Tv show intros that change as the series progresses
One of my favorite things about finishing a season of a show is seeing if the intro changes next season. It's fun to watch the intro of the show change over time as the characters change over time.
me too. miss invincible s1. honestly i haven't really caught up to s4 at all, the show's not bad but the scale of it now just has me less interested. it's like the same thing that happened with stranger things. those intros in s1 were so cool too, cause they REALLY matched how everything was escalating. maybe i should rewatch it some day
JoJo’s bizarre adventure - starting in part 3 every part of JoJo’s has more then one intro changing when certain things happen
For example in part 4 The upbeat “crazy, noisy, bizarre town” changes into the much more dramatic “chase” when the story shifts into hunting down a serial killer
Furthermore, in the final episode the main villains will interrupt the intro to display their Power, the most memorable example is this is in part 3 where the main character is shown punching a glass wall in both intros, but then in the finale the main villain shatters the glass from the other side and slowly walks past him just to show off how strong he is
Having diavolo interrupt in one episode in order to monologue just for giorno to interrupt his monologue in the next episode with an extended intro, is one of the moments in Jojo that makes it so memorable to me

Another addition is that normally near the end of the season, the last time an introduction is played it will have sound effects added to the intros, which in practice is really cool
Rebels also did this for the episode where the Ghost crew along with Rex and his old clones team up with a bunch of old battle droids and it had a Clone Wars style title card.
I somehow missed till just now that it’s all of the font variations from all of the games apart from I think new vegas but 1,2,3 stand out the most to me
And most are immediately relevant to the events of the cold open.
My absolute favorite is when Maximus is alone and trapped in his power armor and it cuts to the title card quickly decomposing (#5 in the above image).
Long Story Short is the same way, and a lot of Bojack people worked on it. The intro has a different collage every episode, and they all contain Easter eggs for that episode and future episodes. Such a great show
100% recommended. I watch it when it was airing and still remember the dread waiting each week.
Though if you plan on watching it I recommend not investigating anything more about it. I already gave in my original comment what could be considered a spoiler, as this is one of those series going in blind is the best experience.
I always loved the Digimon openings where they had the later digivolutions hidden as silhouettes before revealing them when they finally got to that point
I read this on YouTube and it gave me the idea for a Sitcom
Imagine a serie where the Intro is like Friends where all Characters are sit on a coach and the photo of all the characters on the sofa appears in the credits on a wooden board with decorations representing elements characteristic of the characters
A strange red door appears in the background of the series seemingly insignificant and even decorative or strange (since the door clashes with the setting) until, in the season finale, when one of the characters decides to step through it out of curiosity; the episode ends with the door closing behind him
In the following season, the character who crossed the threshold vanishes completely: he is erased from every photograph, the other characters never mention them, and (during the opening sequence) the camera freezes on the empty space where they should have appeared, even though the theme music plays as usual. Furthermore, in the shot of the sofa (seen at the end of the intro and during the credits), there is an empty gap where that character should be sitting and those elements characteristic of the character are no longer on the blackboard. even though the rest of the cast has the feeling that something is missing but cannot recall what it is, as if that memory had been snatched away from them
This happens to the characters one by one in later seasons, and (near the end) the remaining characters try to investigate, sensing something strange about that door, but in the end, they all face their fate
The last season they show us the remaining character trying to live his normal life but knowing that something is wrong. In the final chapter, the remaining character decides to enter the room behind the door, though he chooses to prop it open with something; upon entering, he finds the room so dark that even the flashlight he brought fails to illuminate his feet. As he ventures further inside, he hears a strange noise behind him, and the door slams shut on its own before he can react. The final ten minutes show only a black screen, and during the credits, we see the chalkboard stripped of all decorations alongside a photo of the sofa, now completely empty
The series ultimately concludes with a special featuring no one at all. The opening sequence plays out strangely: the music plays and the camera pans across the characters, but there is no one there—even the sofa is empty. The rest of the episode follows the same pattern, showing all the show's sets completely empty while background music and canned laughter play at random intervals, just as they would in a normal episode. Finally, the episode ends with the closing credits, though the chalkboard is now blank (lacking even the photo of the empty sofa)
Needs plotlines set up in early seasons that can't resolve because a critical part is missing, and parts of sets that go empty because the Friend living there has vanished.
I love the idea. Personally I would add hints in the first season that the vanishing has already happened. Little inconsistencies that appear like mistakes or plot holes but ultimately show that it is already happening upon rewatching.
For Better Call Saul, there's minor distortions that get worse and worse which are supposed to represent Jimmy becoming more and more corrupt. It was super cool to notice.
