mom found a vape

Upvotes

went with my family to a state park, mom found a disposable on the hiking trail, a bright pink rectangle with the little window to see the resin. she asked me what it was, she thought it was nicotine and planned to throw it away. i told her - it was a disposable thc vape and it looked full, but that she should throw it away, it's litter anyways.

i didn't see her throw it out, it was a park where you have to take your trash with you. the whole rest of the night i kept revisiting the thought of trying to dig through her coat pockets or the trash to find it. i thought about what would happen if i could use it. there was one time in my life where my ideal day would've been getting high and camping. there was a time where my day would've been ruined by losing my vape on the trail - i imagine that the person who lost it wasn't pleased.

instead i had a happy night playing badminton with my dad and swimming in the lake with my friend. ate s'mores and had a seltzer water and played chess on my phone and went to bed early.

if i did manage to use it i probably would've taken blinkers until my heart was pounding and i couldn't stand up, and i would probably stay curled up in my room paranoid and doomscrolling instagram reels and texting people i shouldn't.

another day sober! over one year now.

I have been sober over 3 years now. Here are some things that helped me

Upvotes

I had been a chronic smoker for about five years from when I was 21-26. Was smoking constantly all day. I used it for coping, sleeping and basically before any social interactions. Couldn’t leave the house without my pen and couldn’t sleep without smoking. I would be the first person to go to the dispensary at 7 in the morning because I could not imagine spending a day without a hit. With all that being said, these are what that helped me to quit.

  1. First three months are make or break - if you can navigate it through, you are like 80% done. Keep that landmark in your mind and whenever the urge comes just tell yourself I want to make it to atleast 3 months.

  2. Find a strong reason for yourself to quit - could be anything, personal health, money etc. I personally hold on to more spirituality and religious beliefs and also just wanted better sleep lol. But whatever it is, you need that reason to keep going.

  3. You CANNOT be around people who smokes - it just never worked. Set boundaries, let them know why you can’t hangout if they are smoking later. I am not asking you to be a hermit, but know a true homie will always respect your wishes.

  4. So this might vary for different people but I personally would hold my breath for 10-15 seconds and release it slowly few times whenever I get the urge. It kinda gave me head rush and it helped me a bit, especially for sleeping.

  5. Personally for me, smoking in moderation never worked. Because I would eventually go back to the extreme routine at point or another.

Lastly, I am not going to say your life will be magically better if you quit, but it will return to normal. The best feeling is when you realize you don’t have to ever worry constantly about restocking and can just go about your day. And at this point I don’t even remember the feeling when I was on it. I want to you to know it is definitely possible to completely quit it for good.

This subreddit did help me in ways during my journey and I know the difficulties of quitting. Everyone here is really brave and absolutely doing the right thing to quit this addiction and I wish each of you the very best.

My local dispensary just called me about a “wishlist” item I put my name on the list for over a year ago.

Upvotes

For a brief second I had one of those moments where I was like “the universe is giving me a gift!!” But I just told them I was no longer interested and hung up. Instead of spending the whole day on the couch today smoking, I went on a hike. I may have said “I would rather be smoking while doing this hike” between huffs of air a dozen times, but I also know if I was still smoking I’d have never made it outside today. And my asthma would be uncontrolled. My life still doesn’t feel more enjoyable not smoking yet but I can zoom out and see that I am clearly enjoying it more. I think. I don’t know. Probably.

Hit my 1 year sober date last week!

Upvotes

I don’t know how I feel honestly. I went from smoking literally daily 5-10 blunts+ a day for the last 10 years… to COLD TURKEY NOTHING. I am really proud of myself and I don’t see myself returning. I am happy to report that it does get better and you can do whatever you put your mind to! I love this subreddit and I hope everyone is having a good journey.

I don’t see this talked about enough (on a positive note!)

Upvotes

One thing I don’t see people talking about enough is the freedom you gain after quitting weed. You know that feeling when you’re out and about or even doing a task and you think to yourself, “ugh I can’t wait to smoke.” After a few days of not smoking, I realize I’m not dealing with that nagging feeling anymore. I’ve been forced to be PRESENT.

