Abandoned Catholic Sanatorium
Unsettled by the dismembered baby doll hanging from the ceiling in photo #5, I knew I had to document this place further.
Originally a sanatorium turned into a safe-haven for the sick, this catholic nun-ran hospital was constructed around 1927. In 1931, a local nunnery purchased the 46-bed facility for $135,000 and converted it into the hospital it is known as today. By the 1960s, however, the aging hospital was becoming increasingly expensive to maintain, while its equipment and facilities needed modernization. More importantly, the Sisters were experiencing a shortage of personnel and concluded that they could no longer adequately operate the hospital.
The hospital ultimately closed in 1968,
with the closure helping prompt the construction of more mainstream hospitalization companies' facilities.
After its closure as a hospital, the building did not immediately become abandoned. Beginning in the 1970s and continuing into the 1990s and early 2000s, it was used by local community service organizations and housed programs and offices. Today, this former hospital remains an abandoned, privately owned historic building by the city.

Decay
galleryDecay
Black mold.
Broken glass.
Bleached bones of wood.
Paint curls from the walls
in thin, dead strips.
Rust eats through steel.
Rain rots the roof.
Water stains spread like bruises.
The floor sags.
The stairs split.
The walls sweat.
Weeds crawl through the windows.
Vines choke the brick.
Moss blankets what’s left.
Everything smells damp.
Everything feels dead.
A place that once had people
now has pigeons, spiders,
and the sound of wind
moving through empty rooms.
Crack.
Crumble.
Collapse.
Piece by piece
the building gives up.
And nobody comes
to stop it.

Chateau Miranda (Noisy)
Ich habe das Schloss 2014 besuchen dürfen - noch vor den Bränden und letztlich dem Abriss. Wunderschöne Schloss gewesen, sehr schade.
