I recently had my glasses fitted with a new prescription, but I had an uncomfortable experience during the eye exam. The optometrician wasn't very approachable, and I felt overwhelmed because I didn't fully understand some of her explanations.
I told her that my vision had become more blurry since my last checkup. She checked me with the autorefractor, trial lenses, broken-line/green-red tests, and letter tests. However, I don't remember doing the part where both eyes are open and I'm asked which lens is clearer.
She kept telling me that my prescription was the same as before and that my grade was "mababa lang." She then said we could try a higher prescription and gave me 1.00. I told her that the 1.00 was clearer, and we compared the lenses again. I still found the 1.00 clearer.
After back and fourth, she then did agree to put the 1.00 prescription in my glasses, but she repeatedly warned me that it could cause side effects like dizziness and that they wouldn't be liable for it. I understood that and accepted it. She also told me to go outside and check how it felt. I came back and said it was okay, but honestly, by that point I was already overwhelmed and just agreed.
I'm not saying she should have given me the 1.00 prescription just because I found it clearer. I understand that a higher prescription isn't automatically better and that there may be reasons not to prescribe it.
My concern is more about how the consultation was handled. I felt like I wasn't being properly heard when I explained what I could and couldn't see. She kept going back to my prescription being the same, saying it was "mababa lang," and attributing the blurriness partly to my lifestyle/gadget use, as if she knows my life. I sleep more than I use phone, and I only use it kapag magrereview and stuff. I eventually became quiet because I didn't know what else I was supposed to say, I was overwhelmed and just keep on agreeing.
Now I'm unsure whether the 1.00 prescription that I agreed to receive is actually the right prescription for me, especially because I felt too overwhelmed during the consultation to properly ask questions or make a confident decision.
For those familiar with eye exams: does the process I described sound normal, or are there other tests that are normally done before determining the final prescription?
This is also my previous prescription the only difference sa binigay nya the -0.75 is now -1.0
Left: –0.75 SPH, 0.00 CYL
Right: –0.50 SPH, –0.50 CYL
I also haven't gotten my glasses pa, so I still don't know what to expect. Do you think I should go to their other branch and ask if I could get my eyes checked again? I'm thinking of doing that just to compare the results and see if the parts of my prescription that she said hadn't changed are actually still the same. I honestly don't know if the prescription we came up with is correct, so I feel like getting a second check might help me be sure.
