Is summer reddit extra insufferable this year or am I just cranky in my old age?

Summer Reddit feels stronger than it's ever been. Has anyone else seen an uptick in super-low-effort, childish/child-like, or otherwise unusually-immature postings in your groups?

I have seen an increase when it comes to bots the last couple of months. Especially comments. But posts too. As in, more than usual.

Yeah, it's definitely worse. My hypothesis is the COVID elementary schoolers are now in high school.

Also, I have the running theory that Reddit is generally worse in moments of geopolitical turmoil, even outside of political subreddits. These last couple of months have been extra bumpy as you could imagine.

Those same teenagers have under-developed social skills AND just general anxiety about the world around them. They're using the internet in tandem with adults who are also stressed. It's a bad time all around.

Edit: oh, and the bots have been brutal the last few days.

Good theory. I have noticed an uptick in dumb smart people. I am way older though. I noticed sometime ago I got "Elder" as a tag too lol

We’re getting so many bots posting in ours. Either plagiarizing old posts outright, or sneakily trying to post something I’ve removed on ten other accounts… as if I won’t see those myself. I’m guessing they just have more time on their hands.

I made a post asking a pretty inncuous question and got attacked. Ive been around a long time and turn that magical 55yo on the 17th. I think I am going to make my profile private so people cant mass downvote me. I had it on before and sadly I think it is a great thing they added.

I've been here a long time, and I always laugh when the school year starts and there's a whole new group of kids sharing cock flavored soup photos everywhere...happens every year!

I'm seeing an increase in low quality and karma farming posts. The number of comments has decreased. It's becoming Instagram.
