I’m very new to this and a while ago bought a pack of 100 jump rings. I’ve started a project and would like to continue it but I need to find more rings of that specific type. I don’t know how to understand the terms used on the bag to know if the rings from other sellers are the same or if I need to just stick to this seller for these. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated!

A small batch of rings next to my regular 8mm rings

Chainmaille is a recurring hobby and among my crafting odds and ends are 2 bags of rings with ARs of 3 and 6.8. The small rings aren't wide enough for Byzantine and the large rings are too small for Japanese dragonscale. Among what was possible were these weave variants. Wide strap units are sections of modified helm weave connected sideways, like Byzee Bees to Butterflies does with Byzantine. The narrow strap units are 2 box weave subunits attached to a large ring, with 2 more rings to connect the box weave parts to the next unit. Given the number of nicknamed weaves on mailleartisans and maillepedia, do these have names? I haven't seen these documented.

I think i want my first project to be a small bag, something like the picture. What do I need to start? What type or rings (I think I’d like to play with sizes) what tools, any other advice as someone starting for the first time??

Hi folks. I honestly don't even have the gauges or ID of the rings. I just know that there are two sizes of rings, it barely bends as a sheet one way and even less the other. The smaller rings pass through a sort of captive ring as well so it's technically 4-in-1 of sorts, + a captive ring around the small central ring and also the tiny central rings overlap??

They're stainless steel, not that that changes anything 😅

Gonna try and make a snake-y choker-y necklace from it since it bends a little bit to wrap horizontally around. (Hopefully enough for my scrawny neck!)

Hey there, just ordered these patches of galvanized steel chainmail that I want to put on a denim jacket. What i didn't realize is that the zinc coating smells horrendous. Is there any way to get rid of the smell without having it rust like crazy, cleaning would be an issue since it'll be sewed on, or should I just accept the mispurchase and get some stainless steel ones?

Trying to pick this back up after sometime away and am struggling on getting a circular piece weaved (everything online is just about coifs). I want the build out a round bottom for a European 4 in 1 bottle holder but not sure how to go about adding rings to the 6 outer ones to continue expansion. Can anyone give advice or point me to some good resources? Much appreciated!! (started with 1 larger base ring connected to 6 16swg 1/4 rings)

I'd also be needing ring delivery to/in Australia but don't know any reliable sellers except Aussie Maille but they've seriously downsized and don't do steel. Does anybody have suggestions? TIA

Hey folks, I just made up a quick and dirty dome rivet cutting jig for my riveted maille hauberk. This jig simply makes short "studs", which are the perfect size for riveting with the shown riveting pliers. As you can see, the wire gets inserted through the back of the jig, through a nylon tube (to reduce friction). The tube guides the wire through a 2x4, and an aluminum plate which is attached to the opposite face of the 2x4. There's an adjacent 5/16 bolt running through the board and the plate, such that the washer on the head-end of the bolt acts as a "stop" for the wire, portioning it out into perfect rivet length. The bolt is just a home depot bolt, paired with a standard 5/16 ths washer as the "stop" for the wire. The nut between the head of the bolt and thr aluminum plate had to be filed down a bit to get the perfect gap size on the jig. Works well with flush/diagonal pliers. Also works with farrier's pliers, but the clearance is kind of tight, so they have to be filed down on the inner portion of the jaw in order to clear the "stop washer". This is a crude set-up, but once I have the funds I'll probably make a much nicer one. Let me know what you guys think.

Hi all. I'm working on a riveted maille hauberk at the moment, this being my first time making riveted maille. I've figured out all the steps up to the point where I have punched rings, ready to be riveted, however, I'm struggling to find a consistent method for making the rivets themselves. I'm using dome rivets for this project. I need the rivets to be a very consistent length, so that the domes don't end up too big or small. At the moment, I'm using "farrier clippers" in combination with a block with a hole drilled through it, and a common nail acting as a "stop" for the wire. This method works, but the sizes are somewhat inconsistent because my wire isn't perfectly straight (I've already put it through a straightener). I've seen some other jigs, but I don't really have the funds to experiment much at the moment. Let me know what you guys use, if you've come up with something better. Or should I just stick to my current imperfect method and make do?

This is my first time making chainmail ever and I over the last day have been trying different things. Today I’m struggling a bit but wasn’t sure if I was connecting this straight piece to this triangle correctly I feel like the ring isn’t laying how like all the others are in the European 4-1 weave. Is it ok or am I nitpicking.

I'm looking for stainless steel rings or chains 304 or 316L in silver for a project, but it needs to be quite chunky and having issues finding suppliers in the UK or Europe. See pictures, please ignore the black plating, still needs to be stainless steel and silver and also looking for spiked chains as shown in the second picture.

I’ve been making a full riveted mail hauburgen and my batch of brass rings came with rivets that were too small (you can sorta see them taper in image 3), or maybe rings with too big holes. Regardless I have fixed the issue by cutting out 4-5mm long shanks of 16 gauge brass wire and popping them into the riveter, where they promptly bend over instead of mushrooming. Regardless it works
