In 2010-2012 Google got caught mapping home networks using Google Street View and blamed a random programmer for inserting a test application into the production code.

That programmer went off to run the company that did Pokémon Go, which was discovered to be a massive data harvesting operation on an unprecedented scale using software he accidentally put into googlr street view. That company was at least partly owned by Google.

They are absolutely doing shady evil shit. Its just not as obvious because we like Pokémon and gmail.
