Discussion struggling as a JO
recently checked into my first ever ship and I have been struggling a lot. I genuinely feel that I am not good at anything and while I am ahead of my quals, I am significantly behind someone that checked in at the same time as me. Despite being relatively new, I have made very poor impressions on the wardroom and captain and started to isolate myself from them. I feel hopeless and everyday feels like a battle. Did anyone else go through something similar or have any advice?

Discussion Navy BBA perspective
Currently an E5 and been in 8 years and currently on a tour for 4 years with this tour taking me to my 12th year. If im being honest im really not trying to play the whole game with picking an undesirable billet to rank up. Im just going to wait until an E6 billet opens up and try and take that one. After that Iām more than likely going to get out and go reserves and go contracting. This last cycle on the last NWAE (Fall 2025) before the first RKE I maxed out at an 80 (99th percentile) and had over a 4.0 rsca scoring a 150 but I still didnāt make it. Any other time in my career that wouldāve been enough to make E6 with flying colors. They implemented the way for BBA so it felt like a big slap in the face. Itās not worth it to me anymore especially if I want to start the chase to make chief. This program is no doubt filling the gaps in the fleet but I feel like itās definitely at the cost and expense of a lot of E5s that have been in for a while. Maybe I need some perspective? Kind of just a rant because Iām honestly burnt out and rather would get out happy than be bummed out for the rest of my career.

Discussion What helped you decide to stay in or get out?
E5. 6 years in. Single. Currently on a ship and decided ship life is not for me. I'd like to go LDO when I make First and I'd likely be back on a ship. After my shore tour, that'll put me at 10. I want to get my degree in the next four years. The only things that have kept me in is, the job security and medical/dental healthcare, the routine, and the fact that things have been going well for me so far.
There are certain that l dislike about the military and have wondered if I want to do this for the next 14 years. Having to study for exams, performing just to get good evals, deployments, being responsible for things that others did, leading others, DC and out-of-rate quals, etc. I know there would be things in a civilian job that I wouldn't like as well, but I sometimes feel as though the military is a different beast.
What made you decide to stay in or what made you want to get out? Was the other side greener for you? What should I consider before getting out or staying in?

HELP REQUESTED Temporarily keeping BAH while PCSing ahead of Dependents
I'm looking for the name of the program (and possibly a link to the instruction/MILPERSMAN) governing keeping my BAH in my current location temporarily after I PCS due to my wife and son staying in our current residence/location for ~90 days before joining me on Accompanied Orders.
The program is separate from OHA, TLA, TLE and DLA.
I remember seeing the possibility of this before I left my last command 6 months ago, but I've been on leave for the last 4 months (a good mix of detailer assistance setting up my PCS, Paternity Leave, Convalescent Leave, and regular leave) and after not thinking about it for so long, I've totally forgotten how to find it again!
Any help is appreciated!

As we pulled into the mouth of the Thames River, this pulled up next to us and stayed abreast all the way until we turned into the ferry landing. General Dynamics and the sub base at Gales Ferry are within swimming distance.
Anyone know what type this is?

HELP REQUESTED Euro to USD for travel expenses?
Navy Reserves here. Just returned home after three weeks and doing my expenses. I have my receipts so no worries there. Used my GTCC for everything except for a few places that didnāt accept credit cards for lunch / dinner but thatāll be per diem anyway.
A couple of questions:
I know I have to separate taxes out from the hotel and rental car but the receipts are just in EUROS. Whatās the best way for me to do that?
Iām guessing I just look up the conversion rate on the day of the transaction and hope the numbers work out to match the final charge on the CC statement. (Thatās going to be a total pain in the ass.) Or I could calculate the tax rate in EUROS (tax / total in euros) then multiple that by the USD amount.
I just donāt want to do this and then it get kicked back a half dozen times.

HELP REQUESTED DD214 incorrect sep date, how do I get this fixed?
Hello all, I am currently trying to convert my SGLI to a VGLI and I am running into an issue where because they cut me my DD214 āearlyā for skillbridge, so I wouldnāt have to come back, they did not put my correct sep date and instead put my skill bridge start date. To convert your SGLI to a VGLI you have a window and Iām past it due to this when in reality I officially separated on 180 days later than that.
I remember pointing this out when I was heading for terminal leave and everyone acted like it wasnāt a big deal. Dumb me, now I need it fixed and have no CoC to inquire with. Who would handle something like this?

HELP REQUESTED Questions about flight deck gear authenticity (VFA-211 ~2005)
Hey everyone,
āIām a enthusiast who recently got into USN flight decks, and Iām currently building a green jersey crewman loadout for VFA-211, early 2000s. I want to make it realistic as possible and would love some input from anyone who spent time on the deck or someone who knows something about it.
āI have a few specific questions:
ā1) I bought a VFA-211 green vest (first picture). Does the black vertical stripe on the back signify a specific role like a maintainer or is it just cosmetic?
ā2) Iām currently customizing my own helmet and mocked up a tape design (second picture). I want to incorporate the black and white troubleshooter checkered pattern but also keep the VFA-211 red in there. Is a layout like this realistic for the early 2000s?
ā3) Can green jerseys actually be troubleshooters, or is that exclusively a white jersey role? I saw a video (third picture) of a green jersey wearing the black and white checkered pattern with "2T" on the cranial, which is what inspired this specific build and which I'd like to be.
4) Is there a list of the roles or letters that are on the cranials? Like M(aintenance), W(eapons), O(rdnance), etc. I would like to portray the right role on the deck considering the markings on the vest I bought.
Thanks much in advance for any help you guys can provide! I'll be glad to hear some extra info, fun facts or your personal experiences, too :)