And I don't even think the tapes becoming worse are a representation of his corruption, its representative of him as Gene replaying the tapes of his past over and over again, reliving his past and his glory days while he's in hiding, hence the tape burns out in the last season after Fun and Games
The entire intro changes every 3rd season. The only thing that stays consistent is the title card but the the words become more rotted as the series goes on just like the walkers and the writing.
Starlight Glimmer's Expression in the Photo of seasons 6 and 7 changes from a less confident and worried smile in season 6, to a more confident one in season 7 signifying her redemption arc. Also Season 8 gets a completely new intro to reflect how many friends are made as well as the shift to the School of Friendship
One of my favourites of all time. The first episode shows Yuki's view of the world outside of her silhouette but after the first episode, it shows how things actually are while Yuki's pov is contained inside of her silhouette. I really like that detail
The X Files; the comment at the end of the intro changes in certain episodes.
It usually says “The Truth is Out There”
But in the season 1 finale it changes to “Trust No One” and an episode early-mid season 2 has it change to “Deny Everything”.
As the series progresses the intro slightly changes, such as the musical parts like piano disappearing. If I remember correct, the final one has degraded to barely more than eeire sounds to reflect the psychological state of the characters and the story.
I love the Bojack Horseman intro, as the show goes on and his mental state deteriorates the intros slowly become incomprehensible until Season 6 where a chunk of the intro is a bunch of rotating fractals
Ben 10 reboot had a thing where ben was limited to 10 aliens and whenever he gets a new one, it removes one of the old ones. Also the omnitrix design changes every season
This effected the intro where it would play the same but some new aliens replace the old ones, ben's omnitrix is changed and the title card at the end is also changed
The older ben 10 shows also had something similar but it would be minor change that would only happen 1 time. Ben 10 classic's intro replaces ghostfreak with cannonbolt. Ben 10 alien force only shows alien X's shadow before he appears. Ben 10 ultimate alien never changes. Ben 10 Omniverse changes feedback after ben gets him back and they also do a halloween themed intro for season 5
Came to say exactly this. I didn't watch the last season because it was just too bleak, but I loved how the second to last season especially basically had the sun going down and the city getting more and more wrecked.
Not exactly a direct progression, but in Only Murders in the Building, the opening animation will have something different in it every episode. Sometimes, they’re very subtle, so it’s super fun to be looking out for what changed every time.
There’s a two-part episode in the final season of Star Trek: Enterprise that takes place entirely in the evil Mirror Universe, and follows the story of the mirror counterparts to our usual heroes. The opening is changed to an evil version of the usual opening. Where the usual opening has clips of the origins and progress of space travel, the mirror version shows warfare.
Intros comprised of clips (Clip-Show Intros) sometimes do this. An example would be Jimmy Neutron where the 3rd season uses clips from the previous seasons.
Weeds. not every season. but theres a season of different versions of the title song, and then updates to the town/progression of the story (like the town vacant and on fire).
The Expanse does this trope absolutely masterfully. The opening is a montage of shots that take place throughout the Solar System, and every event that could be visible at that scale is accounted for.
In Season 3, the United Nations Navy destroys the Martian moon of Deimos with a missile strike, and in the next episode, the shot over Mars shows a debris field orbiting the planet in place of that moon. After some escalation, Mars launches its own nukes at Earth, and a single one slips through the defence network and obliterates Brazil. A clip of the explosion is added to the opening.
In Season 5, it gets even better. the terrorist Marco Inaros launches stealth-coated asteroids at Earth, and you can faintly see them whizzing by major solar system landmarks such as Mars. It’s even always it a different shot at a location closer to Earth in the episodes leading up to the impact. One episode ends with the asteroids striking the Earth, and the next opening contains a shot of the explosion (replacing the Season 3 shot of the Martian nuke). After that, Marco takes his fleet and flees to the outer solar system, and the opening shows his flagship passing planets progressively further from the Sun
Babylon 5, one of the earliest series with a multi season plot had the intro description of the station and what that year entails, change every season. It also changes who narrates it

The Game of Thrones intro showed a clockwork map of westeros that was always current. It didn’t show precise character locations but if a city changed allegiances or something that was reflected in the intro of the next episode.
They also focused on locations that would be important in the upcoming episode and as the series went on, and new locations were introduced, the intro included all of them as well
Not sure if it fits 100%, but is definitely a related trope. Nana (2006-2007) changed its opening three times over the course of the 42-episode story. In the second arc (pictured in the middle row here), the characters depicted feel more bleak and isolated, and as they reunite the intro becomes more similar in its final arc to how it was in the first arc. The theme songs (which in-universe are written by the characters, because they are in multiple bands) change according to which band is introduced into the story. In the first arc, a song by the Black Stones is played, then when Trapnest is introduced, their song is used, and is then changed back to a different song by the Black Stones when their band becomes more central to the story again.
the show gotham does this! as the show goes on we zoom closer and closer to the city. theres also some special cards (frosted title for mr freeze, scorched title for firefly, stuff like that)

I raise you this really cool book series about the fall of rome
