This years young are now old enough to be officially added to the Kakapo population. There are now 325 Kakapo in existence. I remember being happy when the numbers reached 125 so this is real hope for their future.

Each card has a unique parrot on it and that parrot tells the story and is the meaning of that card. The Hierophant card is our beloved Kakapo. He is shown performing in his lek, calling out into the darkness, hoping that a mate responds.

I was going to share it once they left the nest so we could watch them grow older one poop at a time. But i feel like we all miss them so much with the Livestream being down. So I'm sharing it now.

The kākāpō is a flightless nocturnal parrot from New Zealand. Only 235 adults exist. This year a bumper rimu berry crop triggered their first breeding season in 4 years and over 100 chicks hatched smashing the previous record of 85.

All chicks now hatched so the only changes now will be chick deaths. Good luck little ones.

Before this breeding season, I know they were already stretching the capacity of the pest-free islands and had a few at Maungatautari but what's the plan for this year's little ones? I haven't been able to find much information in the news reports, etc. Are there going to be more being moved to the mainland? Are there other islands in contention?

There are 98 known surviving chicks from the current season ranging from 3 days to 49 days old.

Sadly, we've also lost an adult bird. Matamua who was four years old has died of an infection, bringing the adult population down to 235.

They won't all survive to adulthood but this is still an outstanding season. Good luck to all those little guys.