I was a nighttime only smoker. It was my end of the day “reward”. Evenings would be spent finishing all the necessary tasks and counting down the time until I could sit back and have my smoke. After quitting, eventually you get to a new state of what’s normal. I’m no longer rushing through tasks or surrounding my entire day and mood around smoking. It almost feels like freedom in a way.

Genuinely what are the odds that I’ve fucked myself?

Upvotes

I used THC in all forms pretty heavily from 18-23. Pretty much every day. Not “perma fried”, I got through the day without it but would consume up to 50mg per night for years. There also was a period of a few weeks where I ate edibles literally all day and got extremely depressed. Now that I am off and seeing the light, I shudder at the thought of how much life I wasted. Memories I’ll never get back. Since I was pretty young when I started, I’m worried about how much cognition and permanent mood impacts I caused. Does it ever go back to normal or did I literally smoke my brain away?

Four weeks off

Upvotes

Longtime lurker. M26 smoking since 14. tried to stop since 2024 - never worked. I had moderate consumption and would smoke every evening. But since it was affecting my job and private life negatively, i wanted to stop for good. People (me included) tend to blame stuff that are suboptimal (like sleeping routine, clarity, sharpness in conversation) on the weed. With the weed gone you have no scape goat anymore and thus could start to work on yourself. Atleast for me. Working on myself sucks balls.

for me its only a mental win so far. I dont experience ANY physical improvements whatsoever. Sleeping same, thinking the same etc. I liked to smoke, because it made being bored and mediocre feel okay. But i am not. So i gotta be consistent. But damn it sucks. Does it even get better or did some of you not experience any changes after quitting too?

Not native english.
Thanks

day 47 - pissed off and want to smoke

Upvotes

maybe i'm just PMS'ing really bad but these last couple days have just been miserable.

i've gained back all of the weight i've lost over the month and a half from stress eating. i was REALLY proud of that loss. i feel like i'm just at square one again and i feel terrible.

i'm back to isolating from my friends because the depression is hitting me like a god damn truck. i'm feeling so much anger towards people that i'm supposed to love and it scares me and only exacerbates my isolation cycle because i acknowledge the emotions are irrational and don't want to explode on them for no reason... which only makes me feel worse.

long walks used to be like instant therapy and now i get absolutely nothing out of them. my dopamine boost lasts as long as the walk does and once i'm back home, i feel like fucking shit again. even watching TV feels like a god damn chore recently. i feel absolutely no pleasure in anything.

i'm basically right back in the mental state i was in before deciding to quit. feels like nothing i'm doing is making a meaningful change in my life and i'm so deeply frustrated.

all i want right now is to fucking smoke. the cravings have actually been nonexistent but they are in FULL swing today. i feel so deeply fucking broken that it's really gotten to the point of, "does it even matter if i'm sober or not anymore? i'm a wreck either way".

sorry for the "woe is me" bullshit but i needed to get my train of thought out somewhere before it absolutely consumes me. i don't REALLY want to smoke. i just want to feel better. i know a joint won't fix that but maaan does it sound tempting right now...

started smoking everyday at 16/17 now I am 38 and 3 months off

Upvotes

Help please or give me some reassurance. I quit weed after a lifetime of smoking, it got bad when the Benjamin (pen) came into my life, I'd go through a gram cart every 3 days (max). I'm now 3 months off and got through the first 6 weeks with various sleep meds but decided I didn't want to replace one evil with another. My sleep is just fucked, I get a crazy amount of rem and very little deep sleep. I wake up every 50 minutes or so then go back to sleep, I feel pretty tired in the days but not yawning excessively, I have crazy bags under my eyes (more so left eye). Does this ever get better or should | just go back to smoking, my anxiety is crazy and all doctors want to do is give me meds, what should I do ?

3 days in...

Upvotes

Anyone who is thinking about quitting there is a reason you are thinking that. It's because you know in your heart it's holding you back or slowing you down from becoming your best self. Start showing up for your life as yourself and not the zoned out half-assed version of your true self. Do it, not to be perfect, but to finally be you again.

