I’ve been build a new Rockbox theme for my iPod Video which is largely inspired by the old monochrome iPod interface.

I also have a tool that creates bitmap artwork file which accompanies each album I’ve loaded onto the iPod.

There’s a light and dark version that I like to toggle between day and night.

I’ve been using ChatGPT to write the code which has been working well so far. I’ve mostly been working on minor refinements to the color and hue to try and get it looking more accurate on the iPod video screen.

Hey guys I’ve got a 3rd and 4th gen iPods and I wanna restore them. Is this everything I need to make them work and use? They are both slim models btw

A few years back, I bought an "enhanced" 5th generation, 30 GB iPod (I think; Apple's website says "A1136" is one thing, but "V9M" is another) for $30, original box and all, and modded it with an iFlash Quad, a 256 GB Samsung EVO Select card, and a 3,0000 mA-h extended battery from Elite Obsolete Electronics.

The thing's been solid as hell, but I wanted some feedback on resolving a few issues:

1) Does anyone have an idea for a removable blue light filter? The brighter screen is great during the day, but an utter pain in the ass at night.

2) Does anyone know why the iPod can't play my own music? It plays 24-bit, 2,116 kb/s Apple Lossless @ 44.1 kHz just fine, but not a .wav file at the same bit rate, sample rate, and sample size.

3) Recently, the iPod has been skipping songs randomly (and more frequently). People said this happened on crappier SanDisk cards, but I've been using the aforementioned Samsung. I don't think it's R.A.M. related as I have <5,000 songs under 100 GB. Should I move the SD card to another slot on the iFlash Quad? Anything else I can check? Someone hinted that this might be due to album artwork size, but I have no idea how to check which artists/songs are using which .itc2 file with the gibberish naming convention.

4) What's the simplest way to get accurate album art to reduce manually moving files? A few years back, I did the native "Get Album Art" option and it massively fucked up my album art. I mean, 30-40% of my library is now all over the place.

I spent like an hour trying to find a screw that would fit in here, as the hole for the hold switch screw is way bigger than it should be, so none of the screws work. I finally decided to just super glue it on, and I finally found a way to keep it tight to dry!

Howdie I've been working on my ipod mini 2nd gen mod and I ended up buying an iflash and one of those red cf adapters , im putting a 128 gb Samsung evo in it

Problem im having is I put the sd card in my reader and used a partition tool to do the mbr and format it to fat32

Neither of the adapters are working like they should im on windows and no luck I even switched out the molex cable

When trying to retore on iTunes I get error code 1429

If anyone knows how to fix it please tell me

Hey guys, found a nano 6 but cant pinpoint if it is screen issue or just needs to be restored properly

I recently modded my 5th-gen iPod Video and started by tweaking a Rockbox theme. That turned into a full custom theme/OS.

There’s nothing groundbreaking here. I just wanted a modern UI without Rockbox’s clutter and quirks. Once it’s installed there’s no trace of Rockbox... a custom boot animation (which you can turn off) runs and lands on the home screen.

Happy to make this available once I get some bugs out or answer any questions!

It's my first attempt in soldering. It's so cool. And i'm so happy.

I found this old Gen 5 iPod classic (A1136) around the house and was thinking about fixing the screen, reshelling and upgrading it, but upon a closer look I decided to open it because it looked extremely beat. When I opened it, the board look a bit corroded and possible water damage. There was a good amount of dry and debris, floating around in it. I Unfortunately did not have a charger to see if it even turned on, Is it possible to fix? And if so, would it even be worth it? Or should I just find an already functioning, cleaner iPod? Any insight or advice would be welcomed.

Je viens de sortir musicOS v0.2.0-alpha, la deuxième version alpha de mon thème Rockbox inspiré par Apple Music pour iPod.
Cette mise à jour se concentre principalement sur le raffinement de l'interface existante et sur l'ajout de certaines fonctionnalités que vous avez suggérées après la première alpha.

Quoi de neuf dans v0.2.0-alpha :

• Support expérimental CJK : support initial pour les métadonnées en chinois, japonais et coréen. J'ai également changé le thème pour Sunghyun Sans, ce qui donne à musicOS un support de caractères beaucoup plus large tout en gardant le look arrondi que je voulais.

• Écran d'accueil amélioré : sélection de menu plus claire utilisant la couleur d'accent de musicOS et un design épuré pour le mini lecteur.

• Artwork d'album arrondi : les couvertures d'album dans le mini lecteur de l'écran d'accueil ont désormais des coins correctement arrondis.

• Nom d'album dans Maintenant en lecture : le nom de l'album s'affiche désormais en dessous de l'artiste.

