Happened to me in third grade. A kid in our class wasn’t allowed to go to the bathroom and he peed himself and a giant puddle spread out from him in all directions. He cried, the teachers class was completely derailed, and he carried that stigma all the way through highschool. Let kids go to the bathroom, you can literally alter the course of their life if you don’t. He was unable to make true friends and became a shut-in after that. It was really sad, fuck those teachers honestly

If you my period starts unexpectedly, and I feel the blood coming through getting on my bottoms, I would deem that abusive. Some diarrhea comes on suddenly too. And some people have different medical exceptions and needs.

I'd rather just have the students leave their phones on the desk before leaving to go to the restroom, instead.

Yall know mfs with bad bladder often have UTIs and holding your urine too long can cause them even more, as well as kidney infections and you can also lose a kidney that way too, it's a number of things not only females go thru, but males as well, you can literally end up in the hospital for holding your bladder too long, if you already have a bad bladder or UTI especially

If you gotta go, you gotta go. Now, if you’re a repeat offender going to the bathroom after recess is over every single day, then that’s a problem you let the principal handle. Heck, they have apps nowadays where teachers can send messages to parents. I just had one sent to me last week about my stepdaughter constantly using the restroom after recess. I addressed it at home and she hasn’t done it since. But at the end of the day, you as a teacher cannot deny them the right to use the restroom. That’s not your call. Either the principal or parent needs to step in and handle that.

Not everyone has to use the bathroom between classes. Just before his particular class. And if you can't make it there are 3 emergency passes you can use. Or you can go in the class before his. Or you can hold it. No matter how you spin it it's a 1 hour period. If you can't figure out when to use the bathroom outside of the 50 min timeframe that you're in his class for the whole day then maybe time isn't the issue.

I have been most of the times I went to the bathroom it was between classes. Not to say I never went during classes but I've definitely had more than 1 teacher say they don't do passes to the bathroom. And you know what we did as middle/high school kids? We worked around that. Kass and made sure we didn't need to go.

I find it hard to believe any student is gonna have to go the bathroom at the same time everyday. Even harder to believe that they can't go in any of there other classes or between their classes and it just has to be in his class more than 3 times per semester. Ultimately if it's really an emergency they can just leave without his permission. But once again I find it hard to believe that needs to be a regular occurrence

I had ine high school teacher that would give you only 2 passes a semester and if you dont use your passes you can use them for extra credit. This shouldnt be an issue.

Last week my daughter was nauseous in class because she missed breakfast. She asked the teacher if she could leave to get some water to help settle her stomach. He allowed her to and even offered her a pass to go to a different building to grab something from the vending machine.
My niece also has that teacher and he won't allow her to leave because the one time he did, she left right after class started and came back right before the bell. She was in the bathroom making TikToks with her friends.

Let them kids go to the bathroom and if they're the ones that are abusing it they're probably the ones that are distracting in class and being unruly in there anyway, just let them go. I've told my kids every year at the beginning of the year when you have to go to the bathroom get up and walk out. The school can call me if they have a problem with it. It really seems like some teachers care more about having their fucking control than they do about the well-being of the students.

If I have to go to the bathroom and there’s one available I’m going to the bathroom and I tell my child the same 🤷🏽♂️. Kids that ain’t aren’t going to pay attention in class are not going to pay attention regardless. I think saying no one can goto the bathroom while in his class ain’t the answer. There’s plenty of times I’ve seen have accidents in these cases now mom or dad has to leave work etc to bring clothes or pick up their kids because they couldn’t hold it. Not to mention young females that have monthly cycles. So nah I hear all the stuff about the noncompliant kids but nah

These Highschoolers in these upcoming generation are STUPID as hell.
The education system is failing them and failing teachers.
Too much social media is failing them. It teaches them that they don't have to do the bare minimum in school to make it.
"Shit, what do I need school for, when I can just stream"
Real world goals are completely gone by so many of these newer generations.
And the school systems, both highschool and colleges has helped destroy that.
It has become overly cool to be distracted and not care about scholastic, and what's crazy is that Schools encourage that type of behavior with policies.
This is no exaggeration. It's scary and sad.

People in the comments are focusing on the rule but not the why! We enforce this at my school as well. Why? Because my school is, for lack of better words, like the school in Lean On Me. Allowing to leave for bathroom or water is a way for my students to start roaming the halls, skipping class, and 9 times out of 10 smoking weed and vaping. We stress for students to take care of bathroom and water needs between classes. Instead of playing in the hallways during that time, do what you need to do to be successful in the classroom. Setting that standard from jump creates a culture of accountability amongst the students. Of course there will be emergencies where you let them go, but setting a standard keeps them in line. Emergency passes reinforces the standard while at the same time teaching students what can wait and what cannot. Remember these are young teens. Give an inch take a yard. Tell one kid they can go, someone who wasn’t thinking about it now wants to leave the room for some nefarious reason. Giving kids structure is the most important thing for them at this age and the best thing in molding them to be proper adults.
