The attacking dogs were probably originally on their own yard as well. They're both able to leave

Yeah, but doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have left the yard.

Again. One dog is well behaved and defended the child.

Both owners are negligent and not leashing their animals.

Fair but we don't know if the yard has an invisible fence or not.

But I agree both dogs should be leashed. Even if it's only because you never know when something unexpected could happen that could spook your own well behaved dog and make them run off.
