Discussion Ben Simmons to Sac?
What else could it be?!

Imagine how smug he'd be if Ben Simmons came here and called out. He'd never shut up about it.
•
u/Plus-Masterpiece7776 4d ago
Vivek selling.
•
u/SingleCollaborator8 4d ago
This is gonna be something dumb like a new food vendor in the arena, watch
•
•
u/ChaoticSenior DeMarcus Cousins 4d ago
I think he could make a lot of money if he did. But it would probably some horrific private equity douchebag who would be even worse.
•
u/russbestbrook Dylan Cardwell 4d ago
And immediately move the team. Stern aināt around to keep it in Sac.
•
•
u/BeTheBall- 4d ago
This is just silly.
•
u/ish_vh Malik Monk 4d ago
Downvoted for truth apparently. The city funded the arena with an agreement that carries over even if sold.
•
u/BeTheBall- 4d ago
People thinking there are better available markets than Sacramento are delusional with doom. Especially after recently footing the bill for a stadium. The NBA isn't going to poison the public money well, or elect to move a team to a smaller market.
•
u/Boitanobadboy Domantas Sabonis 4d ago
Haha we all wish
•
u/russbestbrook Dylan Cardwell 4d ago
Man everyone says Vivek should sell the team, but I donāt think you want to see the team get movedā¦which is exactly what would happen if it got sold.
David Stern is dead and heās the main reason the team is still in Sac. Without Commissioner power any billionaire could move the team if they wanted.
•
•
u/ChannelMuted8102 4d ago
Iām so sick of this everytime someone hope Vivek sells. The team is not moving.
•
u/ShotgunStyles 4d ago
Why do you think a new owner wouldn't do that? You seeing what's happening in Portland too?
•
u/ghostjournals 4d ago
Portland doesnāt have a brand new downtown arena. Why would any new owner trade that and move out of California? Where could they go thatās a better market that doesnāt already have a team?
•
u/ShotgunStyles 4d ago
Our arena isn't brand new, it's already 10 years old. It's also very cheap to buy out the rest of the lease if a new ownership wants since the arena was built during cheaper times. I think it'd only cost like $150 million.
As for where they'd go, well the world's your oyster. Plenty of bigger cities and areas with no team.
•
u/real_but_incognito Ghost of Boogie 4d ago
Which ones?
•
u/ShotgunStyles 4d ago
I'll just do those in the PST time zone for you right now. Vancouver, San Diego. For your homework, can you name me 2 big cities that don't have an NBA team?
•
u/ghostjournals 4d ago
Feels like youāre splitting hairs. Itās one of the 5 newest arenas. Plus itās got a die-hard, dedicated built-in fanbase that shows up even when times are tough. Itās not hard to find empty arenas in cities where people donāt care enough about basketball. Why would you uproot a franchise to a new city to build a slightly newer arena? The Blazers owner is just trying to strong arm his way into a better arena deal. Thatās not a problem we have here.
•
u/ShotgunStyles 4d ago
I feel like you're living in a fantasy land. Who is this hypothetical billionaire who will spend ~$4 billion to buy the team and not extract maximum value from his investment, namely by moving to a bigger market? It's funny to me how so many Kings fans are pessimistic about everything but when it comes to selling the team, there's a lot more optimism from fans.
•
u/ghostjournals 3d ago
You said to reference the Blazers owner as an example of a new owner coming in and trying to move the team. The Blazers owner is just trying to get a better deal for renovations or a new arena. Thatās not the situation in Sac. A $4 billion investment would include the arena and any other property in the sale. Why would they ditch a newer arena to spend billions more on a new one in a new city on top of their investment to buy the team? It just doesnāt track. Itās not optimism itās just pragmatism.

Simmons will be signed and off the team and on a playoff team by the end of the trade deadline.

The Dennis Schroder special
•
u/Kavazou77 Ghost of Boogie 4d ago
Dennis tried. Canāt imagine this dude has any motivation to find a career with the kings. Makes no sense for anyone.
•
u/Mustafa_was_Brown45 Russell Westbrook 4d ago
I mean he was a pro fisher (I believe a good one too) last season. So he surely has some motivation to be in the NBA. No one goes to the Kings unless their: (a) overpaid; (b) from Sacramento; (c) drafted by the kings; or (d) old and useless trying to collect a paycheck.
Heās gonna get a veteran minimum if he gets more than thatās silly. Itās probably not all guaranteed. There is 0 harm to signing him. Odds are heās ass but we know what the kings history is and we know his history so that would be unsurprising. He is still a former number 1 overall pick who can pass and play defense and is athletic. Worst case, heās ass and gone before next season. Best case, heās a rotational player that revitalizes his career and itās a cool story.
Itās not rly a win win, but itās not a lose lose.
•
u/DistanceEmbarrassed5 3d ago
The Kings have a habbit for signing old washed players dont they. Why not take a flyer on Cam Whitmore who is 21 years old.
•
u/Mustafa_was_Brown45 Russell Westbrook 3d ago
Whitmore kinda strikes me as one of those, āif he had it then someone would have him.ā He didnāt work on the Wizards, was waived by the Cavs, and now the Lakers are considering giving him a 2-way deal. Thereās no guarantee heād even want to come here, even if he had no other options.
Ben Simmons may get minutes and if he can pass and play defense, he could help us potentially avoid the relegation zone in the lottery.
•
u/DistanceEmbarrassed5 3d ago
Just saying why not take a flyer on a young player. Maybe they will get Jalen Duren.
•
•
u/One_Fix_6332 4d ago
Pablo found out Vivek is in cahoots with the Cartels and is forced to sell?

