I’m from a town in the uk with little to no rap music scene, there’s zero open mics, small events or anything to meet people I can work with. How do I get my name out there other than just Reddit?

Opportunity New Artist Looking for a Producer to Build With

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m a new artist looking for a producer who’s willing to work with someone who’s just getting started. My goal is to put together and release an album. I already have songs written, but some of them may be easier to finish once I can hear actual music and production behind them. I know this is a hip-hop sub, but my music crosses into different genres, including indie pop, EDM, R&B, and hip-hop. I’m open to experimenting and seeing where the music takes us. I may not have much to offer financially right now, but I’m willing to split whatever we create and release together. I’m mainly looking for someone who’s passionate about making music, wants to grow alongside another new artist, and is willing to believe in me and what I’m trying to create. If you’re interested, feel free to reach out. I’d love to hear your work and talk about what we could create together.

Opportunity If you’re an independent rapper trying to get press, stop leading with “I just dropped a new single”

Upvotes

I work professionally in music PR/media relations, and one of the most common weaknesses I see in artist pitches is that the entire pitch is basically:

“I'm an upcoming rapper and I just released a new song.”

The problem is that thousands of people can say the exact same thing.

A better question is:

What makes your story different?

Maybe you're:

  • building a real scene in an overlooked city
  • producing everything yourself
  • bringing together two cultures or sounds
  • documenting something happening in your community
  • developing an unusual visual style
  • building momentum through shows
  • collaborating with someone noteworthy
  • making a project around a genuinely interesting concept

That is usually much easier to pitch than:

“Please listen to my song.”

And before paying anyone for PR, I'd make sure you have:

  • 2–3 strong photos
  • a short bio
  • a clear artist story
  • clean music links
  • a defined sound/audience
  • multiple pieces of content
  • an actual reason you're approaching media now

You don't need to pretend you're bigger than you are.

In fact, a specific and authentic story is usually much stronger than trying to sound like the “next big thing.”

Curious for the artists here who have tried getting blogs, podcasts, radio or other media:

What part has been the hardest — finding contacts, getting replies, figuring out your story, or knowing what to pitch?

Discussion I recorded my first rap but I'm absolutely mortified at the prospect of playing it for anybody

Upvotes

(I posted this a few minutes ago but it got removed because I included a link to the song upon request — I'm sorry, mods!!!!)

I've dabbled in many different artistic mediums, and have been producing instrumental hip hop for the better part of a decade. But I've never rapped until now, and while I think what I recorded was pretty good, there's this strong internal judgement I'm making of myself, because the idea of an upper-middle class white guy deciding to start rapping at 40 feels parodic and embarrassing.

The thing that's always tripped me up is what to rap about. The rap I enjoy tends to be about subject matter that doesn't actually resonate with me on a personal level at all. I love hip hop that's about the street life, the rap game, drug dealing, and so on, but the idea of ME rapping about that stuff, even as an alter ego, feels deeply inauthentic and just wrong.

But then the TV show Scandal, of all thins, inspired a solution. The idea of being a gangbanger doesn't appeal to me on any level, but the idea of being an elite mover-and-shaker, a fixer who lives in the shadows and pulls the strings, does appeal to some part of me. That's not a life I want to live, but there is a LITTLE part of me somewhere that thinks hey, that'd be really fucking cool. It's similar to how I feel watching heist movies.

So I built a song around that theme instead. And it was SO fun and satisfying. Strictly from the level of craft, writing bars plays to all of my strengths: It's all about rhythm, vocabulary, articulation, wordplay, and the creative use of language. I love that shit. And in contrast with screenwriting, it works well with my short attention span, because you can just write four lines at a time as opposed to mapping out a story arc over the course of 100 pages.

I have no idea what I'm going to do with this. I'm still rapping about shit I have no experience in, and I wonder if the best way to put myself at ease would be to create and release any rap I make under an alter ego. And the idea of creating an alter ego is actually kind of appealing to me, though also completely foreign.

Anyway. I would love to hear anybody's thoughts on this, especially if you've struggled with self-doubt the way I am.

EDIT: Wow, I really didn't anticipate getting this much encouragement. You guys are awesome, for real, thank you so much for your tips, encouragement and perspectives. What a great community.

Music Artist looking for producers to collaborate and experiment with

Upvotes

Hey! I’m an artist working on a passion project with some friends, and I’m looking to meet more producers who’d be down to collaborate and experiment together. I’m into electronic pop, hip-hop, club music and more experimental stuff, and I’m especially interested in finding ways to blend those sounds with Arabic influences.

