Work In Progress A part of my "low fantasy" world really looks like Europe. and i want to know if it's a bad thing.
I wanted to ask if it is a bad thing for a map to look so alike the real world ?
I'm not trying to be especially original with this continent map especially but I wanted to know if this could impact a story or believability in a negative way ?
Nothing is definitive just yet, especially the rest of the world.
Edit : I made a mistake calling this a low fantasy world, I would like to apologies. it's more grounded fantasy than low fantasy.
Also thank you everyone for all the comments i'm trying my best to answer everyone but i never had that many people comment before

Work In Progress Help me polish my map
Hello internet, this is a part of my fantasy map, it is still a work in progress. What u r see in is the map is a huge part of a continental empire and an economic heartland of the world. It sits between 25 and 40 degrees north. I would love some feedback, observations or ideas from u!
Pls Forgive any spelling mistake, English is not my first language :)
Edit: in honor of this comment section I will be making heavy Poland inspired region with Hussars, vodka and polish names with no vocals at all. Some of ur ideas will be canon.
Actually I will visit Poland for the first time on September so if any of u polish enthusiasts have some recommendations to places to visit in krakow I would love to hear about it :)

Work In Progress Does this region feel believable/realistic?
Thanks to some help from the sub on a previous post, I’ve been figuring out the geography of this region a little more.
For context from the previous post: this is for the setting of a D&D campaign I’m running and while there’s a lot of high fantasy goings-on, I wanted this region to be quite grounded and realistic. The giant inland lake is supposed to be of similar size to the Great Lakes and measures about 300-350 miles across (1 hex being the equivalent of 50 miles).
The canal marked with anchors on the west is a man (well, Dwarf)-made canal, considered one of the wonders of the world.
There will be a large free-standing city at the heart of the lake (both above and below the water) that is the nation’s Capital, and some other populated islands, though the majority of the population are going to live on the surrounding landmass, divided into regions based on the different in-and-out-flows of the lake.
Does this all feel coherent and ‘realistic’? Anything that stands out in a bad way?

Work In Progress Is there a geographical term for this kind of area?
I’ve reworked a map I’m making for my book that I had posted in here a while back. I know this probably isn’t the best subreddit for this question, but is there a term for the circled area on my map? Like, valley is the closest I can think of, but it seems too big to be considered a valley. Basin seems wrong too. Dale or Hollow are also things I’ve considered, but again they feel like terms that apply to smaller areas than what this is supposed to cover.
Any suggestions?

Work In Progress My take on the Greek Ancient World
I just finished drawing this map that I’ll use for my Greek Mythology AU/Retelling. I incorporated all of the mediterranean, as well as some areas acknowledged by Ancient sources, but also tweaked some things around to make it look good and organic. I tried including as many places as I could find when researching, but I’d like to add more! I’m very open to suggestions and questioning. Jumpscare warning for the very first version I made of it months ago 💀

Work In Progress Too much Europe?
This is a WIP and a low quality pic. I'm just looking to make a "Europe but Not Europe" map and I think maybe it's too much Europe .... thoughts?

Work In Progress is it okay to draw a canyon on my fantady world map?
i figured it would be boring if the deset canyon part of the map is only drawn like mountains, so i drew them like actual canyon cliffs

Work In Progress Desert in the equator?
Currently drafting the satellite map, noticed that I've just made a MASSIVE desert centred directly on the equator.
I've got moderate mountains east of the desert and a MASSIVE mountain range west of it.
Is it plausible? I really like the idea of a desert in that location but every time I work on this project I keep thinking about the largest desert on this planet that I feel might not belong and ruins my vibe.

Work In Progress WIP, does my continent look ok? Be honest, anything blatantly bad looking about it?
Red is mountains (roughly) light blue is ocean/sea, darker blue is rivers

Work In Progress Which shape is preferable to you?
This is a continent map, not a world map.
- First image is very sea and peninsula heavy.
- Second image leaves more room for mountainous regions. Looks a bit more natural imo, but loses shape.

Work In Progress Planet Map Generator
This is an update on the project I'm working on. While still not being where I would like it to be I've added a plate tectonics simulation and erosion simulation. I still need to add climate simulation for accurate weathering and biome simulation as well as various other erosion type sims. I also need to optimise it for larger map sizes as right now it takes a while to run through the various simulation stages.