Please let it be about Jalen Duren and not Ben Simmons

u/NT-86 4d ago
If Simmons signs with the Kings, Kuminga is definitely a King in 2032.
•
u/Bench_Precious DeMar DeRozan 4d ago
But thankfully Kuminga will already be in year 3 of a 5 year 430m dollar contract so we only have to wait another year or two before dumping picks to get off his contractĀ

u/MuggD 4d ago
I mean, I'm for it, fuck it. He won't take shots from Acuff or Keegan so that's good. And he should still be a good passer right? And has size to grab some boards while Acuff and Keegan (hopefully) are chucking. And when healthy he plays really good defense. A vet minimum on the presumed worst team or whatever, why not. If he plays well we can flip him for something.

•
u/sportsfanexpert 4d ago
Hopefully it means Kayte C is getting fired
•
u/Little_little_e 4d ago
Thatās a great news too. Would be loved to hear that. And hire back Kyle.
•
u/BeTheBall- 4d ago
Of all the players they worked out, he's the best one. That's not exactly a ringing endorsement, but it is what it is at this point.
•
u/Little_little_e 4d ago
Thatās the point.
•
u/BeTheBall- 4d ago
Yep, the only people that want to come here willingly are those whose careers are toast, or whose careers weren't much to begin with.

Might be Ben Simmons cuz doesnāt Carmichael Dave talk to Scott Perry a lot on the side? I always see them eating together at Mikuniāsā¦.
•
•
u/djeasyg 3d ago
Hmm maybe Dave will actually talk about sports next week. Still can't believe I tuned in the day after the Clippers news only to learn about Dave's father recycling paper plates followed by 50 ads, A brief overview of the Clippers that anyone who listens to sports radio would have heard a million time followed by 50 ads, but now we surely will hear more about the clippers. Nope a discussion about Alf and 80's sitcoms followed by one ad because that is when I ended it.

Got Zach 7 years after the fact, got Ben 6 years after the fact, got Rondo after his prime, got Westbrook his last season, traded an unprotected first in 31 for Demar who is well past his prime and now on the Nuggets for a league min.
This front office is cheeks and will forever be cheeks until Vivek and Matina are gone.
•
u/looprecords 3d ago
it sucks that this is our local media guy. he's an untalented, washed up, complete shill. it would be cool if everything about our franchise wasn't a complete joke.
•
u/pirateslifefourme 4d ago
Damn it this just means Vivek is STILL making all the roster decisions. When he has a hard on for someone he does not let it go š¤¦š½āāļø. Buddy Heild, Zach Lavine, and now Simmons.
•
u/DistanceEmbarrassed5 3d ago
So that Hard on is for guys past their prime or guys teams didnt want.
Sacramento makes zero sense. They are a bad team, and should be rebuilding. they dont even have all that much youth on their roster for being a rebuilding team compared to other bottom feeder teams. Why not go take flyers on young talent, like the Pelicans signed Bennadict Mathurin (23) this offseason, and Milwaukee took a flyer on Ousmane Dieng (22) last trade deadline. It has paid off Milwaukee. Cam Whitmore got cut, go sign him.

u/YoureNotMom Peja Stojakovic 4d ago
In what universe is ben simmons joining a team a positive thing? Nobody tries less than this guy
•
u/ShotgunStyles 4d ago
In what universe are you guys putting so much stock into a vet minimum signing to meet the NBA's roster requirements?
•
u/Russ916 Kings 4d ago
Yeah it's crazy how much stock some of these people put into a vet min last spot as if it's the last straw that broke the camels back.
Realistically Simmons is not moving the needle anyways for this team and neither was Olidipo and whoever else they worked out, otherwise smarter franchises than ours would have signed them already.
•
•
u/No_Nefariousness6385 Kings 4d ago
Ohh Bem Simmons, the basketball enthusiast, he will be SOOO motivated to play here. Like he shined on the Nets and Clippers, he will came hungry, , willing to shine even brighter!!! Can't wait!!!