Day 14 and I want to die

Upvotes

Weed was my only escape, and now I have nothing. Every day feels like a chore and I lm tired, I can’t sleep and nothing entertains me. I feel like even if I achieve all of my dreams it still won’t make me happy. I’ve been getting 3 hours of sleep every night, I wake up feeling like shit. My psychiatrist gives me meds but they don’t work, at least not yet. Every night is torture, I just want to sleep to get away but I can’t. I hate living.

A week

Upvotes

I’ve officially made it a week! Honestly the first week wasn’t too bad but as of today I’m just depressed afffffff. Literally all I want to do is lay down and stare at a wall. Not to mention some triggering shit happened yesterday too, which always sends me for a couple day spiral. I’m just sad. Nothing is holding my interest. AHHHHHHHHHH

After dropping heavy concentrates all day every day and moving to 3-4 bowls a day total over the course of a month, I’ve gone cold turkey.
I feel otherwise good, but even during that taper, my appetite got destroyed.

And it still is.
I just want to eat normally again
I care about my fitness a lot I’m a 21 year old and pretty jacked but I feel like it’s all going away cuz I haven’t eaten normally in soooo long.
Now that I’m cold turkey I hope to be eating normally sooner.
Pls lmk if anyone has experienced anything similar with their appetite.
I do feel good otherwise especially mentally I’m proud I finally pulled the trigger things were getting out of hand.

Made it 3 months!

Upvotes

What a journey so far - I quit smoking on 6/6/26 and have made it 3 months!

I started smoking in high school and then it just continued and really picked up after I moved out of my folks house for college. From there, it was just flower all the time.. everyday after class, etc. So like age 18-35.

Then weed became legalized in my state for medicinal and eventually recreational and I alternated between carts and flower. Carts for me were a huge problem as I had it on me all the time.. there were even times where I’d get unsettled and upset if I couldn’t find my pen. Not a fan of those days.

I do miss the days of weed not being very high % wise as I feel, personally, those times were great with the laughter and munchies… and not the anxiety riddled high I feel it gives now.

I am glad to be on this journey and don’t plan on picking it up again. I have been able to be around weee and be offered it and I turn it down. It smells great, but I don’t want that for myself anymore.

Just wanted to share my experience with others in the hope that I might inspire those that want to quit to actually do so.

Ask away if you have any questions!

Day 1 — 46, isolated, and ready to get my brain back

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I’m 46 and posting this because I need to put it in writing for myself. Today is Day 1.

I've been a long time smoker, since a young age and I'm ready to close the door on weed and leave it in the past. Last year I managed to stay clear of THC for about 10 months, I had just gone through a breakup and used that as motivation to quit. Last September I started slowly bringing it back on weekends. Over the last several months, it turned right back into an everyday nightly habit.

Every night I use it to turn my brain off so I don't have to think about feeling lonely or stuck, but the reality is it just makes me isolate more, eat junk food, and wake up every morning feeling muted, groggy, and flat. I feel completely disconnected from myself, and I’m tired of spending night after night watching TV alone on the couch feeling like a fraud.

I got rid of everything in my house today. I know I can't think about "quitting forever" right now because that's too overwhelming, so I'm strictly taking this one day at a time. The evenings are the hardest and I've had trouble making it one night without. My plan for tonight is to keep moving during my usual evening window, log my day, and start building a streak.

Just wanted to introduce myself and put this out there into the world so I'm not doing it completely in the dark. Thanks for reading, and tips would be great! Strength to everyone else going through Day 1 today.

Considering a ten day detox retreat

Upvotes

So in India, we have something called Vipassana where people stay together for up to two weeks in total silence. No talking, 8hrs of meditation every day, no cellphones, no books and even the food is vegetarian, low on salt, oil and spices. It's a bit spiritual, which is not my scene at all.

But I like the idea of rewiring my brain. I'm on Day 16 today, and I just can't get myself off my phone and cigarettes. A few friends (non addicts) went through it and said it was the toughest two weeks of their lives. You are forced to be with your thoughts with no outlets or distractions. But they were glad they did it. I wonder if this is too extreme for someone who's used to dope, and absolutely no form of self control.