• Indicateur de Lossless dynamique : le logo Lossless n'apparaît maintenant que lorsque le fichier en cours de lecture est réellement en format lossless supporté.

• Mini lecteur simplifié : j'ai retiré les boutons Précédent/Suivant pour donner plus de place aux informations sur le morceau et rendre l'écran d'accueil plus propre.

• Diverses améliorations et corrections d'UI mineures.

Le support CJK est encore expérimental, donc si vous écoutez de la musique avec des métadonnées en chinois, japonais ou coréen, vos retours seraient particulièrement utiles !
Le thème est toujours principalement développé et testé sur un iPod Video 5ème/5.5ème génération (320×240). D'autres modèles sont encore considérés comme expérimentaux pour l'instant.

Comme toujours, c'est encore une alpha, donc il peut y avoir des bugs ou des incohérences visuelles. Je n'essaie pas d'implémenter chaque suggestion que je reçois, car je veux toujours que musicOS garde la direction épurée et minimale que j'avais initialement en tête, mais les retours sur la première alpha ont été incroyablement utiles.
v0.2.0-alpha est maintenant disponible sur GitHub.

Not trying to be mean to those putting these together... but I have seen what feels like a dozen today

So, i've tried to flashmod my ipod mini via cf to sd adapter and micro sd to sd adapter. But there's a problem: when i turn it on, there's folder icon, and when i connect it to my mac, it's not showing there but it stuck on "do not disconnect" and that's all. I don't have an opportunity to use iflash adapter because nobody sells it in my country. What should i do? My card is formatted in fat32 mbr. I've checked my cf to sd adapter, it works in my ipod video. What should I do? Maybe, i should use another sd card? Is it important?

Does anyone do an exchange of a broken iPod for a modded, repaired or upgraded one ?

I have two 160gb

They haven’t been used for a few years - one is ok, holds a charge and I just added my music library to it and all is well.

The other one is of last available that were in Currys the day Apple announced the end of iPods. It was in use, has music on it but won’t hold a charge.

This one I’d like to exchange or part ex for something.

I am about to finish those two builds:

1) 5.5th gen thick back
- will recieve iflash quad i already have and 1 TB
- needs new hold switch
- will hold entire library and be forever married to apple hifi speaker
- needs new battery. I ordered a "thick" 3800mah "405570" with 62 x 50 x 5mm dimension

--> Is there any better/larger option for batteries in a thick 5th gen? As far as I am concerned, a thick back just allows for any battery really.

2) 6th gen classic thin
- will recieve aliexpress dual micro sd adapter
- needs new battery.

-> which battery should i choose?
After checking various posts, the "2000mah square" one is a safe bet, but I would like to max out the capacity here. I also heard about the 3000mah "385872" one fitting, as long as it is exactly 3.6mm thin. Oddly enough, the only batteries I see online that are 3.6mm thin, are taller "thick back" ones covering 81mm in height and 54 in width, where as the "thin" ones are 79 x 49 x 3.8mm... I am confused. Does the height acttually matter, since the plates only deviate in thickness?

-> Are the 3800mah "thin" LG batteries still a thing? If so, which dimensions would a thick back take? Because we are now living in an era, where the numbers (e.g. 385872) are not the actual dimension values anymore...which - again - leaves me confused.

Recently got a 6 gen last week, I’m loving it so much! Feels good to be back😊

Now everybody here knows for a fact that our modding community and the underlying market changed a lot within the last few years. Starting early on, where no (internal) bluetooth mods were yet created, nor sold as a finished solution (thanks moonlit <3), prices for headphone jacks, backplates, front plates, batteries and what not were really really customer friendly on AliX.

Nowadays, prices keep climbing up, tariffs hit us and a good portion of spare parts can not be obtained anymore as easily as they once were. So - speaking of which:

Could someone please DM me a trusty source that still sells engraved backplates on said market platform? I have to admit i kept postponing the purchase and now they have essentially been wiped of the regular platforms and I don't want to finish my (postponed) pods and projects with clean backplates....that just feels wrong.

Hi! I bought an iPod Mini 2 some time ago and I’m in the process of modifying it. I already have the red compactflash adapter on it and I’m using it successfully, but it’s paired with a 256gb micro sd card and I heard that a bunch of the cheap flash adapters for iPods that don’t act closely to the stock storage cards will often have issues going with cards over 128gbs.

I’m going to reshell my iPod Mini soon and I want to fill my iPod with a bunch of audiobooks so I’m wondering if it’s worth returning the red adapter and replacing it with the iFlash adapter since the red adapter is working fine atm. Thank you!

I used to change playlist with earpods but instead of playlists it just says songs names. Is there any way to have it sayng playlists but not songs