I have a strong direction for the project, and I’d love to work with someone
who enjoys playing around with sound, sampling, making interesting arrangements, and taking references or ideas and turning them into something that aligns with the vision. I’m not looking to just buy type beats, I’d rather actually go back and forth and build songs together.

I attached short snippets of two demos I’m working on for the album, Superstar and Angel of Music, just to give an idea of my vocals (demo) and taste. I’ll also link an Arabic/Western style song I really like as an example of the kind of experimentation I’m interested in. I’m not looking to recreate it, but I love how those different influences can exist together.
Song example: https://youtu.be/dyyRGghYB70?si=alo3rCdgFldOFhFe

The album will mostly be sung in English, with some being a mix of both English and Arabic. Production-wise, I want the Arabic influence to run throughout the project, even when it’s subtle. I’m especially interested in working with someone who’s comfortable experimenting with sounds, styles and arrangements they might not typically use. If this sounds like something you’d be into, please dm me some of your work! And if you know someone else who might be a good fit, recommendations are welcome too :) thank you for reading!

Discussion Let’s Work

Upvotes

I don’t really know what to say besides I’m a rapper and I’m trying to get to it! I’d say I’m more of a combination of shock rap and clever bars. I make jokes but in a clever way. I’m pretty versatile when it comes to beats. Depending on the length of the beat is how I’ll approach writing the song. I live in the states MN to be exact and I know of a few really good studios in my area.

My social media presence is non existent besides this account ( I know 😂) But once I get the right songs together that’ll change. I have all of the motivation in the world to write and record. I just don’t know what to do after that. I’d obviously like to promote my music but I’m more of a creative not a savvy promoter or manager. Well hit me up if you’re a producer who’s interested in working with a rapper like me. Hit me up of your a promoter or a manager who can offer guidance. I’m hungry and I’m ready to work!

Resource/Guide Monetising your beat catalog in 2026!?

Upvotes

Wassup everyone, I was wondering what you folks are doing to monetise your beat catalog in 2026?

Do you have a BeatStars page doing well?

Or a youtube channel linking it to your own beat store on your website?

have you got into sync licensing?

I do like the idea of releasing a producer instrumental album like producers of the late 90's early 2000s did (DJ Shadow, Pete Rock, J Dilla, RJD2 etc..)

I know the obvious approach is to connect with emcees and singers, network, build relationships in hopes to get placements on albums... to build that way patiently without looking for some shortcut to get rich. I'm just looking for ideas for the now and other avenues to explore besides reaching out to rappers...

Thanks!

Question Not feeling like I'm progressing after 2 years. Need help on how to advance

Upvotes

I purchased a DAW 2 years ago. At first obviously every beat was horrible but after about a year I made 2 beats that I really liked. Since then another year has passed, and I managed to make some other passable beats, but I don't really feel like I'm improving at all.

For starters, I don't feel like I can reproduce good beats. I'd say 1 out of maybe 10-15 beats I make has an idea that's worth considering building on, and maybe out of those 1 in 3 or 4 I actually am able to turn into a decent beat.

I like making beats but I kind of stopped enjoying it lately. I open the DAW with motivation and lose it pretty quickly as ideas just don't come and things I try to put together aren't working really well.

At this point there are not many tutorials that could help me as I already know most if not all of what you would consider "basic" (which are the tutorials provided for free online). Nothing covers sitting in front of an empty canvas and just not being able to make anything.

You could say it's beat block but this has been going on for most of the past year, and while there are a few good beats here and there, I feel uninspired and unable to make anything good for months sometimes.

Any tip on how to improve in this regard is welcome

Discussion Inspiration

Upvotes

RZA’s mixing style has always inspired me. I love how he kept the raw, dusty character of Wu-Tang’s samples while still making the overall mix feel clear and powerful. He never seemed afraid of imperfections he made them part of the sound.

That balance between rawness, clarity, and preserving the soul of the sample is something I really admire and

I even became addicted to listening to old songs, hoping to find something that can i catch a sample out of it

Who inspired you most when you started making your own beats, and what did you learn from them?

Question How do I mix two vocals together so they sound equally loud but are not occupying exactly the same space?

Upvotes

Might be a bad title sorry. I suppose I'm wondering like when I have two vocals together and I want both of them to be heard they often sound like a doubled chorus and it's not a pleasant sound. Eqing and panning the tracks help sometimes but not always and less and less often lately. How can I make vocals play across each other rather than into each other?
