Need help with proper phrasing (native Cz preferred)

Upvotes

I am wanting to get a dog leash wrap that states my dog is friendly, I want it to say “People friendly” in Czech. Ideally I want it to say people friendly, loud to other dogs, but I need a short text for quick communication.

If someone who has a native understanding of Czech could let me know short phrases for
“Friendly to people”
and
“Not aggressive to dogs just excited”
I would be much appreciative.
It doesn’t need to be a one to one translation, I just have a dog breed that people in my home country are afraid of, so I want to make sure people aren’t scared.
Thank you all.

Tschechisch lernen

Upvotes

Anyone done the ÚJOP Czech program at Charles University and then transitioned to a BSc in Math? (International Student)

Upvotes

Hey everyone,I'm an international student looking into moving to Czechia for my studies. My plan is to first take the year-long intensive ÚJOP language and preparatory program to learn Czech, and then apply for a BSc in Mathematics at Charles University (since studying the degree in the Czech language makes it tuition-free!).

I’m trying to see if anyone here has successfully taken this exact route (or a similar STEM track) and can share their experience?

I have a few specific questions:The Czech Language: How difficult is it to go from absolute zero to the required B2/C1 level in just one year, especially for a technical subject like math?

Did UJOP prepare you well for the specific math terminology?

The Faculty Entrance Exams: How difficult was the entrance exam for the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics (Matfyz)?

Visa Transition: How smooth was the process of extending the student visa from the language preparatory year to the actual university degree?

Thankyou in advance for responding!!!

Czech UA Trainer - Android testers wanted for 14+ days. I’ll test yours too!

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I made Czech UA Trainer, a small app for practising Czech vocabulary using your own word lists. I’m looking for Android testers and would be happy to test your app in return.

Test for test - 14+ days

Please keep it installed and stay opted in for 14+ days, and try it occasionally. I’ll do the same for yours.

What to try

Could you try importing a word list and starting a practice session? Let me know whether both work on your phone. If something goes wrong, please include your phone model and what happened.

How to join

  1. Join this community’s Google Group if you haven’t already.
  2. Opt in to the test.
  3. Install from Google Play.

Use the same Google account for all steps.

Need help getting started?

The interface is in Ukrainian. There’s a short English guide, a video and a sample word list here.

After trying it, leave a screenshot, a brief note about how it worked and your testing links in the comments. I’ll reply once I’ve tested yours.

Thanks!

Czech-French language exchange

Upvotes

Ahoj / bonjour!

I'm a native Czech speaker learning French. My main objective at the moment is to immerse myself in the language and practise conversation to reach B2. I hope to connect with someone who may have similar goals with Czech and who would be interested in doing regular language exchange calls, ideally via Discord.

More about me... 34-year-old woman, interested in politics, languages, history, pop culture, crafts, travelling and expat life.

If you'd be up for this, please dm me and text me something about yourself.

Preji vam krasny vikend!

I wanna learn Czech but I lowkey feel like Duolingo is gaslighting me.

Upvotes

EDIT: THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR INPUT! I HAVE TURNED OFF COMMENT NOTIFICATIONS PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT!

I wanna learn Czech, but I lowkey feel like duolingo is gaslighting me.

It's... Inconsistent at best, for context I'm Iraqi, I speak Turkmen and Arabic natively, English fluently and Turkish mixed with Turkmen words, that makes it 3.5 languages. (I think)

I wanna learn Czech because I have a friend from there, I've known them for 6 years and we talk on and off.

They're pretty cool and I find the Czech language interesting.

I'm confident I can pronounce Czech well because I already speak the phonetic nightmare that is arabic, I'm wondering what good sources there are to learn Czech? I'm really doubtful of duolingo.

Also, should I learn formal Czech first? I'm guessing Czech also has a street version like any other language.

how do i learn czech???

Upvotes

im half czech, my grandparents fled to canada during the soviet occupation in the 60s. ive been trying on and off since i was 13 to learn the language (im 17 now). my dedo died in 2019, and my Babi (my GOAT, i could speak about her life amd how much shes survived FOREVER) has suffered greatly and now has dementia, id love to ask her but shes at deaths doorstep and i dont want her to have to stress too much mentally. my mum was raised speaking Ceština, but she only speaks and understands it, if you asked her to write in czech she wouldnt be able to without google translate. i also want to surprise her and my tetas with it cuz none of their kids speak it. so any help??? i know this has mostly been just like my backstory but just any help from fluent speakers or people who also learned later in life???

Grammar Difference between tehle, tahle, tohle and tento, tato, toto?

Upvotes

My textbook says that the correct forms are "Tenhle počitač", "Tahle kniha" and "Tohle auto", while webpages for learning Czech have "Tento, tato and toto" written as correct usages of pronouns. So, which one is correct?

Any recommendations for Czech Language Courses?

Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I finished my master's and I learnt Czech basics in one of my subjects. I would like to continue my learning via some offline/online live course, as I learn better like that.

Do you have any recommendations for cheap/free of charge course in Prague?

Thank you in advance.

Happy learning...

Why shouldn't have happened something to the dogs in the bathroom?

I know Duolingo is not the best, but the only free learning option. Since I'm living in Germany near the border to Czechia I'm often there and talking Czech which helps more than Duolingo.
