Hehe the new neighbors have a massive Great Dane, probably not even full size yet looking at his paws, and he thinks he’s Big Tough Guard Dog and that anyone in my backyard is a Major Threat. I go out and tell him “hush up, you silly boy!” In a scolding tone and he shuts his mouth mid bark and just looks at me quizzically. Like “wait a minute, you’re not MY human, you’re not supposed to be able to do that!” But he still shuts up lol.

My neighbor used to have a dog who would resource-guard bark at me through the fence….right up until I scolded him about his bad language and rude manners and did your momma teach your it was okay to talk like that.

Bless his heart, all that bravado disappeared and the dog looked so embarrassed. He would occasionally talk trash around me after that, and a quick “language!” was usually enough to stop it.

A Great Dane once cracked my rib...completely by accident.

It was running full-tilt at me to play and was unable to stop in time. 80+ kilos of dog hit me right in the chest.

Since then, I'm had a bit of a fear of them. Not that one will hurt me on purpose, but...

Yeah, NGL I’m glad there’s 4 ft of concrete block between us lol. He could probably clear it if he really wanted to but I definitely get the impression he’s a bit of a wuss behind that big bark. My dog stands up on the wall and tries to sniff him while he’s barking in her face, but when that doesn’t deter her he turns and leaves with an air of “I’m not scared I’m just tired of barking now I swear.” She’s like a third his size.
