyl rose 17.7% and streaming climbed 4.7%.

According to RIAA's Matt Bass, the data reflects a "healthy, diversified marketplace."