Would you do it? Esp if you are in the same timeline of sobriety as me?

2 weeks

Upvotes

Been here before. Happy I’m back. Tomorrow will be two weeks, sober. I would have had another 11 days, if I didn’t reload. I’m a chronic relapsed one could say. But this year my progress has been immense. I started going to therapy again. I started going to MA meetings. My longest streak was 45 days. I’m beyond grateful. And I’ve learned a lot Grateful for this sub. I check here often for inspiration. I may just be lurking but your shares help so much.

So, what’s helped. For starters, going to an MA meeting weekly. It helps especially that I see familiar faces. I feel held responsible. Reaching out to other fellows on a daily basis helps a lot too. The gym has also become a great outlet for me again. When I was so hooked on pot, I had no motivation to go the gym. I was way too comfortable with the body I had. And now I realise, it’s more than physique. It’s my new “high”. Another thing that has helped is getting back into TV shows. When I was so high all the time I couldn’t even remember the names plots of the shows I was watching. Same goes for video games. I like to play some valorant and it gives me the dopamine I need. Just one match everyday day or other day. I’ve also got more into golf and I’m trying to get into pickleball.

What never helps is hanging around other addicts. Or other people who will use in front of me. I just simply can’t control myself and it’s so triggering. So, I’ve had to surround myself with selective company. What doesn’t help is ruminating in guilt in shame. Relapse happens and we are human. What doesn’t help is isolation either, surround yourself with sober company, there’s so many sober people and actives out there. Just yesterday I went to a barbecue. What doesn’t help is keeping your feelings to yourself. Call or text a fellow a friend a mentor. Anybody. Tell them how much you’re struggling and to just listen.

Alright that’s all I have for now. Good luck and may this all be easier for us all.

Day 0. Looking for advice.

Upvotes

23M. I really want to get clean. Ive tried before, I’ve gone months without it no problem in the past, but in the last 8 months I’ve been using it daily and now I’m starting to see how detrimental that choice was.

Last year I was on vacation for 1 month. No weed. Was not a problem for me. I was on the beach. Eating good food. Working out. Socializing. And I had maybe 1 or 2 days of withdrawal max. When I got back to my home city, The cravings began again almost out of routine or habit. If I’m laying in bed, I wanna hit the pen. When I get off work, I wanna hit the pen. It doesn’t even get me high anymore, it just makes me anxious, sluggish, and makes me beat myself up, yet I keep coming back to it and am scared to go a day without it. I understand addiction now.

I hate how I lie to myself, “I can quit weed rn no problem” then 5 minutes later I think “ah I’m so bored, and what if I can’t sleep tonight, 1 more cartridge won’t hurt”. It’s like I can’t even trust myself anymore. It’s taken over my life.

No one knows about my addiction other than my best friends, and I haven’t even told them the severity of it. Can never tell my parents. They would be incredibly hurt and disappointed in me.

It’s 7:00pm and today is my first day completely off weed in a long time and it already kinda sucks.

Please answer my questions below and add any other info you think is relevant or helpful

**QUESTIONS**

**1. How long did your withdrawal symptoms last?**
**2. How long until you noticed significant improvement in symptoms?**
**3. How did you deal with the state of psyche I am in?**
**4. How did you kick the cravings? And the Insomnia? (The 2 things that can actually derail me personally)**

This was a very hard post to make. I’m trying to be better.
Thank you guys.

Day one no THC and no one to share it with

Upvotes

Posted in here last night, idk what happened but I was chain smoking (like I do in the night to keep anxiety and panic at bay) and I just got the ick for smoking weed like this had been my life every day for 6 years. Getting high. At first it was peer pressure from my abusive partner (now ex) then it helped me feel numb on the days I didn’t want to be alive, which was most days. Now my life is changing for the better and understandably the people in it don’t want to be around a mongified stoner. The thing is they all just think it’s depression they don’t know how much I smoke because I’ve kept it a secret from everyone. So here I am on day one celebrating my little win.
I’m very nervous for tonight when the scaries kick in and could do with some advice or kind words :) thankyou
